This is my first post - I think I hit the wrong button, so I apologize if it posts incorrectly (it looks like I'm trying to take credit for Queenfish's post, which I'm not).
Anyway, yes, you must send the tape anyway. I also sent mine in November, have submitted online for the New York auditions a few times and although I haven't heard from them, still hope to although am not sure whether I would have heard something by now or not.
I want to add my 2 cents worth, however. Whereas I agree the stakes are high for anyone who goes to the trouble to audition (tape or live) for this show, and that nobody likes rejection, it is the nature of the beast. I've been kicking around this business as a singer/producer for close to 30 yrs (not TV granted, but NYC clubs and stage) and the way to deal with the wait is not to wait by the phone on pins and needles by treating any one show as the end-all-or-be-all to a career. Instead what helps is to get from one audition to the next and in between auditions work some more on the craft. Then somewhere in between you will land something. It may not be stardom right away, but I just feel that the real reward is discovery and process of creating and refining the skill. My tape was very good and professionally made, etc. but that doesn't mean they are even looking for my "type" or particular talent, demographic or whatever. As we all know, also, they have to choose a certain number of no-talents to counter those who do have it. If I'm not chosen, I simply have a new demo now I can use for other purposes and can audition again next year, if the show's still around and if I so choose. And if it's not, trust me, there'll be another one. I certainly didn't sit around and wait at the phone but was out auditioning for other things, a couple for which I was called back, planning a new club act, etc.
Anyway, I didn't mean to go on, but to share how I keep things in perspective because I think I'm reading about a lot of anxiety on here. This was actually meant to be tagged to another post on another of the boards, but I accidentally hit the wrong button and got so confused I went ahead and put it here.
Send the tape in regardless of anything anyone else said. By the way, Queenfish, I was born and raised in the Missouri bootheel as well.
oh yeah??? where from??? I am from Caruthersville. Where are you now? Do I know you?? (I am 43 yrs old). The bootheel ain't big ya know. lol Hey, i like what you said. I said basically the same thing to some of the younger auditioners on another thread. I have, over the years, learned to really enjoy my craft. I find the most enjoyment in my craft when I take a song that I or someone else has written and I get the opportunity to sing it, record it , all my way, and then the writer pitches it to the big names. I really really enjoy what I do. anyway, looking forward to hearing from you again.
