NBC, I've got two words for ya.... THANK YOU! I can't wait to see the new series.

But please, don't do a "Fast and the Furious" in Las Vegas please?

Remember the mission and theme of Knight Rider, "A young loner on a crusade to champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless, the powerless, in a world of criminals who operate above the law."

I would love to see them handle things such as the current culture of corruption in Washington, D.C.

Good luck.

The new guy is hot, hot, hot. I'll be watching this.

Why is this?

Hasselhoff is old news. I think for the show to be successful it needs to build its own characters.

When does the new show kick off?

Knight Rider premieres on September 24.

Times have changed since the 80s. I will be surprised if this lasts.

won't bother watching this with no Michael Knight

I will have to say this new tech mean new things. With star Trak. Which help invent the cell phone. Turbo Boast knight rider 2000 has. Alot of cars have something like it which force into the motor. Which in cars it feels like a turbo boast. My 280zxt I had to slow down due to turbo kicking in up mountain roads.

nano Tech. That something into the Unknown but we will never know.

At a recent convention, the creator of the new Knight Rider said that the TV series will be very different from the TV Movie that aired. Interesting... smile.gif

I enjoyed the TV Movie, though it had it's problems, (Ford Product Placement Overkill), so I'll give the TV series a chance.

Liked the movie, stang was sweet, but the new car sucks!
http://jalopnik.com/399299/first-pictures-...teased#loggedin

What a god awful eye sore! I was looking forward to the series but after seeing pics of the car, I think I would rather hassle-my-hoff with sand paper. How much crap could they put on that poor car? The side view looks even wost with different sized wheels.

I have an ideal. To make the car look cooler lets put an afterburner outback, like 60's batman. It also needs air scoops for the front brakes.

Maybe a body kit will be made so people can make their stang look like ****. Elenore?

If KITT saw what he looked liked I bet he kill him self.

Having grown up with the original this remake is going to be a tough sell with me. For those of you who didn't have the opportunity to live the original it all started with promo ads featuring two 'scientists'. You knew they were scientists because of the white lab coats.

The two lab coats provided 30 seconds of comparison between 'The General Lee' and 'Kitt', and if you snail mailed an address you received a packet full of diagrams, schematics, and other cool stuff showing you just HOW much cooler Kitt was than that jalopy driven by Bo and Luke Duke.

Oh, the Eighty's splendor of it all...sigh.

Comparing Kitt and this new duded up mustang leaves the old school fan wanting. I agree with the previous statement...how much crap can you stick on one car. Less is more folks...one of the most appealing features about the original Kitt was that all the cool stuff was hidden beneath that slim line exterior.

Still, I'll give it the three episode test.

I'm with you. Give it a chance first, then make your judgment. Let's see what the new show is like before we kill it or praise it.....

I agree 100% with this…
Please don’t do the gaudy over the top flash on a car like this! Consult a real car designer! Get someone from a great design school, or someone who designs cars for a living!
The design work done for the movie was tasteful and I liked it… But this new stuff I'm seeing is bumming me out…
And do away with the 80’s plasma ball, I liked the display that was actually usefull…

I watched the pilot or tv movie of it and felt there are a few things that need to be looked into. First the theme. Now I know it was to the tune in the movie but could be upbeat a little more. Maybe not too techno but something I had in mind was Romulus 3 from Need for Speed III. Excellent for the New Knight Rider I think and it is sort of up to date too. Here is the link for youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00DwRLtlvio

The second thing I was looking at in regards to Kitt is that there was already in 1991 a Knight Industries 4000. Or KIFT for short. In short this was their idea to update knightrider even more. I think NBC needs to study their 1991 approach carefully to make this one succeed. The other thing that came to mind was maybe yes bringing the Hoff and the KIFT version of KITT into the new series I mean we know the car got scrapped for parts in 1991 apparently Charles Grayson revealed that in the opening, and for buffs like me we know this from the 1991 Knight Rider 2000 TV movie. Also I like to add that having a KITT or Knight Industries 3000 well sounds like the missing link literally to sort of explain in between KITT 2000 and KIFT 4000 just that it went to Michaels sonny gems. Ok maybe that was a bit over much. Still if there is going to be a Knight 3000 go in depth into it. What happened to the original KITT. Did they keep the KITT/KIFT from KnightRider 2000 or perhaps is it that some of the programming for the original KITT is in the new KITT 3000 just the 3000 series doesn't know it. Now for a plot making think he is unique and one of a kind to find he infact has the original KITT software in it would be a good reaction response moment to see when the Knight 3000 found out.

