Curtis' Stats:
Status: Active
Age: 35
Height: 6'1"
Hometown: Los Angeles, CA
Relationship: Married

CURTIS' BIOGRAPHY:
Curtis is a great husband and father. He adores his 3 beautiful daughters, and wants to be around to watch them grow into beautiful women. His father died at the age of 52 due to heart failure and Curtis does not want to head down that same path. Although he was raised in a rough neighborhood as a child, his family kept him out of trouble and into books. He was Student Body President in high school and played varsity football his sophomore year. He was always a pudgy kid. Although he was hurt by fat jokes and name calling, he became competitive and used it as a tool to be successful. He will not settle and accept the fact that he is overweight. Curtis is going to change his life today.

These college sweethearts have packed on the pounds since they've been together. Curtis is definitely the more sensitive one of the two, while Mallory is the rock of the relationship. As close as their relationship is, they admit to ignoring the real problem…their weight. Curtis and Mallory realize they have been ignorant about obesity throughout their marriage and with 3 daughters this lifestyle must change.

Mallory's Stats:
Status: Active
Age: 36
Height: 5'6"
Hometown: Los Angeles, CA
Relationship: Married

MALLORY'S BIOGRAPHY:
Mallory is the head of the household. She is a no nonsense kind of woman who tells it like it is. She grew up in a house where fast food was not an option. Her mom cooked dinner and eating out was few and far between. Once she started dating Curtis, it was fast food galore. Mallory is a leader. She will be a force to be reckoned with in a competitive setting.

Dorky old friend of Mallory says GO BROWN TEAM! Just thought I'd give this thread a bump. smile.gif

I've just gotten caught up with last weeks show and this weeks.. Sad to see them leave so early. But I do understand how the other teams may have felt that they had a built in support system whereas the divorced couple would likely flounder if sent home. (though that would have been on them!)..

I've really liked this couple and the way they've worked together! They seem to be devoted parents and doing this totally for the right reasons.. They seem like a great family and all of the other teams seem to give great respect to them!

I wasn't surprised to see their update and that they are indeed doing great at home. That team spirit they had sure would be a wonderful asset whether at the ranch or home or as a family.

Kudos to them!

He looked awesome and so did she. They are going to be awesome at the finale.

They were so classy when they left....I really loved Curtis! They are going to do great (obviously from the After pics they are well on their way)! It sucks that anyone had to go home; hated to see them go.

OK, I loved Curtis and Mallory...but at the end she stated she was 184 lbs (which is really cool because she's lost), but then she also claimed that she is a size 9?????????? There is no way in hell, unless she is all upper body. I'm 143 and I am a size 9. That's 40 lbs difference! She's not tall either, so that argument doesn't fly. Just having a hard time understanding. Why state something that people are going to call B.S. on?

That being said, I thought they were very classy people and hated to see them go. I know they'll do well though and can't wait to see them at the finale.

Well... I think back to when I was a size 18 and would force myself into a size 14. I could do it and wear them all day but it wasn't that comfortable and I always had a baggy top to try and hide the overhang. To get them on, I remember lying on my bed to help my stomach sink in and then I'd suck in too and hoist my butt up and pull the jeans closed. I'm 5' 5" and I weighed was around 220 lbs at the time so... I can see her being able to get into them but not wearing them comfortably. I also remember that the seams of my jeans were stretched and it was always easier to get into them if they weren't just washed.

I have no clue how tall she is, so that size might be possible if she's pushing 6 foot. laugh.gif

Actually size 9 is a juniors size, it is not an actual woman's size, and women of a certain age should not be shopping in the juniors department! Well, they can if they want, but it's just ridiculous seeing 45 year old women pawing through the rack of hot pink polka dot and skull halter tops.

Anyway, a size 9 is really just a size 10 with less hip room because the pants are made for girls who don't have hips yet. Just like juniors tops are more of a square cut because girls who haven't hit their teens yet don't need the chest room. That's why women shouldn't shop in those departments because they tend to spill out of the clothes in all the wrong places, while the women's department offers stylish clothes for anyone who is bigger than an A cup.

I wish the show would focus more on inches lost because a person doing the kind of workouts they are doing are building muscle, which takes up a lot less space than fat. You could have 2 people who weigh the same amount (one who exercises/weight trains and one who is sedentary) but the person who weight trains is going to appear leaner than the sendentary person.
rnner66
According to the Biggest Loser website, she is 5'6". I could see if she was 6'0 maybe fitting a size 9, but she's not. Which is why I questioned it in the first place.

You're right. Also, it would be interesting to learn more about subcutaneous and visceral fat too. I'm sure losing more of one of these would also contribute to what inches are measured since subcuatneous is the fat just under the skin and visceral is the fat around the organs (correct me if I'm wrong).

