Mindy says that “the audience will be satisfied” with how much they see Toby and Ryan next season. “We haven't seen the last of Toby,” she tells us.
Bailey08
Can you give us any hints on what we might expect for the upcoming season?

I would, but I’d probably be fired. (Laughs). There’s going to be -- and I like many Americans, when I saw Jim almost propose to Pam at the end of the finale, I was so upset. My own mother was like, “I cannot believe that you guys pulled the rug out from under us like that.” So people who are annoyed about that or just want to see some resolution with that or some movement with that are going to be very happy. You don’t have to wait too long to find out. And Amy Ryan will be back, who’s amazing, so it’s going to be such a good season, I think.

Since she writes for the award-winning sitcom in addition to performing, she’s eager to soak up some Scranton atmosphere while she’s here.

“I’m looking for places Jim and Pam (the show’s cute couple, as opposed to its frightening pairs) can go on dates,” she said.

Episode 1 is discussed on Officetally

It's called "Weight Loss," it's an hour long, and written by Lee and Gene.

More below and on Officetally.
QUOTE
Jen:And actually, for the first time ever, we’re going to see what happens over the summer.
You know how we usually jump forward in terms of the documentary and we skip a gap? We’re going to see the summer. Every act is a different week. So the first episode will be eight weeks long. It’s week 1 of the summer, week 2 of the summer, week 3, week 4, week 5, week 6, week 7, week 8.

And it’s weight loss. It’s a group weight loss competition. They’re competing against other branches in a weight loss challenge. And we’re going to check in with them. So instead of our traditional …
tanster: What?! Wait, wait, are you tell me a storyline?
Jen (laughing): Yeah. It’s going to be super fun. And very office-relatable. A lot of offices go through weight loss challenges.

Jen (to Mike): I was just telling tanster about Summer and the fact that it’s going to be an 8-week episode, and that it’s about weight loss.

Mike: Oooh. Look at you spoiler spoilery spoiling.

tanster: Is this episode called “Weight Loss”?

Jen: It’s between being called “Weight Loss” and “Summer.” My guess is it’s going to be called “Weight Loss.” Because later, when you think back, what was that episode, if we name it ‘Summer,’ it won’t make as much sense.

tanster: Are there six acts?

Mike: Eight if you include the cold open and the tag.

Jen: And right now, the tag is more of a traditional tag, so most of the focus is on the first seven weeks. And the cold open is a regular-sized one.

tanster: Is it going to be apparent to the audience that it’s a week per act?

Jen: Yes.

Not surprising, but in an interview with Officetally, it is revealed that Michael makes the office throw a baby shower for Jan's baby, which isn't his.

Casting News from Ausiello:

Exclusive: 'Mad Men' Star Poached by 'The Office'

Aug 4, 2008, 04:59 PM | by Michael Ausiello

Rich Sommer is going from a work environment rife with sexual harassment, gender bias, racial discrimination and lewd conduct, to a work environment rife with, well, sexual harassment, gender bias, racial discrimination and lewd conduct. The only difference now? It's 2008, not 1962.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that Sommer, who plays Mad Men's bespectacled and bow-tied ad exec Harry Crane, has put in for a (temporary) transfer to the Scranton branch of Dunder-Mifflin. In other words, he's guest starring in an episode of The Office.

Details about Sommer's role are being closely guarded—an Office insider would only reveal that his character "ties in with a surprise twist"—but this much I can tell you: He'll turn up in the comedy's Sept. 25 season premiere.

Reaction to this clever interoffice crossover? Theories as to who Sommer might be playing? Share with the class below!

Have you heard anything Office-related lately? I'm dying for Dunder-Mifflin gossip, especially romance story type stuff -Krissy
What I'm hearing is that the season premiere will feature two love triangles: Dwight-Angela-Andy and Jan-Michael-Holly (Amy Ryan, the new HR lady). My money's on Dwight winning Angela's heart, simply because he has several science fiction type powers working in his favor. And I've got to give Jan my vote in the latter face off, only because she kind of scares me.

As for everyone's favorite D-M duo, PB&J -- Pam Beesly and Jim -- word is that we can expect some sort of twist concerning the happy couple. I can't say more -- mostly because I don't know much else -- but I have heard that P is off in the big city, working on her art degree, so maybe distance between the two is a factor? I don't know...

The Official Episode Synopsis:

WEIGHT LOSS
09-25-2008 9:00PM

For the first time, we see what happens over eight weeks of the summer, as a Dunder Mifflin weight loss initiative causes the branch to diet and become obsessed with their weight. Michael (Steve Carell) pursues a friendship with his new HR rep, Holly (Oscar nominee, Amy Ryan). Jim (John Krasinski) misses Pam (Jenna Fischer) who attends art school in New York. Dwight (Rainn Wilson), Andy (Ed Helms) and Angela (Angela Kinsey) attend to unfinished business.
Bailey08
According to Jenna Fisher's blog, they are shooting part of the Halloween Episode today, and working with Stephen Merchant later this week.

