This is a link to my daughter video of her performing the national anthem. She wants to audition with the song "My Heart Will Go On".

From the things that I read so far I am not really sure whether I want to allow my 7 year old to audition. I am really protective of her and I would rather keep her tallent at home then have her crushed by a Judge. She really wants to do this. What do you think. Please share your experiences.

Each child is different. Some can handle it and some need to wait until they are more mature. Another problem is, sometimes , actually many times, the parents are not able to handle it. She needs to know that it should always be fun and you need to make sure she really wants to do this. If you are thinking that your child might even pursue a career in the entertainment field, just help her develop her talents and be a support system for her. And you need to take some classes for business purposes, so that she won't be exploited. Only you know you and your child. My best advice is to really think about it.

I am pretty experienced in business and contracts so I know she wont get exploited. My biggest concern is not to get her hopes crushed. Its ok if she does not get through the first round or doesn't get in at all. She has had her minutes of faim and minutes of criticism. The only thing that she has never had to face is rude criticizm.

I tried to view her video but it wouldn't load. I would love to hear her sing. Does she have a myspace page? As far as rude criticism from what I know everyone so far has not complained about having a rude judge during the initial auditions. The only thing you need to be careful of is if she makes it in front of the celebrity judges. Now I don't want to say his name but lets just say last year he was very harsh on children and it was on T.V. and I remember Sharon Osbourne was furious with him. That would be my only concern. Good luck and I hope the youtube link works for me cause I would love to hear her sing. smile.gif

My son just turned 9 and he auditioned. We're both a bit disappointed that he didn't make it through, but it was still a cool experience. I think your daughter will be fine with the audition judges. They were exceptionally complimentary and courteous. I totally agree with "nocomment" that the only problem with harsh judgment would be if she makes it on the show and the celebrity judges.

Best of luck and I'll watch her YouTube!

No , the video it's not working !
I would suggest to look for some kids on you tube her age 7-9 y.o. and see how they perform.
Some of them are really amazing ......
If your kid is that good go for it.If not keep working and go next year .

I was not able to see her video .

My 9 year old will be auditioning soon. She really wants to do this. She has had the good fortune to sing often around our area. We have talked about this being different than anything else she has done and we are in agreement that this will be more for the experience than for the end result. She will be ok when the day is done and nothing has happened especially if she has done her best. And she is looking forward to having a ball (and a day off of school!)
Check her out on Youtube. Search "Shealeigh"
Thanks and good luck

My 13 year old daughter auditioned in Nashville, and just being there was a wonderful experience for her! We have not heard a word, but have not given up hope yet.

She is getting ready to perform in The Sound of Music as Brigitta on March 8-9th, and just auditioned for Destination Broadway in NYC and made it!! This means that she will be going to NYC for an intensive week of Broadway-style training this summer. America's Got Talent is just one venue for demonstrating talent....I believe that if given enough opportunities to show what you've got, eventually something will come to fruition if it was meant to be! Keeping her busy has helped keep her mind off of waiting for that phone call, but she still asks every day if I received an email or a phone call, and nothing yet.... sigh.gif
If you're interested, you can see a few of her performances here: http://entertainment.webshots.com/album/56...t=entertainment .........although her AGT audition song was not one of these. What do you think?

WickedKitty,

I watched your daughter's video and I thought she was amazing!! I think if she wants to audition it would be a great experience for her. I have been auditioning since I was 10 or 11 years old (30 now) and each experience just made me work that much harder. I got my first standing ovation when I was in the 4th grade at a school choir concert and I have been hooked ever since. I have won local competitions and been in a few musicals since then. I am now a Music and Audio Engineering Major at my local junior college.

All these years I watched the kids on Star Search and now on American Idol and AGT and I always say the same thing. . . "I can do that!!" That is what she is saying to herself and she can!! I agree with the other posters . . .just be there for her...cheering her on to her next audition and getting as much local exposure as you can. Call your local sports teams and enquire about how to audition to sing the National Anthem at a local game. Video tape them and post them on YouTube. You will not only get her World Wide exposure but some great constructive critisim. (as I am sure you know) School choir will help her to control her chest to head voice transitions and mold that amazing raw talent.

If she is going to audition I would try something a little easier than "My Heart Will Go On" unless she can sing the (you know what) out of it!! I have been singing for about 20 years and I would not audition with that song. It is a very big song. Please don't take that the wrong way, that is just a suggestion. That song scares the pants off of me!! blink.gif

I am comforted to hear that the people associated with the audition process are kind and helpful. That always makes the experience so much more enjoyable.

Where is she auditioning? I will be auditioning in Dallas this weekend (03/02)!! Best of Luck to her!!

I have some videos on YouTube as well. I would love your opinion! Thanks in advance.

My son is 12 and is definitely going to try. I really won't worry too much about how one of the judges may be less than sensitive right now. The experience in getting to that point will be great if he gets that far. I think the quality of singers (young and old) competing to make it to the later stages will make this a very tough competition for singers... My son (Ricky) can be heard at www.myspace.com/littlerickyayala or www.little-ricky.biz. Good luck everyone...

That's alot of talent comming out of such a tiny little person. Great natural voice, nice presence and good amount of confidence. I think she'd do great, just as long as her will isn't crushed if she hears something unpleasant. Try to teach her that rejection isn't personal and that you must always strive to become better in your talent, even when you are very very good. And she is very good.

No, he hasn't tried out for Disney, we probably should do more in looking for those types of opportunities. You're right...confidence isn't a problem, his favorite place that he's performed at is the Apollo. He opted for piano lessons over vocal lessons...he just sings from the heart and loves doing it. Thanks for sharing your experience here....as I look through the posts, you've been very helpful.
CuteTxn
I saw several kids- I would say 16 and under, that had a hard time with not making the next round. I'm talking hysterical, unconsolable crying This is EXACTLY why I wouldn't have my boy doing auditions like this.

I witnessed some whack talent make the cut and even a small child would see the injustice of this. Just imagine, you're some really talented kid who doesn't make the cut but in your same group some old haggardly lady who gargles in the morning with rubbing alcohol and smoke 5 packs a day gets to the 2nd round. That's hard for me to understand but for a small child? This is much too early to experience the uglinsest that is professional auditioning.

My Daughter is set to audition in LA next Tuesday, she is 11. She has been performing in local shows here in town with a teacher. She really wants to do this audition and I have had long talks about what to expect and how to handle and comments good or bad. I think she just really wants to say she did it. She has a lot of support from friend and family. I think each child will take everything differently, but if you belive they can handle the crowd and possible rejection, then it can be a great experiance and allow them to make a decision on if they ever want to do it again. You can watch my daughter on youtube, here is a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SF5N-D3DcZ8

This is Noellia singing Amazing Grace (a portion of it). She also has other contemporary videos on youtube.
She's auditioning on Tuesday the 11th in Los Angeles.
Being her mom, I've been concerned about this huge audition (it will be a long day!) She has a really good attitude and says "Mom, if anything it will be a great learning experience" well... I hope she still feels that way when it's over!
Check out her youtube and let me know what you think please.
