A question to the singers. If you make it on the show, what are some songs you want to sing?
pizzagirl543
Umm... pop songs but songs that showcase my talent, no offense to Hilary Duff or anything but songs like hers can't showcase a person's ability to belt it out. Probably Michelle Branch or Ashley Tisdale.
Belter36
Broadway....big songs.....

I would choose something completley different every week to show my versatality, but they'd all have the big money notes.
pizzagirl543
If I choose lots of pop songs, then I might get kicked off. I don't a song with a good beat/melody, maybe classics (i don't know any, lol, well at least the top of my head I don't.) Good luck to everyone, not just singers but everyone!
pizzagirl543
jonj120893, what would you sing?? since you asked, i'm going 2 ask u.
stlslamgrl76
I think you should sing whatever style you're comforatble with and that showcases your talent. Personally, I sing rock music like Led Zeppelin, The Black Crowes, Journey, and Guns n Roses, just to name a few. So, if I were to make it on the show I'd choose the songs that I do best from those groups and that are very well-known. The song would of course have to be appropriate for tv audiences but also shows range and vocal ability. I'd also throw in a song that would totally throw them off just to show versatility. Maybe a song from LeAnn Rimes or Aretha Franklin or something like that to show I'm not just a one-dimensional rocker!

What is happening on April 5th? Is that an original audition (for a city that hasn't had them yet) or is that a call back audition? It's been so long since I auditioned (back in January in Orlando) that I have somewhat lost track of all the dates. Good luck no matter what. Thanks.

I don't know what I'm singing yet, either.
**MY AUDITION DATE : APRIL 7th**
I think I'm going to see what comes to me [by way of prayer]
I'm REALLY confident about this oppurtunity ohmy.gif)

idk... I might sing a Michelle Branch song?? IDK, I can't pracitce because i'm sick. Auditions for April 5th are 15 days away! One of my friends might be auditioning... my mom sorta said yes, but I still didn't ask my dad yet... he doesn't know I like to sing...

How did you tell your parents you wanted to audition (this question is for kids obviously...lol)? I have 15 days which is enough notice... good luck everyone!

Some thoughts as you are choosing your audition and ( if/when you make the show); Take song that you to sing, make it fresh and then practice it acappella...record it an play it back and listen. I really would stick to the "most people would recognize this song" list. That can include music from many different decades/artists. Songs that make others ( and you) feel something when they hear it. Show case your money notes of course, but don't over sing the song ( again another good reason for that tape recorder and play back). Take a deep breath and sing your song from your soul...

I don't subscribe to the "everyone has to know the song" idea because when you sing something everyone knows then you are compared to the original singer and you'll never be considered as good. I say go for a song that you can evoke emotion from the listener. Always bring goosebumps. And some people don't have the ability to bring the "money" notes so instead sing it from the heart. And remember opinions are like...well you know the saying...deep in side you know what to do...just follow it.

As a Roy Orbison impersonator I have to sing his songs. The hard part is cutting the songs down to a minute and a half. I hope to sing "Blue Angel" for my next song if I get a call back.

Hi Belter,

I was really surprised when you said you only got 30 seconds to sing. I think you have a great voice. I guess it really does depend on the song you choose. When Jake went in with 10 singers they all got 1 minute and 30 seconds. The judges only had three singers in that group come back for private tapings. Jake was one of them, and his song was unusual. The other two singers songs were different also. You are right about the money notes, but don't over do it. I have one comment to all singers that tried out please bring your instruments next year. They gave everyone a private taping that could sing and play. Next year we're bringing Jake's Keyboard. Good Luck!!!Tr

I just told my parents "Mom and dad, their is a television show called America's Got Talent that is having auditions in NYC soon. I REALLY want to go. So can I?" and then I said my audition date is on April 5. When is your's pizzagirl?

I still don't know what to sing...I am stuck between sooooooooooooo many songs, all of them are kind of old though.

I also got April 5th. Hmm.. I wouldn't choose anything that is boring then the producers might not give you a fair shot. Don't sing anything you can't sing your best. If you sound blah on a song, don't sing it. I'd say listen to them all. You should sing something they might know. But as long as you sounds like you have talent, the song is good. Good luck picking out a song.

Hi Tiger!
Orlando was the city that we didn't get alot of things. Now I will say that I stopped after 30 seconds so I don't know if they would have let me go longer BUT I read in other cities they got to use music tracks, they were told immediately, so we may have been the "Ginny pig city" where they decided what to do at the other cities. My song was different then everyone else's and I hit a HUGE Money note and got some gasps when I finished but still I haven't heard back so.....you just never know what they want. I'm ok if I don't get called....I'm resigned I guess because it'll never stop my love of singing no matter how old and crotchety I get! LOL

Hi Belter,

WE feel the same way about Orlando's Audition. They were just semi organized, and I wish they had told everyone that day. My son has been keeping busy, and has quite a few things keeping him busy with his music, and Theatre. When he was with his group at auditions I was in there because he was only 15, and I have to say I thought almost everyone that was in his group were awesome. We will have to meet you next year in Orlando's auditions. Best Wishes, TR

Yes I was a bit disappointed at how unorganized it was and there was one guy that was handing out the wrist bands that was very rude but I was still glad to be there. I also thought everyone that auditioned with my group were all very talented singers. There was one little girl that looked about 6 and she was so brave and she just stepped right up and and sang it was adorable.

Your son should just keep pursuing his dream, he has his whole life ahead of him to make that audition so that is the best thing about the younger ones auditioning, whereas for myself I don't have that much longer to do it. I may not audition next year because my opinion on this show has changed a lot but I wish everyone who does audition the best of luck and most of all have fun!!

Hi Belter, What posted was "most people would recognize this song" list. I agree with it shouldn't be the "everyone has to know the song". Money notes are different for every one. They can almost be a whisper, and still hit your soul. Any one call sing loud, to sing the notes softy, on pitch, and controlled show true talent, gives dimension to many songs. Been doing this for a while, here, there and every where..belt songs, gospel, pop, rock, jazz, and opera....sing them all, and help others to do the same. wub.gif

Hello Isobella,
Looks like we think in different directions, which is cool because that is what makes us all unique right? I consider recognizing the song and knowing the song the same thing. To me singing the song softly and on pitch is the easier to do compared to "belting". Singing "loudly and belting are 2 very different things. To hold a note in the belt range and holding it on key and with power is also true talent. But you certainly sound like you've been making many a listener and student very happy for many years by reading your resume, great job! Do you have anything on YouTube I'd love to see it.

Hello Belter,

I knew if we met I would like you! You've got fire!I am sure we would agree to disagree on some things, but agree on others. Plus if anyone "criticized" the art of "belting" (of which I am one as well), you and I would join forces and make "Believers" of them all! I don't have anything on YouTube yet, I haven't had the nerve. Yikes!

well one of my favorite things is to watch a great belter..please get the courage and put a YouTube up!!! You know your talented, let it shine!!
