Dear JSouthTheSinger,

Remember when you audition "greater are those who are with us, than those who are with them". You will not be in that audition alone. May He calm every fear, quiet every doubt, and bless you with His perfect peace as you sing. Amen, you have been an inspiration to me as I read your posts. Believe and know there are others who read your words and lift you up in prayer. Finally" Be courageous and do not be afraid for the Lord thy God goes before you to make a way for you".

Why do I sing? Because when God puts a song in your heart you can't keep it inside, that would be like to hold your breath forever! I couldn't not sing even if I wanted to stop.
Blessings,
Isolabella

Dear Isolabella,

Thank you for your words of encouragement!!!!!! You are one of the few posters that bring HOPE AND WISDOM to this board smile.gif GOD will surely BLESS YOU!! biggrin.gif

JSouthTheSinger: it's ok, it's your choice to keep it private I guess i'll find out if your audition gets on tv.

But now I definitely know I am auditioning! Both of my parents said YESSSSSSSH! Not like that but i'm excited, good luck to everyone! This is what my dad told me: that you can't be severly disapointed if you don't make it to the callbacks.

This is my own advice: because there are many people AND MOST OF WHAT THEY WANT IS GOOD RATINGS! So we are all talented so don't give up if you don't make it, thousands of us can't all be on the show, remember that.

This is wonderful news pizza girl, I am so excited for you. I know you feel relieved. Have a great time.
pizzagirl543
Thanks so much! What should we talk about??
Namasteian
Has anyone here shared what they're singing? I know I am being overly paranoid, but I feel like I shouldn't yet, because it will be bad luck or something. Everyone will know once I am there though, because I will be singing it in the waiting area, warming up, and practicing for my audition. This is crazy, like I said before, I am 32, and I have been getting butterflies repeatedly just THINKING about this! I feel like a little kid. I don't think I've been this nervous since the last time I gave birth, lol!

Hello All,

What to where? Ask Isolabella! Dress others as a "hobby". Depending upon your height, body type, hair color/style there are some "do" and "Do not try this, even at home!". If you are vertically challenged ( like me) stick to "tone on tone colors" from top to bottom. Accents colors placed closest to your performing talent....if you sing, near your face. There are some colors that look good on almost anyone ( women in this case) they are turquoise and coral. The print colors maybe a bit off here as there were only so many choices.

Pick clothes THAT FIT YOU! No matter what your size nothing looks worse that too big or too small/too tight. A visit to the tailor is well worth it. You can get by with clothing that is less expensive if it fits well. You will also feel more confident!

Think. How Will this look on me in a photo? Usually, at most auditions you get a polaroid picture! These are just about the least flattering photos possible and it will go with your paperwork. Take your picture in your clothing choice and ask a friend ( who will really tell you) for their opinion.

Don't wait until the last minute to decide
. Bring a back up out fit, shirt, pants ( which ever applies). Girls/Women if you wear sunscreen ( which you should) that day make sure it not the kind with titanium dioxide, zinc etc. They can/will make you face appear ghostly white..they reflect the light off of your face. Ok if you're outside, not in a photo.

I believe in: A great fitting pair of darker denim (worth every penny)! Again doesn't matter what your size, just as long as they fit you well.

Some fabric facts: Shiny fabrics bring focus ( and some times the appearance of extra lbs) to an area. Round necklines bring "roundness" to your frame. " V" necks are flattering to most curvy girls along with 3/4 sleeves. Stay away from pure white tops...they tend to get "transparent" on stage and in photos.

Girls: If you can wear false eyelashes, do! If you can't do them yourself ( me neither...they look like caterpillars when I do them!) a larger department store, like "M" or " N" usually has a counter that sells lashes and will put them on for you if you don't have the "NAC". ;-)

If you have any questions or need more info, I'd be happy to help. No matter what, the beauty you will bring with your talent will outshine whatever you choose you wear!
XOXO,
Isola

I am glad the "Polaroid" tip helped. Really, if it looks good in a Polaroid Photo...it will look good in person, in pictures and usually on stage too. I'll be thinking of you this weekend in NYC. Wow 13! That's when I started singing. My daughter is 13 and she is just starting lessons...from Mama.
I know He will continue to give you perfect peace over your choice of song(s). You know "it is for this very purpose He has raised you up".

That is great advie from Isola. Something I try to do, as a singer, is make sure my outfit, fits the song. For me, my clothing and accessories, are all part of the creative process when I am puttting a song together for a performance.

Ciao! I'm really happy that the auditions are coming up but nervous...(not now but definitely later...)

I didn't know we had to take a poloroid picture! This is horrible news!

