AMERICA'S GOT TALENT
302
06-24-2008 9:00PM

ALL NEW – Jerry Springer hosts week two of this variety competition series which features a colorful array of hopeful future stars as they compete for a chance to win a one million dollar prize and become the most talented act in America. Celebrity judge panel, David Hasselhoff ("Baywatch"), U.K. TV personality Piers Morgan (“Celebrity Apprentice”) and the queen of rock 'n roll management Sharon Osbourne ("The Osbournes") determine which contestants advance to the “Vegas Callbacks.”

OMG I just watched AGT and saw ELI sing. HE WAS SOOOOOOOOO AMAZING, he gave me chills. If he doesn't make win the show someone PLEASE sign this boy, I'd buy ANYTHING he sings on, he's has amazing talent and yet still seems humble. WAY TH GO ELI< hope to see more of you
kimcf
I didn't realize you can go on America's Got Talent and lip sync to tracks. Looks like the boy band was voted through after dancing and lip syncing. Was a big fan but now looks like it is politics. A talent show should be judged as a live event including music and singing. I'm sure I'm not the only one who noticed this.
mastergemini
ok, i grew up in new orleans and saw these guys perform at jackson square (right by the french quarter) everytime i went to the quarter. they have been doing this routine for over 10 years; as far as i know NO FORMAL TRAINING and they are indeed from da 9th ward (i'm from st. bernard / chalmette).

they are friggin' amazing!!!!!!!!!!

my oldest daughter remembers seeing them at jackson square!

they used to have like 6 guys perform with them and the 'lil' guy (sorry dude) would go back about 20 feet, get a running start (by cafe du monde) and haul a$$ and jump over all 6 guys!!!

so obviously when i saw and recognized them on national friggin' tv, i was sooooo elated and proud that these guys who are from NOTHING and LOST everything are competing for the national attention they so deserve.

there are a lot of talented acts who got the vegas ticket and i am biased, but vote for these guys!!
MusicWoman44
Absolutely a wonderful performance. WOW
Talk about touching your soul and singing from your heart!! I had goose bumps and tears running down my face. Just Fantastic and can't wait to see more from this young man. Tyoung, Sandston, VA
brat7265
All I can say is, YOU my dear boy, have taken my heart and made it smile..thank you for the most enjoyable thing I have seen on TV in a very long time. I, like MusicWoman44, had tears and the biggest smile. It was an honor to hear you sing smile.gif The Brat

THE PENDRAGONS !!!! Are you serious??? they've been on TV and performed in front of presidents and royalty... this is for people trying to make it not famous people in fear of becoming hasbeens!!! maybe they should try Celebrity circus !!!
Kharie
I thought this show was for amatures? The pendragons are not amaturs. Do a google search on Jonathan pendragon & you will see. He is even in the Wikipedia.
Am I wrong about it being just for amatures?

thanks
heathercorn
Does NBC think we are stupid?!?! The Pendragons are already a famous performing duo. Not only are the revered in the magician community, but are in the guinness book of world records, and appeared on an NBC show in the past. Check out this article, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pendragons#Accident. So much for an amateur talent show, I smell a couple of ringers.
KajunKowboy
I have to echo those sentiments about the Pendragons. My first reaction to hearing their names was "Wait a minute, I remember a magic duo from back in the 80s (when I remember watching them on TV) called the Pendragons." Sure enough, there they were with their signature illusion. On one hand it was good seeing them do what they've been doing all these years. But even more, on the other hand, I was disappointed that these professionals who have been on TV numerous times over the years (including NBC) would be allowed to compete alongside amateurs. This is not a show for them, this show is for those chasing their dreams to get a taste of the success the Pendragons have already tasted. Its kind of like allowing professional athletes to compete in the Olympic Games (but we won't open THAT wound up).

I've enjoyed the Pendragons over the years and do not begrudge them for making a television appearance. They are true pioneers of illusion and magic, and they've had an incredible career. But I do fault NBC for breaking the spirit and intent of this competition by allowing them to compete. Stick to the amateurs...that stage belongs to them!
every1sacritic
I was disappointed to see The Pendragons performing among the other talented amateurs who were trying for their big break. As other posters have stated, they have been performing professionally for over 25 years and at one time held the world record for the fastest Metamorphisis - the item they performed tonight. Their skill is undeniable, but their status should make them ineligible.

Perhaps giving acts such as Nothin But Strings an opportunity for exposure is justifiable, but bringing an act such as The Pendragons out as if they are "new/undiscovered" talent is terribly misleading.