The other option I thought about bringing in too was the fact this seems to just revolve around Michael Tracer, the Grayson daughter, the KITT developer all rolled into one happy Knight Foundation.
For crying out loud bring back April Curtis the one who worked on KITT. I mean it is nice that Michael Knight made an appearance in the end but he is the kids father for crying out loud. If you don't do like what Star Trek the Next Generation did where they brought back original cast members for special episodes it's not going to be interesting. Bringing in the original and blending it in special episodes for the series is always been what makes tv shows good. Finally I think to add another suggestion is that with the whole idea of the Foundation coming back well someone needs to add a decendant character of Devon Miles. Devon was a key figure in the original Knight Rider. If you're going to have Charles Graysons daughter I say insert a character that is a son or daughter to Devon Miles. And finally didn't I remember that Michael Knight was originally Michael Long which after something happening to him he was given surgery and renamed Michael Knight because the man who founded the Knight Foundation adopted......uh oh!!!! Better work on that family plot for Michael Tracer.

I agree the whole idea of having Kitt transform into a truck is stupid, I think the people writing and producing this version of K.R. need to do a bit of a reality check and stop trying to see how many weird and wonderful things they can get the car to do. Looks like there combining Transformers, Viper and a smattering of other shows in to a hodge podge they call the New Knight Rider.

I will watch but I hope it's not as off the wall as it apears to be.

I'm under the impression that sometime in the future they are bringing "KARR" back into the picture, Kitts evil twin. Is that true? or is this a wait and see?
M_M
I'm actually OK with using a newer Mustang and the flat black stripes looks really cool. Now on the flip side the new "Attack" Kitt...what the heck are they doing? What is this the "Fast and the Furious"? the pursuit kitt from the movie looked cool and had attitude...the new look...well looks "Gay" and what's with him transforming into a truck....arrgghhh....C'mon bust into some wall jump some cars with turbo boost...don't become a frigg'n "Autobot"! I hope they remember what they did with that TV show "Viper" they tried the same cheesy stuff and it didn't work. Then there was "Team Knight Rider" where they used the plane. Truth is I liked the "Knight Rider 2000" movie for the most part....it may have been a little to futuristic though....They really should stick with the basics, give a nod to Devon Miles and Bonnie maybe show a couple of pics of the old car and the Hoff. I like the advancement in the tech and understand the move to a new car that's totally cool. I even understand the product placement...hey they have to make money too....I can see taking a little creative from here and there from the other shows....but don't...DON'T... cheese it up....you don't have to...you don't have to fill the show up with special effects for people to like it, people aren't retarded if you have good story lines people will like it! Val Kilmer ROCKS and I like the new cast for the most part too and I was a little worried about that, but was impressed by the movie. (PLEASE listen to the fans....get it....we're the FANS)....don't mess it up....Look what happend last year with the "Bionic Woman" it could have been a great show and they screwed it up. I'd even watch that again if they did a total revamp and started from scratch. Don't change the story line to much where it isn't even that same premise and c'mon it was more "Crouching tiger hidden dragon" then "The Bionic Woman" I liked the main character too and thought she pulled it off, but to many cast members who didn't bring anything to the table, and then it started to turn into frigg'n "One Tree Hill" with bionics....and what was with the "Evil Bionic Woman"...stupid, stupid, stupid....The whole point is if it's not broken don't fix it! Look there was a recipe that worked for the original shows, and with recipes you can add an ingredient or two and it will make it better, you put to much into the mix and you'll end up with something noone can stomach! The fact is they're going into the show with a loyal fan base, why are you not going to listen to them and fill the show up with garbage? Please I liked the movie don't mess up the show!

Don't forget, M_M... Not all fans agree. In fact, who posts what here doesn't necessarily show a proper cross-section of fan opinion. Many times, it's only the people who are irate that will go rabid on forums while those who enjoy just watch and enjoy.

I'm a fan, and I'm a forum addict, so I do make positive posts on forums more often than not.