I'm going to make a checklist of all of the things I need for my audition. Like all of the papers (info sheet, contract, e-mail), CD, food, water, books, homework, games, coat. Always bring a backup song if you last minute decidely that you can't do the song you're singing, rather be safe than sorry. Also bring the lyrics if you're thinking you're gonna blank. Also bring your iPod to hear your song again or just listen to music. Girls and guys who have long hair: bring hair ties just in case you're waiting for a long ime and you're sick of your hair in your face. It's happened to me multiple times. You don't have to go crazy and bring your whole house but bring some items with you to make the time go faster. For girls and guys who wear makeup: bring some kaeup not all fo it but a few essential items just in case your makeup fades, you want to look presentable and not with mascara stains on your undereyes.

What time are you guys trying to get to your audition? I'm going to try and shoot for 10am (my time slot is 12-3) they said there would be a lot of people there enspecially on Saturday. Is that too late or early?? I want to know when other people will be coming for their auditions.

Good Luk everyone, keep a positive attitude but don't get your hopes up then you'll feel majorly disapointed. Also remember not everyone can get a callback there simply is too many of us and not enough slots to go around.

If you are wearing high heels, you might want to wear comfy shoes and bring the others to put on right before the audition. Someone said that early on, and it was the best thing I did.

They will take the poloroid while you are in line, to be turned in with your paper work.

I guess I'll add my two cents here, though I am not exactly a "style maven." Usually for my shows I just wear a tunic top and black pants, but from what I have read I think it's a good idea to really step it up for this particular audition. Remember that they are going for a "Vegas" feel....and I suspect that means they are looking for bright, shiny & dazzling. So, to that end, I ordered a very sparkly plus size top from a website that is a little more jazzy than what I would usually wear. Someone once said to me that "you can't overdress for your own gig" and I think that's the best advice for this thing. I can't give advice to anyone else here, but I don't think dressing conservatively is the way to go.
I know that the trend among young singers today is just a sort of "I just fell out of bed onto the stage" look, but the ones who are the BIG STARS know how to dress for a performance.
After all, you'd never see Michael Jackson, Madonna or Bette Midler out there in a t-shirt and jeans.
Just a thought!
And by the way, I'm really nervous too and I appreciate being able to come here and talk with you guys because it does help pass the time.

I would wear something a little more fancier than school, but not like a semi formal dance (like a dinner dance) The casting peoples (don't know what they're called !) probably will judge you on your appearance since it is your first impression on them. They won't like if you wear sweats and wear your hair n a really messy bun,but something casual with a fancy twist. You should be semi comfortable in what you're in (not in pain, but it might be pjs you're wearing if you're too comfy) I have 2 go my sister wants the computer, but make good outfit choices.

Ok, I'm on here now, because I'm starting to doubt myself, and need everyone here's help. I had already decided on a song, a song I really like and felt good about, and I told my mom (mistake!), and she said she doesn't really like that song, and said I should do a different one. I don't know, I really feel like the song I picked is 'the one', but now she has me doubting myself. What do you guys think?

I would have to hear you sing the song..... If that's not possible, my advice is to listen to your mother. "Mother knows best!" But then again my mom always tell me to "sing the song straight", meaning don't do any runs .... and that NEVER applies for ME biggrin.gif So, who knows???...... Sing it for someone else, and if they suggest the same thing, then change your song smile.gif

Don't second guess yourself. If you go against your gut, your will be thinking about it the entire time. If you pick the song that's it your soul and don't make it that day, that will not feel half as bad as singing a song that was someone's else choice and not making it. I always believe that "God tells YOU first, then confirms through His word or through fellow believers". He knows what this means to you. He gave you the dream in your heart, the talent and this opportunity. He will give you the song. You need to listen to Him. I believe He has already given you the answer...I will ask others who read this post to lift you up in prayer...and give you the support that you need. Queenfish is soooo right about the shoes! Also make sure you bring water. If you tend to get a dry throat when you are nervous or tired ( that's me), try the sour gum trick. Get some sour apple/lemon gum and chew a few pieces right before. I learned this from a long time professional. Just don't get the kind that turns your mouth blue!

Yes, the dreaded Polaroid. I am sure you have watched AI and seen Simon, Paula and Randy sitting at the table with all those Polaroids...putting the AI puzzle together.

I'm going to wear flats that look fancy, but aren't uncomfortable. I'm 13 I don't want to look like i'm trying to look like an adult by wearing heels (they might think that) but that is great advice for anyone else who is older and wears heels.

Oh defintely, I just hope that I look decent. That's what everyone hopes but still.

I'm so excited, but so nervous by tomorrow. Good luck to everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
pizzagirl543
Quick question: should I start singing the chorus or sing from the beginning?

