Has anyone here ever tried skinny cow products?
Last night I bought a box of their low fat vanilla ice cream sandwiches, because sometimes nothing can satisfy a craving like the thing itself.
I had one last night, and I probably could have been satisfied with half of one. They're very filling and delicious! Perfect for a special treat.

The fat isn't the issue as much as the sugar. How much sugar is in one of those? Sugar = fat in the body.

Remember, also, that some products that are not naturally lowfat, they are only replacing the fat with garbage. You'd honestly be better off having a very small serving of regular, no sugar added ice cream (still has some sugar though, but in most cases it is natural sugar from the milk), or frozen yogurt.

The best thing is to learn how to enjoy healthy food for snacks instead of trying to find fakes of junk, kwim? If it is truly an occasional treat, go with the real thing.

I do agree with what you say- somtimes its best to just have a taste of the real thing.
However, when it comes to ice cream, I notice that anything with full fat really messes up my stomach. Because of this, I try to make my own ice cream (so I know whats going in it), or stick to frozen yogurt or sorbet. You're are right in that the sugar in the skinny cow bars is quite high sad.gif Next time I'll have more to think about when choosing an ice cream treat.

I generally stay away from products advertised as low fat. Fat doesn't make you fat...it's all the sugar and bad carbs that make you fat. Pretty much every "low fat" product replaces that fat with some sort of sugar so that it's still edible. So long as the fat you're consuming is mostly unsaturated (with a little bit of saturated fat, and no transfat) you're fine.

Granted when it comes to ice cream, skinny cow is probably better than regular ice cream and it's good to get "your fix" if you're really craving it.

The amount of added sugar in frozen yogurt or regular ice cream is no different than the skinny cow. The "no sugar added" ice creams contain artificial sweeteners (e.g. sucralose, aspartame) which doesn't really fit with your strategy to avoid fake food. There is no such thing as ice cream that contains only natural milk sugars. They all have added sugars or artificials sweeteners. Nice try though.

LOL...thanks, I know what artificial sweeteners are. I don't recall saying anything about the (no sugar added) ice creams not containing them, either. I said any sugar they contain is natural sugar from milk (still sugar, but not added). I use Splenda and Stevia, and personally I think having ice cream containing Splenda is better than having sugar or low fat ice cream that uses fat subs. I look at an ice cream with Splenda, rather than fat substitutes, as being the better choice. Everybody can make their own judgement calls on that one.

That said, I'd never eat any kind of ice cream myself. Not my thing. I have other vices. I use sweeteners for tea and plain yogurt. I was trying to help someone who does want to eat ice cream, and suggesting what I thought was best. I'm no expert, and I don't claim to be.

Is there a reason you insist on being nasty in every single post you write? If you were trying to rattle me or make me feel foolish, you didn't. It would take somebody I had respect and cared about their opinion to do that, and they wouldn't feel the need to be nasty like that, so, I guess therefore I can't be rattled.

Nice try though.

I love skinny cow stuff. There are also drum sticks (maybe skinny cow) as well that are just as yummy! The Calorie count is fairly low and the taste is still awesome.

I would also like to add, that fat is not what makes us fat. Even the worst fats, trans fats, while being killers, do not make us fat.

Sugar makes us fat. Sugar and fat together make us fat.

So, it doesn't make a lot of sense to me to eat something that has the fat removed, while keeping the sugar.

Everybody has their own opinions as to whether or not they use sweeteners, and there are some sweeteners I would not touch (such as one of your fine examples, aspartame). However, to those who do not have a problem using Splenda (sucralose), then this is the better option for weight loss/control.

It was never about "fake foods" as it was about fake fat.

I don't know much about making ice cream, but if it could be made using skim milk (which I doubt, but I am only guessing?), then that would be one thing. Simply eliminating the fat and replacing it with fillers is not the answer, IM(not so humble)O.

When it comes down to it, it is just not a huge deal, and I hope I didn't make Toni_B feel bad or stupid. That was never my intention in any way. I can be rather blunt and I am going to be more careful to not be that way.