For the new KITT and the new show? Personally, I loved the new KITT from the movie, as well as all the actors. It took me a few to acclimatize myself to Jamie Martin (*coughs* Justin Bruening) being the new "driver", but by the time I was 2/3 or so through the movie, I felt he worked in quite well.

I'm a huge Val Kilmer fan and was ecstatic to hear his voice as the new Voice of KITT. No complaints from me there.

I'm a Ford fan. Have been since I bought my first car ('73 Cougar Custom Limited Edition) and even before, when my mom bought her first Mustang back in '68 ('66 'Stang convertible, Candy Apple Red with Pony Black interior! Can you say "sweeeeeet!"?). Now, I'm not too thrilled with the look of the "Attack Mode" KITT, but who knows. The look may grow on me when it's seen in action instead of being parked on a stage. I tend to find some cars just look more cool out on the road than on the showroom floor...and some look worse. I'll reserve my judgement on that. Now, I'd love to see another shot of "Cholo KITT", as Traceur called it in the movie. hehe Purple was definitely KITT's color. smile.gif

I don't think the show needs David Hasselhoff to "pull it off". I also don'tthink we need to relive the 80's style private eye shows where 10,000 bullets are fired and the worst that happens is someone skins an elbow... The kind of show is thankfully in the past. How many times did "The Hoff" beat someone up on the show and they didn't even have a black eye as the cops were hauling them off in cuffs...?! I like how they've modernized the show and brought it into the present and near-future. The gadgetry is the future of shows and heroes. Gone are the days of too corny dialogue, bar fights where no one gets hurt, dead bodies with not a drop of blood, and cars that look like they came off the showroom floor of the local dealer...except they can talk.

I like the "transformer" style they're shifting to. It's part of the future tech. I don't understand why someone would want the show to do nothing but relive the past instead of evolve. I remember when many of the same things were said about Star Trek: The Next Generation after the first 2 hour episode premiered (bunch of us from the BBS I ran gathered at the local pizza place, which had a big screen tv for football games, and the place, thankful for the easily $2000.00+ we dropped that night, gleefully put the show on...loud) as people compared it to the original series and said things like "Picard is nothing like Shatner...this show is going to fail..." People raled because the crew was different, the ship was different, the Klingons were different, everything was so different. How many seasons did it run, again? How popular was it with its "future tech" that was so far afield of the original series?

Unless they completely botch it, I'm so amped for the new Knight Rider series that I'm finding myself having a hard time waiting, which is very unusual for me. I'm usually so laid back that no matter how great a movie looks, I usually wait for it to come out on dvd... I haven't even bought Iron Man yet, and I was so amped about that movie. wink.gif

Anyway, I think that if people stopped trying to want it to be like the original series and let it stand on its own merits, they'll find themselves enjoying the new Knight Rider. Someone mentioned Bionic Woman. Personally, I miss that show. I wished it had made it. I think that most shows that don't make it nowadays, it's not because the show itself is bad, but the timeslot its given isn't best for it. If you've got, say, a Bionic Woman just coming out, don't put it opposite Heroes... Put it opposite a primetime game show, or at least one of the reality shows that's been running for a season or two longer than it should have been. I think that's what happened with Driven. I was so hyped about that show, but it was just put it in a horrific timeslot...

Don't hold this misstatement against me too much...I've not slept in two days. heh

The point is a valid one. Don't put a new and largely untested show up against one that's garnering crazy high viewer points. Put it against things that your show will have a chance against.

If monday night football were airing on the night I was considering for a new series...? I'd find another night for it...

HI!

I actually agree with you about 99% smile.gif ! Trust me I'm not looking for "The Hoff" to come back either, not sure how realistic it would be to have someone his age running around doing an action show and I really enjoyed the movie too. I also all about updating a show too and think it's pretty safe to say that not to many people want the pseudo action of the 80's like the A-Team (A thousand gun-shots fired in a show and noone ever got shot?)....I'm just hoping they spend time writing some good scripts instead on just focusing on the special effects is what I'm saying. I also do like how he can modify his apperance a little using the nano tech (change color and even modify his actuall shape), but actually transforming into a pick-up truck? I don't know about that one......? Just from viewing the trailer and not sure how it fits into a story line, you see them jump into the bed of the truck, KITT starts to "Transform" and next thing you know their sitting in the front seats? Trust me I'm all about sci-fi and action and really I am willing to supsend belief on a lot of special effects and things along those lines, but you jump into a machine that all of sudden starts transforming around you I'm thinking it might be a little painful...ouch...! Even from the old show with the Super Pursuit Mode I remember at the time a lot of people didn't like like, but I kinda dug it. With this new "Attack Mode" (which i like the idea of having) the look they're going with is a little "blah". If it's an attack mode (which is a cool concept) make it look mean.....I'm thinking blue neon lights under the car and low profile tires and dropping the car only about and inch off the ground doesn't look mean......it looks like something that should be cruising down by the "Jersey shore" with music blairing out the windows.......LOL......

