That was a GREAT song and you can find it at the bottom of this page at ER Headquarters.
Platnium
actually it was Abby who had the baby, but anywho...

The song is called Slow Motion by David Gray

They picked the perfect song. It was the first time I had heard it, and I immediately got on the internet trying to find the song...OMG!! I cried like a baby and I'm not a crier!! Great job ER!!

Ugh. Did not like it. For a minute there my family thought that I had something else on....not hearing the familiar ER theme song.

I guess it will take some getting used to.
erjunkie
I didn't like it. I guess I'm just use to hearing the original theme music but I really hope they bring it back.
lvcgrad2005
I didn't like it and I really was quite upset about it. It sounded like the music came from a soap opera. The original ER theme is the one that fits the show well. I hope they bring the old theme song back.
receptionist
I thought it was ok to have a change... but I don't know if I liked the song itself. The intro was ok visually... but the song was just... abrupt.
hp_sephora
Nay ~ but since it was so brief to get everything in, it could just be a one time thing.

As a passionate ER fan I HAD to come here today to express my dismay at the astonishing changes in the show.

And NOT just the opening title song.

That was the first indication of the changes to come.

The other was the way the show was shot.

I think the reason ER has lasted so many years and thru so many cast changes is because depsite those things there have been two mainstays in the shows actual production qualities.

Both of which I noticed were missing in recent episodes.

The first of course being the music in the opening sequence. Something that for some reason I have always found comforting despite the chaos that the shows moniker predicts.

The more surprising element in the new episodes was the startling change in the quality of the actual filming. Since the shows inception there has always been some sort of filter used the subdued the colors and made the show seem more realistic...GRITTIER

I noticed the change last night and HATE both the opening music and the new filming process. That gritty quality is totally lost.

It seemed so phoney, not the ER I have watched since the first season. Everything seemed so hoakey.

BRING BACK THE MUSIC...BRING BACK THE GRIT

I would love to know what the song was that played during Jerry's and Abby's surgeries. Can anyone answer that?
perrykent
I hope they don?t leave it like this. It would be weird to have a new theme song but i want at least a decent opening credits sequence that shows the actors, not just the "ER" logo.

The New Opening Music

There are a lot of challenges to programming and we felt that the opening titles were a little long and we wanted to take that time and use it for story, which is why this year's theme music is shorter than previous seasons.

Go to this post and say that you want the longer opening credits back!!! Otherwise we?ll never have them again!!!

English:

Hi! I'm from Quebec and I speak french, so please forgive me for my english! I'm a very big fan of ER. I have de DVD's, the CD, I'm wathcing ER in English and in French and I just want to say a thing: Before this premiere, I was recognizing the beginning of an ER episode by the original TV THeme! I very don't like the new theme! Why do they change something that was working! Ok, maybe they can make it shorter, but don't change all the music please! Anyway, I really hope they will bring back the original theme or a lot of fans will be sad! To see other fans critical on the new theme, go see: http://blogs.nbcuni.com/er/2006/09/the_new...ic.php#comments

Fran?ais:

Bonjour!

I loved the song that was played at approx. 25-30 min. into the show, it was a male vocalist. Does anyone know wher to get a list of the music used on each episode?

Did you ever find out what the song was?

i think its Open your eyes from Snow Patrol.i hope dat helps. smile.gif

I didn't like it at all... the ER theme is a classic and after using it for 12 years it seems crazy to get rid of it
AdamBN
I agree, this is one thing that should NOT be changed. The theme is crucial to the show's identity!

AdamBN
ginkat
It's going to take some getting used to....thats for sure.
Armin
I live in Sweden and we are not on the same episode , we are far away ... on season 12. Can you send me the themesong so I can listen?
mkc217
i read somewhere that they changed the intro so they would have more time for the storyline-which, i think is a great idea, BUT it would be nice if they could edit (or use snip-its) the original theme song to fit into the new, shorter style.
Mirandasuzanne
I came running in from the kitchen ready to strangle my new roommate b/c the ONLY thing allowed on my TV from 9-10 on Thursday nights is ER and I just DARE you to try to change the channel...

Guess what... just new music. Yeah. I don't like it. You can change up the video footage all you want but i'd better be able to HEAR my ER from clear across the house!!! That'd be like changing the Friends theme song... you just can't go there.
CTAF
Anyone know who sang that song at the end of the episode? Thank you.
ergal84
The song is "O-o-h Child" by the Five Stairsteps. I am not sure who sang it at the end...I don't believe it was the original singers. But if someone knows I would love to find out as well.

