does the janitor have a name? the closest thing to his character having a name other than janitor, is the alter-ego german Jan Itor. Why is that?

I was watching this episode (Season 5, Ep. 11 "My Buddy's Booty"), when I realized that in the scene when the Janitor makes fun of Dr. Cox because he has to pretend that they are not friends, another janitor congratulates his joke by saying "Nice one, Tom" (Or at least that's what it definitley sounds like).
So I took the clip and made a movie and put it onto Youtube; I would really appreciate other's opinions on this because I want to know if my ears are deceiving me

The Janitor's real name is Neil. Neil Flynn. Yes, in the show. Same as the actor.
There's an episode, "My Friend, the Doctor," that makes mention of how he had a small part in the fugitive, playing a transit cop.
Neil Flynn played a transit cop in the fugitive.
Hence, easy to speculate, his character's name is Neil Flynn. He's playing himself, as a Janitor. :-)

Totally logical, but just not as fun as saying he has no name but 'The Janitor'.

S'okay; but I'm fairly confident in that one. Try saying, "Niceyoutellim" all as one long word, and it'll sound more like what he said.
It's only because there is distinctly no "un" sound, as you would expect to hear in the word "one."
But hey, it's cool. Your mileage may vary.

I'm kinda torn on it. I'd love it if his name were Jan Itor, which sounds just so deliciously made up, but I like the metatextuality of it all, with him being Neil Flynn.
But, really, nobody calls anyone by their real name much of the time, with Bobbo, Turkleton, Black Doctor, Blonde Doctor, Lurch, and so on and so forth.
Personally, I'm fine with just calling him The Janitor. :-)
Your mileage, as always, may vary.

Ok, next time that episode is on, I'll have to remember to turn on the subtites and see what they say. Of course they don't pick up everything.
But, just to play devil's advocate here, even if he did say Tom, how do we not know that's his 'personality' with that group of people? Like Nigel to Todd, Hans to Doug or Efrim the dimwitted stutterer?

The guy is clearly saying "you" and not "one". It's "nice, you tell 'um".
You could get a video editor and slow down the audio.
I've noticed in Scrubs that there are often things said that aren't said clearly enough for me to understand. I often ask myself, "what did he just say?" Sometimes the show is hard to follow because of that. But, that is how people talk in real life, oftentimes.

did anybody forget that even if coxie said "tom", when does he call anybody by the name on thier drivers licence. if tom was the case, it would seem that he would call the janitor a foul name or a little girls name, which is, i guess, the same thing. anyways, if mr. Flynn does play Mr. Flynn the Janitor after the fugitive role, but gunny is his dad in that parent episode. im pretty sure, almost 63% sure, that gunny is not mr. Flynn's biological father. this, of couse, is only based off of freeze-framed DVR anaylysis. therefore, the janitor's name is still in question.

There was also another episode (only saw half of it, so I'm not sure what it was) but JD said "That's why I wanted it to be you in the fugetive. becuase even though your life didn't pan out the way you wanted it, you are what you are and you're fine with that" and I'm not sure what he was talking about, but then the janitor held his hands up like a gun and said some line that I think was from the movie Fugitive, and said "tell anyone and I'll kill ya". This would mean that if the actor who plays a security guard in the Fugitive was the same actor that plays the janitor, Scrubs is recognizing the actor and the janitor as the same person. So just look at the credits, right?
Also, the janitor has many of the hospital residents calling him different names. In one episode he had some dude thinking he was an english stutterer and called him abner.

The janitor's name should be Neil Flynn (the actor's real name). Because that's the name that would be in the credits of The Fugitive.

I think his name should be Nelson Flynn. Somewhat close to the actors name but slightly different so it wouldn't be confusing.
