I was watching a re-run episode tonight. Don't remember the title.

Plot Synopsis: Two guys get into a tussle in a church. Tussle broken up by priest and a church utility worker. One accuses the other of stealing from the collection box. Priest tells both to leave to cool off. The younger one, along with a buddy, attack and rob a hot dog vendor for drug money. They are both arrested when they make their purchase. From jail, the younger guy calls someone to spring them. The two young guys split. The younger guy involved involved in the church altercation goes back and confronts the church utility man. Attacks and kills him.

As the episode unwinds it looks like the priest and the young guy have a "thing" going on. The young guy is murdered. Evidence starts to point at the priest. He is arrested. Confesses to the murder. Turns out he did kill th e boy who turned out to be the love child of the priest and a young female parish member. He turns down a plea deal from Carver. Attempts to use a "beaten spouse" defense claiming that the young man was his lover. After further investigation Goren and Eames find the now grown female parish member. Turns out the priest killed the young man because he was going to black mail his mother.

Goren tells Eames to sit on the discovery because he wants to convince the priest to take the plea bargain. He convinces the priest to do so to spare the woman from testifying. Carver talks to Goren in his office. Asks Goren how he did it. Goren tells him that he got him to do so to protect an innocent 3rd party. Carver says to Goren, "If you ever go around me again....I'll have your badge"

Why would he be pissed if he was the one who came up with the original plea bargain. Seems kind of petty to me on Carver's part.

LandOrderFan, please read the rules and regs for posting to the board. Please check through the existing threads before creating new ones. If an appropriate, episode thread already exists, please write your question or make your comment there. If not, post your question in "Confused about something on CI."

Reducing duplicate threads keeps the board tidier and even though your post will be in an existing thread your post/question/comment will be read and heard.

Goren asked to speak to that suspect without his lawyer present. The man was not going to take the original plea bargain, claimed spousal abuse by his lover rather than reveal the boy's mother's identity, which would have been revealed by the natural course of events in Goren and Eames' investigation into his gas receipts and the information found in the boy's wallet. Now, magically, he changes his mind about his defense after speaking to a police detective. Sounds like something shady has taken place (which it has) and Carver is not one to take an endrun around the Constitution lightly. There are several more similar clashes between Goren and Carver in the early years of Criminal Intent.

Hi LandOrderFan,

The episode you're inquiring about is called "The Faithful" from season one of CI.

Please do heed member StefanL's advice about starting new threads. If you have a question about the show, but are uncertain of the episode title, please place your question in the thread called "Confused about CI." If an epi thread already exists, your question/post will be moved to the appropriate thread.

In this case, there was no thread for this episode. The NBC LOCI board did not exist in season one. It did not start up until the summer of 2006. I have renamed your thread to correctly reflect the episode title.

Individual episodes threads will not be created for the early years of CI -- before the board existed. It would make the board hideously long (total number of pages), and not enough member discussion would occur for each early episode to warrant creating the threads.

Members, if you have questions or comments about season one thru five, please post them in the "Confused about CI" thread and your questions will be answered.

Thanks!

Thanks to both StefanL and Peaches for their responses. Thanks for the advice and in the future if I can't find an appropriate thread I will post to the "confused" thread and not start a topic.

While you are obviously correct that the Constiitution protects suspects from speaking to the police w/o legal council, the attorney did leave the room when his client said he would speak to Goren alone. He could have insisted on staying in the room. It isn't like he was trying to get a confession that he killed the victim. That had already been established.

Boy, given some other violations of ethics and constitution that have been displayed in the other L&O series, Carver would have had a field day collecting badges.