They are talented, well recognized among professional magicians, members of The Magic Castle and far from the type of act that I believe should be showcased in a "contest" such as this.

There were several acts tonight that deserve the opportunity to gain wider visibility, and a chance (a FIRST chance) at their big break.

C'mon Jonathan, give the new talent a break, you've had your turn in the Vegas spotlight.

Anyone know the title/artist of the song that was playing at the end of the boy group that "sang" bye bye bye? Thanks in advance.
kryptopyro13
I bet NBC hired them so they could have a good magic act this year...
Virginiacp
The man who sang and played the keyboards with the song "Goin to Memphis" ( I think that was the name of the song.) was marvelous. He is the man that Sharon Osbourne said she didnt belive that no one had signed him up to a recording contract, ect. The man who sang the opera song was equally as good, though they sang completety diffeent styles. kaitlyn was very cute and had a cute vioce, but is not polished enough to win this competition. There was a five year old little girl a season or two ago who sang "Over the Rainbow." She was a better singer than this little girl. But then. kaitlyn is only four years old. She just needs some more training. the prize should go to the more polished performers. he four black guys who sang "Bye, Bye, Bye, were very good. But I think the prize should go to either the man who sang "Gion To Memphis" of the man who sang the beautiful opera song. Can't remember the name of the opera song. But Sharon Osbourne said she loved that song.

The crazy thing about Eli is that that isn't even the best I've ever heard him sing. He's even more amazing in person than on tv. I'm soooo ecstatic for him....................
Phenomener
I always enjoyed all shows and never really had a chance to say anything to anyone about my thoughts on the show and ima have to say...I WANA BE ON THE SHOW!!!!!!!!!!
dce_dude
OK....I have a question for whoever....

I was unser the impression that "America's Got Talent" was about finding new talent in America.

On tonight's show you had the Pendragon's audition on the show. They are a professional illusionist group that has been in NBC before on other magic shows (including one where the lady had a "wardrobe malfunction" at the end of the same trick they did tonight..William Shatner was the host).

If you are going to be fair about things on this show, do not have former starts or professionals try out for the show. To me, the Pendragons had their chance. It is too bad abuot their accident with the arrow...but "America's Got Talent" is no place to make a comeback.
EddyTweed
Tonight's Show was better than last week! So many surprises! My favorite were the magicians. I just looked it up and they are The PenDragons! It was so cool after all the other magic acts didn't do well. I hope they and Derrick Berry go far. I like the little girl Kaitlyn too and the opera singer. But tonights show, The Pendragons were easily the winner!
BioBear
So when has this been allowed? I mean I know Jonathan had a horrible accident with that arrow, but I wonder why he and his wife chose to use AGT for their triumphant return. I mean these two have been featured on many shows, at many galas, and not to mention won awards in the early 90s for their act.

Think I am blowing smoke?

MY guess for their next illusion

All I am saying is that I wonder if AGT Producers called them up and said "Hey you interested in a guaranteed TV Spot until the voting starts? Heck if you win you get a mill and a show on the strip."

That's my rant. GO PENDRAGONS!!! By far, proven the most talented.

Oh, yeah!!! I loved him also, the piano player! Yes, Kaitlyn needs more work. But, I still loved The Pendragons! I have played their tape over and over and over tonight and can't figure out how they do their magic. Look it up and keep playing it.

What other magicians? The bad ones that couldn't produce a dove or hold onto a ball right? Or how about that disaster with the bra? I haven't heard of the Pendragons until tonight!!!! So I am happy our generation gets to see them. Thank you NBC!
Daniellism
The act I think was Hasselhof's favorite were those dancing cowboys. That was different. I liked them also. The girl on the pole jumping up and down as also good. The magicians? What's the big deal? Didn't you guys hear? He was stabbed through the heart with a sword and came back to life! Who does that? Only a magician. So he is on the show to prove he is still as great as he was before he was hurt. I think they were great. Standing ovation and everything! The Pendragons will be moving up with the best acts.

I'm sorry but I have to agree with the bulk of the people who feel that it is wrong for The Pendragons to be on the show. And what are you talking about "generation"? I just turned 24 (certainly not old) and I have known who The Pendragons were since I was little. They are hugely famous so if you didn't know who they are, you must live under a rock. Either way... if you like them and were happy to get to see them, that's great but they didn't need to be on AGT to do that. They could have come out with thier own TV special and anyone would have been glad to do that for them. I personally feel a little loss of respect for them... it's like stealing candy from a baby. It's sad that they would stoop so low as to take time away from people who are just trying to break out and follow there dreams.
Yippee
OK so now I have a really dumb question for America's Got Talent. It has been my impression that the talent that is showcased are amateurs looking for their big break. Last night's episode (6/24/08) had a magic act performed by a husband and wife known as the Pendragons. Jonathan Pengragon went on to tell his story about practicing an illusion and getting an arrow in his heart. Well, my point is that the Pendragons are professionals and have been showcased on many television shows and specials. They rank up there along with David Copperfield and other known illusionists. So my point is.....why are they going to Las Vegas when they are already a known commodity and taking up space for someone who could really use the chance.

