Actually my day job is my decompression from these forums...

LOL j/k
No, seriously, I'm involved in a lot of things to "decompress"... and I LOVE my RL job. I love working with addicts and alcoholics b/c I understand them and how they think. Plus the treatment team I work with is awesome! We have a lot of fun, although if most people overheard some of the rather dark stuff we find humorous they would be shocked. But we are like a big family at work and we all really support one another. And with all the other stuff I'm involved in I'm too busy to get "compressed"...LOL.
My director is a Vietnam Vet suffering from PTSD. That sounds like an interesting project. Hopefully I'm about to start yet another project. My boss asked me today if I would be interested in heading up our new IOP program and be our Drug Court Liason... sounds like opportunity is knocking...but I've got to make up my mind whether I'm going to pursue my Ph.D. before I accept b/c I've been giving that a lot of thought.
As for the Tao... no matter what kind of hurricane is going on around me I can take a couple of minutes to meditate on some of the passages and I get completely calm.
You are lucky to have a great team to work with. And you know, 'dark humour' is either your cup of tea or it isn't. Especially in your work environment anything to lighten things up, albeit going 'dark'..
As for your opportunities, congratulations on having two! Pursuing your Ph.d is a big deal so I can imagine that it's one or the other. Good luck on that one.
As for my project re. to ptsd. I have no rosy pictures on that. I see it completely as a supplemental, supportive feature to what veterans most likely 'ought' to be doing which is going to therapy and perhaps taking meds temporarily in order to function. There is still a lot to learn for myself, but getting the right people on board will be key. Never mind yet the actual program.
You must be an experienced meditator to be able to withdraw like that. Good for you or..lucky you! I'd love to get into a meditation program myself because it will be practice practice practice. I just read a book on systema breathing techniques and I am now reading a book on Zen by Paul Ralston, name escapes me.
Anyhow.. with all the sprucing and editing you guys have been doing on the board, I think that level of 'stress' is pretty well done now for all of you isn't it?? lol
I still think some of the chronic offenders should have been tackled but you (plural) are probably thinking, what the hey, this show is almost done. It might be an fyi for the next time. I've visited various boards and blogs and some people just seem to have the need to antagonize, no matter what.
Anyhow.. take care and good luck with your choice of opportunity. Something for you to meditate on I guess!
