POLITICAL ANIMAL

01-30-2008 10:00PM

A TRIPLE HOMICIDE THOUGHT TO BE A LOVERS’ QUARREL TURNS OUT TO BE THE WORK OF A CAREER CON ARTIST. When three roommates are found dead in their apartment Detectives Ed Green (Jesse L. Green) and Cyrus Lupo’s (Jeremy Sisto) initial examination of the crime scene suggests a murder-suicide amongst jealous lovers. This notion is quickly dismissed when the detectives discover one of the victims, Todd Stewart (guest star Jonathan Sale) an environmental attorney, had a closeted relationship with a prominent political figure. After the politician’s fingerprints don’t match the prints on the murder weapon the investigation shifts focus to Victor Vargas, a political fundraiser who gave the detectives their first lead. When Vargas’ address turns out to be bogus and then a little background research uncovers a past of illegal activities including fraud, the detectives realize they’ve got their guy. But no one is prepared for the lengths to which Vargas will go and who among his political allies he will turn on to keep his freedom. Also starring: Sam Waterston, S. Epatha Merkerson, Linus Roache and Alana De La Garza.

I love the promo for this one. Never thought they'd approach something like the Larry Craig scandal.

Hello everybody.
I believe that with all the movements in the cast the show has really taken a second wind. I feel that it can go for many more seasons than expected. Sam has polished to perfection the transition from a relentless ADA to a DA that is truly cool, calm and collected. Congratulations to the writers and obviously Mr. Wolf for adhering to his vision of the best show on TV!

I agree the new changes has made a big differents in the show, I love all of the new cast, and I am glad that so far they are not over doing it with the "love interest - with Jesse and the women" so far so good rolleyes.gif

While I liked the plot and the writing in general, there were three pieces of dialogue that I found offensive and out of place:
"I love a woman in a pantsuit"
"Played smear the queer with an innocent man"
"...and immigration"

Really? Woman in politics = manly? Hispanic = Immigration problems? "Smear the Queer"? These pieces added nothing to the overall episode. I recognize the recent trend in L&O towards 'topical' episodes (tonight's was clearly a reference to Larry Craig, for example) but this need not degenerate into commentary that detracts from, rather than contributing to, the national dialogue about such issues. These pieces of dialogue were dropped into the conversation with no discussion, and seemed out of character to the actors. Playing on stereotypes is derivative and offensive. Fostering discussion around these issues is what I expect from your franchise--in this you failed.

Of course they would. If the person is a Conservative they are fair game. This is because the show's Leftist writers think all Conservatives are Lying, Hypocritical SOBs! Now if you think they will do one where they go after a Liberal Icon who pays $5000 per Call Girl; Dream on!!

They will do an episode about it, count on it. However, most likely they will wait a little longer and see if anything else pops up.

I'm probably the last to know but I just noticed that Jeremy's mother, Reedy Gibbs appeared in L &O this past season. She had a guest appearance on Political Animal as Todd's assistant. He favors his father mostly but you can see his mother's genes, too. If you have it recorded check her out. It's nice to see they are close enough to work together and not want to scream at each other. grin!