I totally agree. this show is more concerned with being politically correct than showing real talent. They just copied any other boy band and didn't even sing. Give me a break already!!!
BrittanyAnn
Was the boy band lip syncing? I've been searching around trying to figure that out. What I found was others confused too:Pop Culture Kitty

Either way, I was put off by what an exact copy they did of N Sync. If they want to succeed, they need to find their own identity.
Calicat40
Seriously? The Pendragons? They have played recently for President Bush, see their website. Isn't the premise of this show to be for amateurs and/or unknowns? see wikipedia: The show concept can be traced back to the British talent contest Opportunity Knocks, which started as a radio programme in 1949 before moving to television in 1956. Among its significant features were that it gave an opportunity to talented amateurs or unknown performers, with the results decided by a public vote

The Pendragons have already played Vegas, I for one would like to lodge a formal complaint with the studio as soon as I can find a number. Seriously, the Pendragons? Seriously disgusted by this ploy from the execs. They think America is stupid.
Calicat40
Ditto to the above question. How can you justify having professionals on this show when the entire premise is to discover "new talent"?
Mangifrom
I don't think the show would ever allow lip syncing! I think they were on for dancing anyway. I liked that exploding girl. She was pretty funny. The magicians, I haven't heard of them??? If they are so big, why aren't they where Cris Angel is now? Then anyway to the guys not happy with The Pendragons, if you paid attention to the show and what the judges said, The Pendragons were on because he had an arrow go through his heart, died and came back to live. So this is his second life, starting on America's Got Talent.

I went back on my player and watched the Pendragons and again, the reason they are on the show is because an arrow or something went throw his heart and he died. He came back to life, I looked it up on Wikipedia and now he is making a new career starting on America's Got Talent show. Anyway, I have never heard of them until last night. i was happy to see their act and can see why they will be staying in the show.
Matt71
So Michael Jackson can audition too right? His career is pretty much dead. Having not heard of the Pendragons only means you are young, not that they are not famous. His accident might have wiped out their savings, but it surely didn't wipe out their fame or notoriety. They can easily get work in Vegas if they wanted it. I'm convinced this is just a publicity stunt to introduce them to a new generation.
hfbond
If you perform a search on the internet for the magic act of the Pendragon's you will see that they are already professionals and have appeared in front of several presidents, other famous magicians, and have had appearances in over 50 countries. Not to mention that they have already appeared in Las Vegas.

Yet on Tuesday nights show they tried out for Americas Got Talent. They were accepted and now go on to Las Vegas. How can this show accept try outs from professionals? Isn't the purpose to find new undiscovered talent?

What's next... are they going to let Michael Jackson tryout also?
TheNWord
Wow. You really ought to check out their bios on their website: TheTaublFamily.com

Yale, Julliard... Looks like they are a very accomplished family. I wasn't overwhelmed by their performance, but am looking forward to seeing a lot more of them after reading about them.
Calicat40
I agree with the other posts. What next? Michael Jackson? Britney Spears' career is in the toilet, lets get her to audition or how about Milli Vanilli? Here is an excerpt from Wikipedia:

Charlotte was the first woman to receive "The Magician of the Year Award" from the Academy of Magical Arts (The Magic Castle) in the USA. Together The Pendragons have won the prestigious award twice, a feat that only four other living magicians have accomplished. In 1991, Charlotte Pendragon became the first woman to become a Member of the Inner Circle of the British Magic Circle. Jonathan was chosen by Magic magazine, as one of ten living magicians whose work shaped magic in the 20th and 21st centuries.

Do you really, honestly think they need this show to get their career back and going? I dont. I would love to hear what other professional magicians are saying about these two ringers right now. Im betting it isnt nice. They're taking space up that belongs to someone else who is truly a new talent or an amateur. And if they think they need this show to springboard their act then to me, that's pretty sad. They are better than that.