More spoilers:

*Jim and Pam to try to make their long distance relationship work, though there will be a number of obstacles in the way. (Though one of those obstacles won't be Lieberstein's Toby. "Toby is less of a threat than the price of gas," joked Lieberstein.)
*a robbery in the office
*ethics training
*a Halloween episode directed by original series co-creator Steven Merchant. (Also look for Juno helmer Jason Reitman to direct an episode later this season and for Lieberstein to direct a few installments as well.)
*Ryan: last seen getting arrested on fraud charges, don't count him out just yet. "He'll spring back up in a way that is typical for people who can spin anything," said Lieberstein, cryptically.
*Meanwhile, erstwhile couple Angela and Andy WILL make it to the altar... sort of. "[They] will make it to an altar of sorts but probably not in the way you're thinking," said Lieberstein. "There's a lot of fun coming up in their relationship.
*Toby will eventually return to the familiar confines of Dunder-Mifflin Scranton, according to Lieberstein, due to his "failure to escape," rather than due to Pam.
*And Holly Flax will learn that Kevin isn't, um, mentally handicapped. "She finds out the hard way," joked Ryan.

LET’S GET ETHICAL-- OSCAR NOMINEE AMY RYAN (“GONE BABY GONE”) GUEST STARS— Following Ryan's (B.J. Novak) recent scandal at corporate, Holly (guest star Amy Ryan) must hold a business ethics seminar. Meanwhile, Jim (John Krasinski) makes Dwight (Rainn Wilson) comply with the company's "time theft" policy.

QUOTE
So last season ended with Dwight and Angela, his former flame who is now engaged to Andy, getting frisky in the office while no one was around. What’s going on there, are they back together? What’s the fall out going to be?
Well the situation has been painted. She’s engaged and she’s seeing Dwight on the sly. But I can guarantee you that the poop is going to hit the fan.

Does that mean Dwight and Andy are going to rumble?
Probably, it’s going to be like the Sharks and the Jets.

So besides fighting Andy, what else is in store for Dwight this season?
I’m trying to think about what I can talk about. They really don’t want us to talk about anything. [Pauses] I don’t know man. But I don’t even know what goes on this season; let me put it that way. I have no idea what happens three episodes or 12 episodes from now and I don’t ask. They keep writing me this great stuff and I just show up. So it’s not like I have this great wealth of information like “Oh, Dwight is going to open a florist shop.”

News from the Emmy Parties:

-Brian said that they have shot 9 episodes so far.
-Leslie said they have today off.
-Melora said that Jan is there for a first couple of episodes, then she's gone again, but will be back.

According to a WireImage interview, BJ is leaving today to go to Berlin to shoot the Tarantino movie. (What that means for Ryan, who knows...)

Jenna Fisher Interview:
QUOTE
•The Office's Jenna Fischer talked a little about a topic of great interest to Office fans: the relationship between Jim (John Krasinski) and her character, Pam. "Pam goes away to art school, and it tests their relationship. He's very supportive but she's in a three-month program and with her being in New York, even though it's only two hours away, it causes a bit of a strain. And they have to work through the difficulties of being in a long-distance relationship."

As for their future, she offers a minority opinion. "I think I'm the only person in American who's rooting for Jim and Pam maybe not to be together." She then modified her position a bit. "I think it would be OK for them to end up together, but I would really love to see Pam have an interest in her life outside of the relationship she's in. I feel like so much of her life has revolved around (ex-boyfriend) Roy and now Jim, so I would like to see her come into her own a little bit more."

Family Reunion, Office Style

The Office's Pam Beesly (Jenna Fischer) is about to meet her likely future brothers-in-law. In a late October episode of the NBC comedy, Pam - still studying art in NYC - arranges a Big Apple reunion with boyfriend Jim (John Krasinski) and his look-alike brothers, played by actors Blake Robbins and Tug Coker. "Pam's trying to do whatever she can to show Jim that she's really committed to the relationship," Jenna says. "She hopes this outreach to the family will ingratiate her to the Halperts, but it just goes horribly wrong." The craziest part of shooting the scene? For Jenna, it was just seeing "these people who look just like John Krasinski." Who knew there was that much quirky cuteness to be found?

Since Oscar was more interested in the Nokia's air conditioning than in answering my questions about The Office, I turned to the always lovely Kate Flannery, who agreed to spoil me just slightly: "The first episode, which premieres this Thursday, is called "Weight Loss" and we all had to step on the scale when we filmed it. Everyone could see your weight on a giant monitor, it was like, omigod! I have not eaten since, which is actually why I was able to get into this dress. But yes, there's some interesting Meredith stuff coming up. In this first episode, she has a little bit of a natural disaster. The second episode, called "Business Ethics," is really about Meredith's ethical misconduct... so, yeah, oops."

As for Meredith's coworker, the calm, cool -- some may say mentally slow -- Kevin, his portrayer Brian Baumgartner told me there will be some stirring developments in the Kevin-Holly storyline this week. Will Dunder-Mifflin's new HR lady read Kev's file and realize that his brain actually functions at the same mental level as Michael Scott's? Maybe. But Brian said that no matter what happens, Kevin's hopes of banging her will never die. Perhaps he'll serenade Holly. Word is Kev's band Scrantonicity will soon make an encore appearance on the show.
