Hey everyone, it has been a very tragic Wednesday in Omaha. For those that have not yet heard, a young man went into Von Maur at the Westroads Mall in Omaha, NE, shot 14 people, killing 9, himself included. The whole city is at a huge loss, and prayers would be greatly appreciated. I was not at the mall, but I know some who were. A lady that works for my mother in law, also works at Von Maur, and she saw a man die, she, like everyone else, is in shock.

If you could please inculde in your prayers, the familes, friends, employees, shoppers, everyone hit by this tradgity, and also please don't forget the family of the gunman. They are not to blame for the actions of this young man, and they may be more lost and confused than anyone else.

Thank you all! God Bless.

Glad to know you're okay, TS. We were talking about you in SC tonight. I had heard the story about the shootings on the news but didn't immediately connect it with you. So glad you weren't there. Of course, my heart goes out to those who were there and who were affected by this tragic event. Unfortunately, we can all remember too many events similar to this one. I was reminded of the serial killers we had here in The Phoenix who were driving around for a year or so, randomly shooting people who were walking down the sidewalk or riding bikes. Terrorists are not just imported. Love & Joy come to you! Pray for Peace.

Thank you, DL. That is crazy about the person in Phoenix! I hadn't heard about that!

Everyone is kinda zombie like here. You can't turn the TV on or the radio without it non stop coverage of this. People were hiding in the clothes racks, everything, it was crazy. The gunman, went into Von Maur, killed people on the 2nd and 3rd level, then went out into the mall, opened fire, went outside, came back in Von Maur, shot a customer service rep, and then himself. Very tragic.

Yeah, TS. They finally caught the two guys who were behind the random shootings. Before they caught them the shooting spree had spread from Phoenix to the area where I live. Turns out the guys had moved from Phoenix to my part of Mesa. They were living about a mile up the street from me. I don't drive, only walk and bike, so I was living in fear until those guys were caught.

My point is that no place is safe. People get shot inside, outside, and at the corner store. In school halls, shopping malls, and countless places more. "Be swift to love! Make haste to be kind!" Pray for peace.

ETA: Here's the whole quote

Life is short and we have never too much time for gladdening the hearts of those who are travelling the dark journey with us. Oh be swift to love, make haste to be kind.

The shooter is dead. His fate is in the hands of God now. Meanwhile, it's up to those of us still living to console the survivors of this tragedy and create the world where events like this don't happen anymore.

Thanks guys.

Krista, they are saying there is a lot more to it than him losing his job and girl friend. He had, obviously, a lot of mental issues, and in some notes he wrote, he wanted the attention of the media after his demise. He is getting exactly what he wanted, he is sick.
TS_TS_TS
Correction, he was a sick individual.

That is what we are getting told here on the on the local new. It sound like he didn't lived with his real family and that he felt unwanted by a lot of ppl. They stated that some friends where trying to get him to move in with them , where their mom was a nurse. I think maybe the friend knew he needed help. To bad they just did call and let someone know he had the gun. But they also stated that they didn't thing that the gun worked. I just so sad and at this time of year too.
TS_TS_TS
Hey Carol, good to 'see' you. Yes, they knew he needed help. They just said on TV that he was released as a ward of the state August of 2006, and he was in a lot of treatment programs at the time, so the state knew he wasn't stable. I can't imagine them thinking anything like this could have happened though, very sad situation.

Sasha I'm so happy you weren't there when that happened. When I saw this on the news I prayed you and your family were safe. I wish I understood why when people feel like they have to kill themselves they think they have to kill others too. My prayers for strength and comfort to everyone who is touched by this tragedy.
TS_TS_TS
Thank you so much, jellybean. I am very grateful that we were not there. It is very sad.