I agree with you. I saw him do a whole Elvis show last year and he awesome. He was holding back some of his Elvis actions and talk either from nervousness or afraid to let go yet and seen as corny. He can talk walk and sing just like Elvis he can get you in the Elvis mood. He has only been doing Elvis for two years he says on his web sight, erosoftheking.com. I felt like Sharon when I saw him perform in person.
Mollykat66
When I first heard this young man I was impressed! I am going to continue to watch him. I look forward to hearing more of this young man. He is great. He has such a unique sound and the greatest eyes! wub.gif
Calicat40
yeah, he could pretty much just stand there and I'd be happy to vote him through. I think Piers really liked the dancing cowboy group too. (maybe a little too much if you know what I mean wink wink)
star_momma
Unless I'm much mistaken, the "disaster" with the bra actually part of her act - I think she was really going more for comedy than magic from what I saw.

I'm not gonna lie, I was excited because I knew one of the rejected performers - Bizarro! I was glad he was up there doing his locally famous flaming crotch routine. lol He actually performed at the Casket Races for our local hearse club a few years back, and it was great fun. He may not've made it onto the show, but he's a fine guy and a really excellent performer.

In case anybody's interested, you can find his site at http://smappdooda.com/ smile.gif
dce_dude
Sp how about an offical response here from NBC on the Pendragons? Why are they allowed to be on the show and continue on? Are they some sort of plant by NBC? Disallow them and let some other unkonwn act get in instead...they have been doing the same illusion for many many years...see the other posts sad.gif
Donald_C
Why were the Pendragons allowed to compete in this show?

Although I have the greatest admiration for them, they have already had their time to shine. They have performed for Presidents and the Queen of England and have received many awards. They are also in the Guinness Book of World Records for the fastest illusion. The very illusion they performed on the show. Go to http://www.thependragons.net/home.html to see all that they have already accomplished.

I thought this show was for those with talent aspiring to "make it big". I feel they are taking away from someone who has never been "discovered". They've had their turn, now let someone else have theirs. If they want a contract in Las Vegas, all they have to do is show up.
Bowler900
How does an act like the Pendragons get on this show. Don't get me wrong - they're great - but they're professionals and have been for years. I thought this show was for amatuers???
Calicat40
So JD when is NBC going to answer the question that seems to be burning these boards up? lol
Kayped
On the last show I saw, they introduced the judges, and when they introduced Sharon, they played a song called "She". Who sang it??

If you go to the NBC website: http://www.nbc.com/Americas_Got_Talent/

You will find clips and recaps...the entire episode is not legally available online however.

I was curious as to why a professional act that has already had a contract before in Vegas be allowed to compete in the show. The illusionist team the "Pendragons" performed in Vegas and had a contract at Caesars Palace for Caesars Magical Empire. I saw the same performance their that they used on stage. Professionals see to make the show a little unrealistic.

Question for Panel,

I thought America's got Talent was intended for new talent vs old professional talents. The Pendragons are a world renowned magic act. Should not be allowd to compete against a field of new talent. The pendragons have been around for at leat 25 years.
Beatles_Lover
Hi, everyone!

I've been watching America's Got Talent since season one (Yeah, Bianca!!) and have enjoyed it's counter part, BGT, as well! Actually, I cannot take credit, at all. It was my husband who introduced me to AGT and my best friend who introduced me to BGT! biggrin.gif

However, I fell in love with Cas, Terry and Butterscotch last year!!

This year, so far, of course.... I have a couple of favorites.

One of which, is Eli Mattson.

I'm just wondering (before Vegas)... what everyone's thoughts are with regard to Eli.

I do believe that we have a Cas Haley in Eli.... that could, simply, be me.

Btw... some of my other favorites are Neal E. Boyd, Jessica Price & little David... but who could say "no" to that little one, really?! I also ADORED the Southern Belles!!!

Anyway, I'm just wondering other thoughts on Eli Mattson, in general! smile.gif

Peace & Cheers, everyone! smile.gif

LOL, First of all If you were to ask Cris Angel Who his Influences were when starting i am sure he would say the Pendragons! They were already were Cris Angel is, they are pioneers of the Magic Industry. If you know anything about Majic you know of them, they have won Magican of the year 2 times, which very few have every done and she was the first Lady to ever win that title.

Second, let's clear this up, he did not Die and come back to life. he had a very bad accident and recovered, this was back in 2006.

Now i love the Pendragons and have folowed them since i was little, they are among the greatest Magicians Ever, but i HAVE TO AGREE, they in no way should be on this show!!

I actualy lost some respect for them, that they would come on this show and take a spot away from someone trying to make it, when they are already made it and are in Legendary status.

Not sure what NBC is trying to do having them on, they know who they are they produced many of the 14 TV specials they were on!
