I thought this was a well handled episode, the little girl did an amazing job with the role and how she played off the SVU detectives, too cute her reading each one's mood and asking for hugs. I think my favorite scene though had to be Finn and Lake in the waiting room and the woman thinking they were a gay couple looking to adopt, when Lake put his hand on Finn's ...that made the scene.

Oh that was so funny! Finn was like "huh?" but Lake took it really well and played a long. LOL I loved what the woman said though about the situation and how she was very upbeat and whatnot. Too cute. I'm really liking Lake on this season and am glad he's still around. Plus he's super cute.
I thought this was a very well done episode too. Did anyone else notice at the end when the dad was dragging the girl to the elevator that his voice got lower? Didn't the girl say the person's voice was low? I still thought something was up with that guy (the dad) and totally didn't trust him at all. He was too mean and I do question his love for the girl. I thought she was so sweet as well and a good sport.

I thought it was cute about the grilled cheese and if she asked if that was a lie or not. I loved the scene's with Eliot and Casey with the girl. They did great.

Not much of everyone else though tonight. Next week's episode looks very good. The guy who plays the torture woman's lawyer was on "Studio 60" and I liked him on there so I'm sure he's going to do a good job on the next show. I'm loving this season so far!

Love the eppisode. I am a little dissapointed that ther was no O/P interaction but I can't always get was I want.
The little girl was just incredible. She did an amazing job. I think the guest stars are making the show. Nixon (even though I wasn't thrilled with the eppisode) and this girl were perfect. I wasn't thrilled with Mellissa Joan Hart's performance last week but I think that it's just the way her face moves that I don't like.
Fin and Lake in the waiting room KILLED me I was RONTFLMAO uncontrollably.
Two great eppisodes in a row. The season seems to be building up into a really great one.

Could someone please tell me what happened at the end of the show? My DVR changed channels and I couldn't go back to see what happened. I lost all of the recording. The last part I saw was when the little girl was answering the 3 questions. I didn't hear the last question or the answer.

Something about her dad getting money? Please help, I'm so sad I missed the end. Thanks!!:)

Oh man, this is the SVU I know and love. This episode was awesome. I am so happy with this episode, I don't know how to describe it.
I liked all of the interaction, they really got almost everyone involved. And the part with Fin and Lake in the waiting room, I seriously almost died laughing. The little girl was awesome, and I loved the way everybody reacted to her. "Hi I'm Casey Novak" "Pretty". HAHA. "Can I have a hug?" Petrovsky: "No....maybe later." Oh man, this episode was so good. I was scrared for SVU for awhile, but this episode has my hopes up again for the show.
And is it just me, or could that little girl totally be related to Munch? I thought they looked a lot alike.

Anyone notice who the actress was playing the doctor? She looks very familiar. Is this doctor a recurring SVU character?

Yes, we have seen the doctor before. She was in Shaken, Head and Starved.

I thought it was a great eppi. The little girl was great. I worked with children with similar disabilities and you can fall in love with them so quick, and she was right on point.
When Lake put his hand on Fin's leg I laughed so hard, that was sooo funny.
I fell they purposly did not do any O/P scenes, how they love to keep us guessing.
Next weeks episode looks good too.

Loved this episode. I am very into the new formula for this season. Things I approve of that has made this season the best one for a few years:
A return to humor: This has been lacking for a while
All of the detectives working together on cases
The station has stopped looking like a depressing tomb
I miss Munch, but like the addition of Lake
Episodes based mostly on cases and not personal crisis
Elliot back with his family: This is more in line with the original formula and he is less completely emo and depressed now. He is back in his element and seems happier and more well balanced (for him).
I also liked seeing Porter and as more than just a love interest for Liv. I am not at all against it going there, but I liked that we got to see a little more of them before it does.
We have had some great guest stars so far.
Thumbs up to the writers and producers of SVU!!!

It was okay.
I keep noticing that Munch uses the smart board they have there and he tends to do all the background research for them. I haven't seen anyone else use it besides him. That's fine and dandy, but the last time I checked you had to take a comprehensive exam to become a detective and it tested you on various areas, such as gathering information and what places to pursue to gather this information. I know Benson and Stabler can do the same research Munch does. I mean, they are detectives and gathering clues is just the same as gathering research right? Only you just have to read it. Maybe they don't like taking the time to read research and pick out information to help with their investigation. Detective work isn't all about the street, it's about doing the paper research too.
And they always offer classes to keep you up-to-date on new procedures and better methods to handle an invesitgation. So, can we please give Munch some real work? Like putting him back out onto the street? Some sergeants still work the street with their fellow detectives and perhaps Elliot would knock off the attitude he has with Munch if Munch did that (his attitude in the premiere towards Munch was very deploring and he would not have done that in front of Cragen. That much is certain). I could do Munch's job for a living. Heck, I could do this for a living at school when it comes to research papers and be making more moolah than he does on a weekly basis.
Munch doing the same role over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over is getting redundant and I would like to see some action. He's a 1-D character, no thanks to the writers. In Homicide, he was 4-D. What the heck happened here?!!!
I like how we are getting back into the ensemble episodes, but this one was ok. There have been better ones in the past and the use of the feds buttin' in has been overdone, especially last season.
It was a good start, but I think the episode could've been better. At least there was hardly any personal life in this one. Thank you for sparing me the Guiding Light garbage writers.