Trust me I probably want this show to succeed just as much as NBC wants it too and trust me I know you can't please everyone and they shouldn't have to, but maybe they should try and take a little advice every once in awhile....and referencing "Star Trek" TNG you make a good point. I personally liked TNG right off the bat, and it took some people a little time come around (one thing I never did like was the whole saucer seperation thing - what was up with that? - of course they only used a handful of times). To tell you the truth I'm looking forward to the newist incarnation of the original Star Trek coming out next year to see what they've done with it. Being different can be good, but if it's too different then well it's not really the same show anymore and they should just name it something else (i.e. Knight Rider 2010) what a mess that thing was. As for the new show I'm really excited for it to come out and I hope it's great!

Oh and you're totally right about having the right time-slot that can either make or break a show right off the bat.
Atol
I think they should of left the transforming out and use the nano tech. Be limited in car Changes. Like Keep the Size and spec basicly the same.

I used to love the old knight rider series when I was a kid. Nbc thank you for the new series. I have a few problems with the body of kitt. I really do believe they really do need to change his voice and make him have a human personailty. They should make a villain car too that would be awesome like someone copied kitt's programing and made another car like him but a nissan 350z instead. I can't wait for the show to come out.
smallhands
My husband is a huge fan of the previous Knight Rider. When we saw the previews he said that, this version seems unrealistic and cheesy.

I tend to agree. I watched the two hour special last spring and I enjoyed it. During the special, it shows that the car can change color and so forth, and that was on the boundaries of stretching it for me. But, now the car can shape shift and become a truck? That's too much for me.

I never watched the original, but what I sensed is that the car is amazing and can do amazing stuff, but what the new writers are suggesting might be too amazing.
soapfever
I love the car and new guy.I hope it fares better than the Bionic Woman.

I just heard that there is a good chance that David Hasselhoff and the original KITT will be back from time to time in the new series. I think this is the smartest thing that NBC could possibly do. Please, NBC, work it out so that this happens with both David Hasselhoff and with William Daniels supplying the voice for the original KITT. You will make so many fans of the show happy. It has to be both....not one or the other. Just think of the amazing storylines that would be possible with both the new cast/new KITT along with some original characters and the original KITT that we all grew up with! Talk about a successful show that EVERYONE will be talking about. Spare no expense....make it happen! You won't be sorry!

I am a fan of the original Knight Rider A very Big Fan i have all four seasons on DVD i was so glad to hear it was coming back on the air I love the new car i like the new Voice the transformations I do not like you have to get with the times though. Can not wait to see the new show

Just some thought I have about the new Kight Rider series...

- Hope this show isn't as cheesy as Team Knight Rider (I mean seriously......WTF!). <----- blink.gif
- Action...Suspence...Action. I understand there will be drama, I just hope not too much.
- Would be nice to keep Val Kilmer as the voice of KITT.
- While the Mustang looks pretty sweet, I know the new Camaro would look even sweeter.
- Would also be nice if Michael Bay filmed the series (a man can dream, right), hmmm what about him filming the movie?????

That would be one hell of a showdown. ohmy.gif

the first New show that showed online on sept 17,2008 i really didnt like it ... look like a james bound kind of show. wasa great story line but ... could been better when knightrider said it was comming back to tv i also thought the order car was going to come back with the org kitt ... would of been better with kitt Org Voice. but sinse i seen the show and the 2 hour movie befor that i was happy to keep things change for the better. who knows things can only get better not worse right?... anyhow keep it Rocking Knightrider.