Thanks
kilkaris
Was it the "O-o-h Child" cover by Beth Orton?
impronto
the new intro/music is terrible. That old music used to set me in the mood; get me pumped for the episode. Like near the end, where someone would go through the door and that big musical note played, like Eriq Lasalle did and Laura Innes. That was awesome. I mean, that music and intro was there for 12 years. Why change it? 15 secs from the story is not that bad. Please change it back.
lorax
I was wondering the same thing. It sounded like Beth Orton, but I've not been able to confirm it yet.
ERscrub
Dear NBC, can you just bring back the traditional ER opening? Don't just look into the increased commercial time.
ERscrub
Dear NBC, can you just bring back the traditional ER opening? Don't just look into the increased commercial time. I thought you just took away to opening for once for the season premire, I can't believe you guys did that for good.
hibbleton
This season's off to a great start, but it's just not the same without the theme music. I've been a passionate and loyal fan of this show since it premiered when I was 10 and I have NEVER missed an episode. When I hear that theme music my heart pumps and I get instantly excited. When the music isn't there I don't get into the episodes as quickly as I usually do. There's just something missing without it. I understand the reasoning behind taking it out, but I don't think the people that made that decision realize just how much the theme song/opening means to the fans. It's not just an opening, it's an actual part of the show. I really hope they reconsider their decision!
manthax
miss the old theme dont like the new one
ILBELLE
tongue.gif My vote is NAY! Reasons have been given to the effect that the producers wanted to increase time for the story line?? Well ... if that is truly the reason for changing the opening credits and the ORIGINAL theme song of ER ... I have another suggestion. The theme song SHOULD NOT be changed ... it is a unique part of our watching enjoyment which is an extreme association to all things ER! If the opening credits must be shortened, so be it, but do it in a way that actually gives credit to all of the performers and the crew. If you wish to increase the time allowed to actual "story-tellling" .... then eliminate some of the darned commercials ... my husband and I turn the channel anyway during the ads and it's becoming increasingly apparent that the network is taking a commercial break approximately every six minutes. Enough is enough, folks ... quit selling out to consumerism and bring back our familiar ER theme song and opening!

Fed up in Florida!

It sounded like Beth Orton to me as well. I tried to see if there was a track listing per episode. NBC should list this info - [font=Arial]

They need to bring back the old music It is so much better and it makes all the difference. We are used to hearing the familier notes everytime that ER flashes accross our screen. please bring it back.
Leslie33
I have only one word to describe the Theme Song----blech!!!! BORING!!!! mad.gif The old theme is 10 times better, it added to the show. This one gives the show an oh hum, yeah, whatever feel.
ginkat
OK so I guess they are keeping the new theme song so that means we'll just have to get used to it. The upside is we get more ER !
macterrnin8
I just don't understand how not hearing the original theme song can make any difference to the show itself. I've been an ER fan for a long time and I can tell you that the opening music isn't why I watch. I watch because it's a great show and if changing the opening is something they had to do for extra time...its fine with me.
vbarkley
Don't like the new song. They changed the theme song on Monk, too, and all the fans hated it. The network did nothing. I really don't think they care baou the fans, only money.
dennieluuu
ER is my staple!!!!!!! Watching the opening episode, I was waiting to hear the theme music - SHOCK!!!!!! No theme song - what is this????? You can't change the theme - it's what makes the show and sets the mood!!!! I was horrified!!!!! I liked the theme song so much I bought the sheet music to play on my piano - what the heck!!!! BRING IT BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whatever the new theme music is - STINKS!!!!!!
Izzy1216
NAY!! I LOVED the old one they have had it since the begining they were STUPID to change it!

Yip

They need to bring back the theme song

I enjoy watching it each episode, it was always exciting to see, especially when the season premiere comes along and they add the new cast members in the opening credits.

I was looking forward to seeing John Stamos feature in the opening credits and see what the new look would be after seeing the new images and logos featured in last weeks season premiere.

I think maybe they should just do what happened last season on Desperate Housewives, where for a few episodes like the season premiere and season final, they played the opening credits, and during the rest of the season, they just skipped it?

All in all, bring it back please please please

LucyKnightFan

Because no matter what Lucy was a great character and hot!

Does anyone know who the singer was and what song she sang at the end of last Thursday's episode? Sounded a little like Beth Orton or Sarah Mac Laughlin but I didn't recognize the song.
splunge1
Is the new theme music the music that was at the beginning of episode 1? Who is it by?

Randy B.

It is ooh child by Beth Orton.

If you're talking about the music that starts right at the beginning, during the 'Previously On..', then no, that's not the new theme music. It's called 'Open your eyes' by Snow Patrol, and it was on the season 12 finale as well.

There is no real theme music anymore, and more of a short 15 second sound clip.
nadis
Nay. I did not like it! I'm so used to the old one that it will take probably the entire season to get used to it. I mean, the old theme identified ER. ER was born with this theme. Oh well, change is good. Plus, the new theme is good, too. It's just a little hard to give up on a theme that was on for 12 years! Hope it'll work out...