This one was definitely better than the last three. The episode followed one case and they didn't try to stuff too much into it. We got the banter back in the squad room and some comic relief. The scene in the waiting room was priceless, and the judge not completely rejecting the idea of a hug maybe later.
But there are some questions.
Why was Dean Porter the FBI agent in this case? He said in Florida he was working on a task force to capture fugitive sex offenders. When did he go back to working for the Domestic Terrorism unit? It is possible the task force was disbanded. They usually are short-lived. But that could have been mentioned.
As long as we are on the subject of Dean Porter, why was he so hostile to Elliot? I know the FBI and the NYPD have had their territorial fights. But why call Elliot a ******* for trying to find out who attacked Corrine Nickelson? If the FBI is using Ben Nickelson for bait, wouldn't it make sense to keep tabs on his family? If somebody wanted to get secrets form him and didn't have the cash to buy them, wouldn't snatching his wife or child be a way to get him to give something up?
Corrine had her amniocentesis test done too late for an abortion? And that was the basis of her lawsuit? Genetic testing is usually done at 14-16 weeks into the pregnancy and the results take about two weeks. New York allows abortion by choice until the 24th week. There is an amniocentesis test that establishes maturity of the fetus that is sometimes done. But it tests different things and the results are back in hours, not days. So why bother to do the genetic testing after 24 weeks, unless there is an indication that something is wrong that you didn't know about before? This makes no sense.
Elliot's attitude about testing doesn't surprise me. In his personal life, he has the bad habit of hoping that unpleasant things will go away if he ignores the possibilities. But I am surprised that Kathy agreed to not having the test done. She
has always seemed more level headed than Elliot, especially about the kids. Even if terminating the pregnancy isn't an option, knowing about a problem early will give you more time to prepare for it.
Why was the swearability hearing in a courtroom instead of the judge's chambers? The only people required are the judge, the witness, the lawyers and a court reporter. A certain amount of privacy is the norm, especially when a child is involved.
The last scene bothered me on a number of levels. While I won't nominate Ben Nickelson for Father of the Year, before that scene he seemed truly concerned about the welfare of his daughter. To tear her out of her mother's arms like that didn't fit. He had to know that would be traumatic for her. Yes, he's a selfish creep but I don't see him knowingly hurting her like that. It certainly wouldn't look good if there's a custody hearing.
Similarly, leaving his injured wife at the hospital like he did is going to make her so sympathetic to a judge in any divorce proceedings. Even if she did have an affair, he looks like the bad guy. What would be the point in that?
And what was Elliot thinking about at the end? There are so many choices. Was he thinking about what was going to happen to Katie? Was he thinking about Ben as the bad father? Or the bad husband? Or as a criminal? Or was he thinking about his home situation? What would happen the reconciliation between Kathy and him if the baby isn't healthy and whole? Or all of the above?

I thought that this episode was great. They hit the serious parts well, but the humor was refreshing. I really thought that someone calling Finn/Lake gay was funny and I give Lake major props for rolling with it. Even though, Finn was a second from hitting him. Also, Judge Petrovsky with Katie at the hearing was funny. We always see her tough on the bench and it was nice to see that she has a warm and fuzzy side. Katie was a great character and the girl who played her was awesome. The only thing that got to me, but did not harm the show, was the husband/ FBI guy. He was a complete jerk. What was not great for the series, was the detectives got tunnel vision during the investigation just like the detectives who did the case where Darius, Ken Randell's half brother, killed the woman and her baby. In that case, the detectives assumed it was the husband, but it really wasn't. Stabler and Finn need to learn from the past. Overall, it was super and worth watching over and over again.

Was Richard Short (Eric Winton from Avatar) in this ep? It says on IMDB he was meant to be but from what i've read i can't imagine how he would fit in...
I wish they could find a way to make him a regular cast member!

I just saw this episode for the first time, and I loved it, for all the reasons you mentioned. And, of course, I too was busting up at the part where the woman thought Lake and Fin were a gay couple looking to adopt a child. You could see that Lake thought it was hilarious and wanted to play along, while Fin looked like he couldn't believe anyone could even think that of him. Great moment. I like that Lake is finding a niche within the department, AND we still get to see good bits with Munch (like when he tells the little girl she can't have a hug and shouldn't be talking to strangers... which of course sets up a funny bit for Fin when she asks him for a hug). I was a little put off by the ending (how the father is wrenching his screaming daughter away from her mother... I mean, not only was it unnecessarily and a bit uncharacteristically cruel, but how is it immediately decided that he has custody and can take her away from her mom like that?) but overall, I'd say it was an excellent episode.

Saw this episode last night with my parents. I really liked it, as others have stated, this is a really well done episode. Great to see Munch in the episode, I hope that Munch can be placed in future episodes, he is a great character and the actor who portrays him does a really great job. The girl was cute. The scene where it was perceived that Fin and Lake was gay was really funny. The ending though was not good in my opinion, awful how the father didn't take the time to explain to his disabled daughter why she couldn't stay with her mother and seeing the father forcibly take her away from the mother who was suffering from retrograde amnesia which is tough because I had retrograde amnesia and it is tough to recover from it. The ending could've been done better.