I have Comcast and just saw the preview! I want to give my two cents of what I like, hate, and expect to see if Im going to continue to watch!! First what I Like the new "HAL" type red eye on the dash. Its better that the voice wave thing that was on the movie. However I Miss the old school Red Bar voice box from the original KITT. Id rather see an updated version of the Red Bar voice box incorporated somehow rather than ANYTHING else but if I have to take it I like the new Red Eye.
I love the incorporation of some of the Old School sound Fx. Particularly the "Woo Woo". Would Love to see more updated incorporations of the old school sound Fx. I feel they missed an awesome opportunity to do so with "Turbo Boost". I hope in the future more old school SFx are incorporated!! I truely feel it helps make the jump to the new show much more easier for loyal fans of the classic!
I Hate the shape shifting. It looked way to CGI on the movie and in general pushes the believability of the new KITT. At least in the new show its a bit more "Transformer-sh" when it happens and I do like that but transforming into a truck?? If the want to use it for "Super Pursuit Mode" when KITT gets his hood scoops and large airfoil then cool. But a truck? I hope this ability is lost and lost quick. If not I hope it is Rarely used!!
I Hated in the Movie that KITT was so Easily disabled by a computer Virus. Bull!! Did FLAG forget to install Norton? Please, Im expecting the worlds most advanced AI would have a bit better protection than that!
Ok this is getting long so Ill sum up here. What will it take to keep me watching the show? The incorporation of some more Old School classic show elements like I suggested above, I wouldnt mind seeing a returning vilan from time to time (anyone remember KARR or Goliath smile.gif , keep the action high and the love story low and of course I need to see the Hoff from time to time!!!! Thanks all for reading and listening!!

I didn't have great hopes for this show to begin with but I gave it a shot. It is quite possibly the biggest piece of crap on television! Hot chicks and hot cars but absolutely no substance. To top it off they use the whole Iraq conflict as a crutch to make up for a lack of talented writers. Give me a break! You people have ****-canned much better shows, i.e Bionic Woman, this one should have never made it this far. Even the original wasn't this hokey.

Ok, don't know how my post got put somewhere else!

Anyways....

Man, why can't they get things right? I thought they were going to make it more serious than the movie yet I think it was worse it some aspects. Seriously, twenty-something years since the original and we still have a cheesy show with no plot and bad acting. I loved the original but we've come a long way in the production area.

I think they should have went darker with the whole show. Its worked for shows like Battlestar G. Lost, Heroes, etc. Instead I felt like I was watching a student project with someone's house music mix on repeat. Sorry, but I think I will pass on this one. Later KR!

I would love to see them handle things such as the current culture of corruption in Washington, D.C.

I think they are leaning that way, but more so with the military. That FBI agent guy knows something about Michael's past and he wants to keep it a secret.

And I do agree with a lot of the posters here, the new "battle/pursuit" mode is just way too over board. I liked the TV movie version a lot better. The movie version at least tried to keep it on a more realistic level. The truck mode was unique IMO. But it might be because I like trucks just as much tongue.gif

Also side note, I think they need to slow it down a bit on the story line. The premier episode went a bit too fast.

Ditch the transformers aspect, get more into the nano technology, slow down the break neck pace, hire a descent director, lose the high tech hideout and army of programmers walking around, and focus more on Michael and KITT solving mysteries and we could have a winner here.

I was very disappointed but it looks like they have a very very very very basic idea of how to make the show work. Knight Rider works when Mike and KITT are working together to solve a mystery. Plus HI, lets make them a LITTLE more incognito (truck driving down a railway, *cough*).

Knight Rider returns to television, but this time kicked into overdrive! Check out the show site for more info.

Here's a reply: the show was a P.O.S.

There was no kicking into overdrive with that episode, just alot of plot twists after plot twists and over exaggerated scenes.

i was really excited after seeing the movie and hoping nbc was going to pick this up as a series. I was fine with the new look, and the new tech. Also thought the dialogue was pretty good, the acting/writing was decent. The special effects were good as well. However, after watching the first episode last night, unless drastic changes are made, this show is going to bomb miserably.

The first problem is the whole transforming thing. I was ok with "Attack mode". But now the whole truck thing? and even worse, transforming WHILE they are in the car, and moving them from teh back to the front.. then they just pop up from the bottom? come on...You have to wonder which marketing exec over @ ford thought it would be a good idea to have Kitt be able to transform into any Ford model. Can wait to see Kitt as an explorer.

