Hi! I just joined here to ask this and some other questions and read other posts.

Well, I am a 13 year old girl who lives about 1 1/2 hrs from the NY audition venue, in Jersey. Well, I go to middle school, and both my parents work normal 8-5 or so days, and my audition day is April 7th, a Monday. I was wondering if anyone knew if there is a way to switch my day to one of the weekend days or something. Because I don't want to send a video unless I have to, but there's no way I can miss school and my parents can miss work for me to audition.

I am a singer. Also, not sure if my parents take me seriously about this. My dream is to do Idol when I'm 16, but I'm tired of waiting! My parents just say that I can wait a few years and it's not gonna happen. I love to sing! But I heard on here that they chose their singers already?!

If they have auditions the day before (Sunday), and your parents can take you, I would feel confident that they would accept you on that day. When we auditioned in Los Angeles, they didn't even really want our email confirmations. The only problem will be that Sunday will be very busy. We went on a Monday and it wasn't too bad .. but still had a several hour wait to be seen.

Good luck to you!

Someone called most of us a few days before our auditions. When they call you, have a list of questions already in mind to ask them.If they don't call, I would show up with my email for the 7th on Sunday, probably, cause it really is an open call and I don't think they check the email you recieved at all really. The time frames they give are just for them to keep it flowing through the day. There were people in Nashville that didn't even sign up that got to auditon. But that doesn't mean they'll do the same in NY. I know you want to do it all right now, but, most of the time, our parents do know best. So, keep on dreaming and do what you can do. If it is meant to be, the cards will fall in to place when its the right time. I hope you get to go and remember, above all else, have a great time. It's alot of fun.

Thanks for the help! I am just thinking my parents are reluctant to take me. I have been taking lessons since I was 6 and just recently stopped in February cuz my vocal teacher died. But she was my only vocal teacher, and I miss her, so I wanna do this for her! To dedicate my singing to her. But I'm just not sure if I'm ready?! IDK, my voice is still kind of preteen-ish. Not like very mature. But I just don't know whether to take the chance and make my parents take me if there's like no more singers being put through, etc.

You should defintely do it! If you get turned down (you'll find out on the same day since the callbacks will be 3-4 after the audition), you can go sightseeing. That's what i'm planning 2 do if I get turned down. It's woth a shot. My parents are like that too (i'm also 13...I still didn't ask my dad who will be driving me if I can go...but back to your problem...) If you do make the callback you probably will have to miss school... unless it's on a weekend or something. It's just one day (but you might get a lot of work so I could understand why you don't want to miss anything. If you do have to go on Monday, ask your teachers on Friday what work you'll have to do on Monday, and they might give you the classwork/homework you can do while waiting on line, or in the car) but you might be able to go on Saturday or Sunday though. If you can't, just go on Monday. And i'm really sorry for your loss.

thanx so much! lol. well i dont think school is my parents' main concern. its their work. they have work that day, and my mom started a new job about 2 months ago and cant afford to miss it, and my dad is the boss of his business, so kinda has to be there.

and i realized that i have a prior commitment that sunday, april 6th. its not like going to the mall with friends or anything, because i would totally reschedule to audition, but its something with my synagogue, which coincidentally enough, is a new york trip.

but i would definitely go saturday, but thats probably the busiest day. but i just dont know if im ready or if my parents are. people have always told me i have a great voice, even people i dont get along with, but im not sure if they just say that because they have to or want to be nice. so i will never know if singings really my thing or people just tell me it is, so i think auditioning would help me prepare for the future, and hoepfully in a few years, american idol!

and my last concern is my weight. i've seen on idol when simon tells people to lose weight and stuff, so i dont know about AGT. im 13 and pretty overweight, so my weight is probably my biggest concern for my audition! i dont wanna be laughed at.

but any other people my age or around there, do you know what you are singing? if so, can you tell me? i promise, i wont copy! but i am thinking maybe how do i live by leann rimes, or love is a battlefield, by pat benatar. any advice on what to sing of how to convince my parents to take me?

first ruben studdard was really overweight and he didnt let him stop him. believe in yourself and you will prevail. i was an overweight kid so i know how it feels. but beliveve me when i sy this. if i had any talent as a singer i would have gone for it then and that was over 20 years ago.
do you have any other uncles or aunts or adults that can take you besides your parents.

where there a wil there a way

good luck
believe in yourself and all else will prevail

Saturday will be the busiest I think...but idk. If they mention something about your weight then they are rude jerks. The Glamazons were on America's Got Talent Season 2! They are a group of overweight singers who would wear revealing costumes because they were confident (i'm not saying u should do that but they we're confident to wear them) a lot of people liked them. I agree with thedjworks. You shouldn't let your weight stop you. Most likely those people really mean it when they say you are good at singing.

You know what, not all of us are 5'10 and 100lbs. God made us all different and don't ever let weight stop you because you will shine from the inside out and your talent will soar....believe in yourself and be proud of who you are.

I had the same issues with my parents. I'm 15 and I sing play guitar and harmonica. I wanted to audition for season 2 but my parents didn't take me seriously. I persisted and I auditioned in Chicago last week. The bar being so high for singers I didn't make it. Now I'm trying to convince them to let me go to NY because we live in Vermont so it's within driving distance. I have a confirmation email for the 7th but as we learned in Chicago that doesn't mean much. I don't know if my parents will let me skip school again, and I have a church thing on Sunday which is not anything special but one of those things you have to do. If I don't make it in NY either, I'm considering Idol next year because I'll be 16 and they're allowing instruments. The Chicago experience was fun besides the not making it part, but oh well. As Bob Dy;an said, "There's no success like failure and failure's no success at all." When we were being taken to our audition room the guy turned around and said to us "Welcome to the dream." It was such a fun experience and I hope I can do it again in NY. I did Coperline by James Taylor. I'm thinking of doing a Bob Dylan song or something w/ a sweet harmonica solo for NY. Any suggestions? Best of luck to you, and remember, never give up because there's always a way you just have to be willing to look for it.