You are so right. I don't know about the rest of you, but when I started working out with weights, my body changed even though the scale didn't move much. I was getting compliments after 3 weeks on how much more lean my legs looked in pants! If you don't think that's possible, put yourself on a program of doing leg lunges and squats (google and look up the moves if you are unsure of form) and do them consistently 3 times a week and see what I mean.

It also depends on who makes it - as we all know, depending on your designer (okay, for me "designers" hail from Target and Wal-Mart a lot), you can range up and down in size. I tend to like the designers that size up and make me feel skinnier!

You could definitely tell in her picture her body was changing, so I don't think it's that off.

Oh, wow, 5'6 is a little short. Maybe she's laying down and using a hanger to pull the zipper up like they did in the 70's. She wouldn't be lying, technically she'd be wearing a size 9. laugh.gif

I wear a size 10 right now and I'm 5'4, 148 pounds, and I've also been working out steadily for a year for at least an hour to two hours, five days a week. It also depends on the brand, some of my pants are size 12, and some are size 10, and they both fit the same. But I say size 10, because I like the way it sounds. tongue.gif

I know muscle weighs more than fat, and all, but I'm willing to bet she is probably a genuine size 14 or 16. I could squeeze into 10's when I was 14, and even could have probably worn them all day without passing out, but it wouldn't be my genuine size, and nothing makes you look bigger than trying to squeeze into a smaller size when your body just isn't ready.

Still, if she's a 14/16, that's still something to be proud of after where she was before.

I hated to see them go, they were one of my favorite teams. Ahh, who am I kidding...I LOVE THEM ALL! I can't wait to see them at the finale. Keep strong, brown team!! The viewers are rooting for ya!
slw
I don't see why she would make it up. I know that the length of your legs and the way the jeans are cut can play a big role in what size you wear.
slw
I hated to see them knocked out of the competetion so early, but I was happy to see they went home and kept working hard.

Ok, the difference between you and Mallory is that you state that you have A LOT of muscle. She doesn't, not yet. I'm still doubting her statement.

I don't doubt her statement, I just think she did a little squeezing to get into a size 9. I don't think it's her genuine size, but the fact that she can get them zipped and buttoned is a great accomplishment. smile.gif

Actually, muscle and fat weight the same. 1 lb of muscle will weigh the same as 1 lb of fat...the 1 lb of muscle will just take up less space than the 1 lb of fat. But you're right, she does look good since leaving the show.

One pound of anything weighs the same as one pound of anything else. That's not what is meant by that statement.

One pound of cotton weighs the same as one pound of lead, but the cotton takes up way more room. Everybody knows cotton weighs less than lead, but of course one pound of cotton weighs the same as one pound of lead. Nobody is going to disagree when somebody says that cotton weighs less than lead, are they? I don't understand why people can't figure out what is meant by the statement "muscle weighs more than fat" when it is obvious that one pound of anything weighs the same as one pound of anything else. That's not the issue.

Cotton = fat
lead = muscle

Just wanted to make sure everyone understood...I hear people saying that all the time "muscle weighs more than fat", and really, that's not the case. Just wanted to clarify.

Thanks BrookeAnn, that's exactly what I meant. Muscle does weight more than fat if you compare it by mass. Just like a pound of feathers and a pound of bricks both weigh a pound, but a brick weights more than a brick sized feather. Or the lead and cotton as you pointed out.

could it be her intention to gain

I'm glad I'm not the only one whose mouth dropped when Mallory said she weighed 184 (at 5'6" no less) and was getting into a size 9! Also, I loved them as a couple and was sad to see that the only measure that the staff is worried about is weight. I too agree that more should be measured before they are booted off. Instead of a vote as to who gets sent home from the bottom two, they should measure them or use BMI numbers. Mallory could have gained muscle and lost inches.

I am 5'8" and weigh 167 and am still having trouble getting into some of my size 12 clothes, even 14 sometimes. The only time I even came close to a 9 was when I got down to 135 and was able to wear a 10 (comfortably).

I've seen this same type of "fuzzy" information in magazines that show before and after pics and information for women who have lost weight. I wish they would just be proud of what they lost and how they feel and didn't feel they had to lie about the real size numbers.

It really does depend on on body type and how you carry your weight, because I'm only 5'4 and I weigh 148, and half the pants in my closet are a size 10 (which is a woman's size 9, size 9 is not a lower waist size, it is a juniors size, and the odd numbers are in place so people can know the difference between the departments). When I weigh 135 I slip comfortably into size 8, with a few size 6's.

My driver's license says I weigh 160.......... rolling.gif
We've all done it one time or another.

Does anyone know if they have a myspace? I would love to catch up with them.

Wow Curtis and Mallory looked great.
I bet those size 9's are too small now.

Didn't they look amazing? I was very proud of their progress, they did a fantastic job. smile.gif