Im not longing for the old show. I watch a wide array of television, but this show is just trying to do WAY too much, especially for a first episode. It started out like mission impossible, then turned into the transformers for a while, and then it morphed into the bourne series.

Heres a few suggestions. Dont go crazy overboard trying to make it something its not. Add something new to kitt that makes it so Kitt cant transform anymore(gives an excuse to can that idea). Slow down the pace and dont try to cram 10 things into 1 episode. Stop making the show into a 40 minute Ford advertisement. This show likely wont make it past midseason unfortunately. ITs too bad because it has alot of potential.

New to Knight Rider

I never watched the original Knight Rider, but made a point to catch the premiere movie because of the star Justin Bruening , (who I was a fan of in All My Children). I was so happy to see that the show was picked up, and I think it is a very entertaining program, and will continue to watch and enjoy every week.

Knight Rider 2008

September 24, 2008, K.I.T.T and Mike Knight return to the small screen to less than excited audience. The new K.I.T.T. had a great review from the 2-hour movie but the return to the series pushed it over the edge. The nano technology is a great concept but turning the Mustang into the Explore truck was far too much. K.I.T.T.’s new A.I. system that allows the vehicle to “learn and adapt” is great for the story line. The new Mustang should be left to just that. The street mode and battle mode are perfect for the story. If the car can change into a truck it can change into any vehicle. K.I.T.T. could lose his identity quickly with this new found “program”.

The entire back ground into Mike Knight and his history in the Middle East is a great storyline for the show. It gives the show a real modern day feel and leave many possible storylines. The season premier left people wondering what kind of government operation was used to erase Mike’s memory? What kind of black ops was he involved in?

Overall I feel the show has great possibilities. I think the writers are on the right track but need to keep to some of the show basics. The TV movie did a great job of showing off the car in a good storyline. The introduction of so many characters in the first show was a bit much. We need to get to know our hero’s before we’re overwhelmed with supporting cast. Car chases will not work with the new K.I.T.T. you’ve established the Mustang is able to achieve 377 MPH no other automobile will be able to outrun the car. The writers need to remember what they’ve shown us and keep the story in context. (The car chase in the season premier was weak)

I think it was pretty good. Lets face it for a 1 hour pilot it was pretty good. Give the show a year to develop and the writers will learn to slow down and stick to the main story. Lets face it, it was setting up for the long run. Its nice to know that there will be an on-goin plot along with a weekly plot. In essence it was a car show which is what I expected. Car shows aren't known for great acting or solid plot lines. Car shows are action and adventure with hot women, hot cars, chase scenes and special effects. Keep it around and don't ask more of it than should be asked of any car show.

I have been looking forward to the new show for a few years now since I first heard rumors....I have never been so disappointed in my life. For a number of reasons: poor cinematography, terrible special effects, nearly pornographic, and poor plot.

It is hard to critique the plot much at this point, because it is just starting to develop. What I don't like is that it's a huge FBI operation with way too many players, rather than the small Foundation for Law and Government.

Even my wife mocked the terrible camera work. She said it looked like the old videos my friends and I used to make back in high school.

My biggest beef at this point is the TERRIBLE special effects. Did someone forget to render the textures? I have 10 year old video games with better special effects. Most of the shots of KITT were mostly gradient vectors. They looked like what you see on a DVD's Bonus Features that show you how they make the special effects. They were terrible. STOP TRYING TO BE WANNA BE TRANSFORMERS. Get away from computer generated effects if you aren't going to do them right! The special effects from the original series looked better than this.

My only big complaints with KITT is that he is so mono-tone. Let him get a little excited and show some personallity. He doesn't have to be SO calm, cool, and collected, ALL the time. Also, his voice visualizer. It's different. It's not bad, except it needs to be more exaggerated. When KITT talks it really doesn't move or do all that much.

Oh, and what is up with the James Bond music? Come on! This is Knight Rider.

There are some things I thought were improved from the movie. The opening theme song is better. Turbo boost was attempted (just work on the effects). I'm glad he's changed his name to Michael Knight. The scanner sound effects (a must!).

I'll give this show another 2 weeks. If it doesn't get better, I will go back to my other shows. There's plenty of good shows on TV right, and I've got my Knight Rider DVD's to reminisce with.