And i have a singing tip: breathe through your nose because your vocal coards can get dry if you breathe through your mouth and you might crack your voice (hope not, that would be embarrasing for anyone!) I have a habit of breathing through my mouth but i'm trying to reverse it.

Oh sweetie. Don't stress. Don't be so hard on yourself. I know you will do great. Everybody knows how brothers and sisters can be. Don't sweat it. Just remember everything we've talked about before. Don't give power to fear. If you allow it to overcome you , It will. Just take a deep breath and remember to believe in yourself. We are all right here behind you. When you feel like you are alone in this, remember all of us. And use our energy to get threw it. You will be fine. We got your back.

Thank you so much you are the only people who care. People at school (my friends) talk about their problems and i'm supposed to fix them all (it feels like that, but I do give a lot of advice to them) I can't sing one song right it's probably me not the song. I'm not even sick anymore I just get mucus in my nose a lot but I feel fine. Sorry if i'm self absorbed. I don't realize it.

Pizzagirl543, you are not self absorbed...you are FOCUSED!! As someone very wise once told me ( since they probably had siblings like us!) "Don't let them rent space in your head!". I know QueenFish and I will both be thinking of you and praying for you. We LOVE Pizzagirl543!!!

Thank YOU...I came so close to not posting the message to you as I didn't know how it would be received. But the Lord really put it on my heart to post it. Thank you...for reminding me that when He calls us to step out in faith and we obey, He confirms it was truly His will and not our own. Now I absolutely know you and your song are a "divine appointment" for all those who will hear! God can and will give you favor "The kings heart is in the Lord's hand and He can turn it towards you". You have blessed me. I stand with you in spirit and in faith. Jumping up and down for you!!!

I have mixed feelings: I feel confident about what I do, but fear that what I do is not what they are looking for. Does that make sense? Also, because I am so OLD (48) I guess I am really pinning a lot of hopes on this opportunity, so that kind of anxiety adds to the mix.
I just don't want to collapse into a puddle of despair if they say "Thanks, but no thanks." I just want to come out of it with some dignity!

amen sisterrrrrr!

its starting to set into reality so i feel the same way, this isnt really just an audition for me. i put like everything on this and the last 2 years were horriable for me so once they hear my story, it should help them decide. not to sound overly confident or anything but im like 85% sure that they will put me through :]

Hi!! Good luck to everyone and don't sing a lot today. It makes you sound strained at the audition. You can breathe through your mouth while singing, but don't do it a lot, you have your nose too. You don't want your vocal cords to get dry mid song. Drink A LOT of water and if you have a cold, blow your nose when they call you in, I mean blow a lot out it helps make your voice sound better. Good luck to everyone again. I hope all of you picked a song you can sing the best! I gtta go, my audition is 12-3 today and we're leaving at 8:30 (IT'S 7:57 NOW) Just prepare yourself!!!!!!! I'll post my experience on here, defintely. BYE!!!!

What ever happens...keep the faith. Someone on one of the other posts asked for a song that represents my experience with the AGT Audition. This came to mind.

The Voice of Truth by Casting Crowns

And they laugh at me
Reminding me of all the times
I've tried before and failed
The waves they keep on telling me
Time and time again. "Boy, you'll never win!"
"You'll never win!"

Chorus:
But the voice of truth tells me a different story
The voice of truth says, "Do not be afraid!"
The voice of truth says, "This is for My glory"
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth....

"Be still and know that I am God". He can do it. God's voice will always be the one that encourages you. Remember He gave you the dream in the first place. He will put people in your path to bring it to pass. So when you all make the "big time" remember Mama Isolabella when I call and ask for tickets!

