When you applied for BL did you tell many people, or did you keep it as secret as possible? Some people get all their friends, family and even co-workers involved in their audition videos, so they would obviously know-- but for the rest, were you a gabber??
I told all my friends, and my immediate family. I figured that I would need them for support whether I made the show or not... and I am glad I included them.

At the time I applied, only my immediate family and my post master knew. It was embarrassing enough that I knew I qualified for the show without letting the whole world in on it.
Some friends & coworkers know now, though. I'm no longer that person who applied, so talking about it doesn't seem as personal now.

I kept mine a secret. I told my mom, dad grandma and sister. Then my sister's boyfriend knew because he and my sister came with me to auditions. But I didn't tell the rest of my family. I told three of my friends, but that was it.
I was kinda embarrassed. And I also didn't want people to get their hopes up. When I made it through several rounds of casting, my mom got SO excited. I kinda felt like a disappointment when I didn't make the show. Even though it was out of my control - I still kinda felt like I let people down. And I have a HUGE extended family, so I didn't want to have to explain it to everyone. Maybe if my family was smaller, then I would've shared. But, I didn't. Not to mention, even though my family has a gazillion people, I'm really the only "real" fat one. There's some tubbies, but not any down and dirty REAL fat people. So, I didn't feel like they would understand...

My wife was the only one who knew ... and that was only because she held the camera. I actually got rid of all my 'evidence' from making the audition video, and didn't even keep a copy for myself. When I actually got cast ... I kind of regretted that - to this day I don't have the full thing. Only a few excerpts that I had made for other things at my church and threw on the audition tape to show what I do! But I honestly didn't even think I had a chance - I was mostly applying so I would get a 'no' and not have to wonder any more if I could have made it!

The first casting call I went to - I came to this forum for advice first - but no one knew me back then. I talked to my husband - because he would have been left home alone with my son. I spoke with my parents as well - as they too would take a bigger part in caring for my son. I needed to be sure they knew what I was getting them into if I had been selected for the show. I'm VERY glad I didn't make the show that time around - as I would have had to have left the ranch to be with my husband during his battle with leukemia.
The second casting I just sent in a video - and I think at that point the whole Biggest Loser world knew I was submitting it. I was just so desperate to find a way to take my mind off of my husbands death - to start healing my heart and my soul - I was willing to do anything to get on the ranch. I have absolutely no regrets over the process. BUT- Now that I look back I realize that the ranch wouldn't have been worth the personal cost for me. My son didn't need to lose his mother for 4 months to this show so soon after losing his father.

I applied last season and last season only. I told my close family, but didn't tell my friends aside from the people I had met online. I came here a lot, and spent time in a chat room with other hopefuls. (Many of those other hopefuls are now lots of pounds down since we started RoW)
Could that online presence and need to connect with others in the process have screwed me out of a spot? Yeah, probably, if it reached the right ears. Looking back, I wouldn't have traded this past year for a spot on the show. Is that a case of hindsight being 20/20? Maybe.
But it's nice to look back with no regrets, knowing that the way things are working out are as they should be.

If being online and visible got me cut from casting, then I am thankful for that.

You could have won $250,000.00 among other prizes. You could have the first woman to win the whole thing.....you could have been a legend. You could have moved to Beverly Hills. Swimming pools and movie stars. You could have been the next Anna Nicole Smith.

I didn't have the numbers to win $250,000. To win, I would have had to lose over 124 lbs, which would bring me about to what Julie weighed (she's 5'2")... not something I want to try at 5'10".

LOL at the thought that a quarter mil can get you relocated to Beverly Hills.
And Anna Nicole Smith is dead, so I'm still thankful on all counts.

I've applied twice and I don't tell my family save my husband. I feel all the frustration of being heavy but I'm not going to quit trying to lose.
I'd love it if BL would make a show for people, especially women, with thyroid disorder, because it would be one heck of a show. Most of us "cant" lose, once we're on medication even on a proper caloric intake.
Talk about an Education!!

Hi,
So you got cast. How long after you send in your video did they inform you of it? I was just wondering.
Thanks,