Sorry i'm posting this a little late, it was a long day yesterday so I jsut wanted to go to bed. Ok I woke up at 7am (this is my whole day so it's gonna take a while when my dad asks if he wants me to get me a bagel I wanted a plain bagel w/ butter. I drag myself out of bed a few minutes later and go downstairs. I eat the bagel when my dad comes back then I posted a message on here and got ready. I straightened my hair and tried to look nice but nothing fancy. My famil and i LEFT AT 8:40 AND WE WERE GOINGG TO GET MY SISTER'S BEST FRIEND AND GO TO THE BANK AND GET MY BIRTH CERTIFICATE. (sORRY ITS IN CAPS TOO LAZY TO FIX IT) we got my sisters's fiend and went to the bank, olny my birth certificate WASN'T there! So we went back home and my mom started yelling at me that I should've told her about the birth certificate sooner (I gave her notice but whatever...) it was nowhere to be found so we just used my social security card and my school id. By the time we left AGAIN is was 11am exactly. Then it was 12:15 hen we saw the Javatiz (can't spell!) center with a HUGE line! My mom said, "that's odd there's mostly men there." It turned out that that was a line for a police officer test for men and some women (which i didn't see) who want to be police officers but we find that out later. So then we walk to a nearby mcdonalds byut we get nothing. I t was so windy that day, my ears were hurting so much! We saw a deli type place and go in since there aren't a lot of food places near the Javitz center. There was nothing we liked so we left. Then we see this chinese restuarent place and go in we end up eating there. I got this mixed vegtables plate with fired rice, it was delicous and eveyone else didn't really like their food, thye said it was alright. Then we go back to the Javitz center (in the front), we waklk towards underground of it idk (it looked like a place where you put your car in a mall), then we went in another door, this ma told us to go on the shorter line which was the America's Got Talent line then we found out the long huge line which took up 2 block was for police officer hopefuls so do NOT go on that line if you see mostly men and it's two blocks long! My family and the friend had to sign these guest papers saying that they can't sue if they get on tv. We all got wristbands (red for the guests and blue for the performer (me)). This man with a fannypack type thing on his waist contianed stickers with numbers on them (like the contestants on American Idol wear). He gave me two, one to wear and one to go with my paper work. we waited on line which was very quick. Then I saw people with poloroid pictrues and we had to go back outside and get my picture taken. I looked nice but it looked like I cut off half of my eyebrows (lol!) This lady reviewed my paperwork and eventually paperclipping it all of it., she told us to go downstairs and go in this HUGE waiting room with alots of chairs. There was a camera there and people interviewing perfomrers like... there we're two actors who wore baseball uniforms. There was an elvis impersonator they also interviwed. When I came back in after my audition (i'll tell you in a minute) they were interviweing this girl in a hula girl costume. There was a speaker that went onff 10 miutes after I came in (when I went in this guy reviewed my paperwork and told me the last 3 numbers of my sticker will be my number that will be told over the intercom/speaker which is when i'll be uaditioning. The speaker said numbers this was: 3-0-1, 2-9-5, etc. He came on again maybe 20 mnitues later and said two numbers that were one number away from my number (447, 449, My number was 448) But I didn't get called. I was triyng so hard to review my lyrics because I thought I would blank. I had to go to the bathroom twice since I drank a lot of water. When I went the second time, they called my number right when I came in but I didn't hear it. Instead my dad was coming towards me saying, "they called your number lets go." This room was huge so we formed a line in the back of the room, every 10 minutes it moved. We saw this guy on line who seemed nice he was taliing to my dad (he is important later in the story). Whn we left the room with some of the other people, we were following one of the guys who had those blue agt collared shirts on. Then we were standing near a men's room and a set of chairs. I really had to go to the bathroom again, I was going to pee in my pants so I ran in the mens room!!! Only 1 guy saw me! So I went and ran I didn't even bother to wash my hands, I heard someone flush so I ran fo it, being afriad thast it was the guy in the stall next to me! I was done in 30 seconds maybe even less, 15 mniutes later we were able to sit in the chairs. The parents/guardians weren't able to sit in them though. The other people and I (we were all singers) became a group and went in the audition room together. There were two people in the room who I'm guessing were casting people or producers. We walked a few steps and stated ur name, age, where we were from, and what song we were singing and sang it. Everyone was better than I am!! I was horrifed by the timre I went I thoguht I sounded horrible. The guy I mentioned before who talked to my dad wnet up, he was REALLY good! Then the other went and wer also great! The two people told us it would take them a minute for them to decided who would get callbacks so we went outsaid where the chairs were and waited and one of the collard shirt guys told us the guy that my dad talked to got a callbakc and he thanked everyone else for coming. So yup, I didn't make it. I was half expecting it the other half, expecting it so I wasn't totally crushed. So you can't give your hopes up. Good luck to everyone. It didn't take 7 hours, so I would audition again because they were very organized. I was impressed. I was just plain tired by the time we left the Javitz center, but no we had to go to Applebee's, I was about to fall asleep there so I just got a plate of fries, and got a chocolate mousse shoorter.

So I guess what they are all saying is true??? This isn't a show about talent it is a show about ratings....that is sad!
pizzagirl543
Ugh. My story is too long for anyone wanting to read it! I won't be on the boards as much, but I won't go away forever.
Belter36
I read yours and I appreciate you taking the time to tell your story!
pizzagirl543
Thanks for reading. I'm actually at school now. I don't know about you but when I went back to school on Monday I dreaded it because it meant reality. It must be the same way for people who go to work. I wasn't expecting a callback but it would nice if my dream actually came true. I won't have any more oppurtunities like this till' i'm 18!

Lets keep singing anyway, because we are all great at it. Even if we didn't get a stupid callback.

Yeah, it is weird to go from the excitement of auditions to back to the real world but YOU are young and have many more auditions ahead of you!! Keep looking forward!
