I was wondering if anyone knows the minimum age for being on the show? I was looking on the Website and didn't see any information on that and how to sign up. While on that thread what are the cities for auditions?

It used to be done at a really nice ranch in California. Now it looks like its done in the backlot of NBC studios.

Someone said in a post on another thread that it was in Hawaii for Season 5 and that it would be in the L.A. area for Season 6. I'm not sure what topic it was under but it was something about Season 6 and casting couples again. Hope that helps.

I was told it was done at a ranch that Bob Hope owned at one time. I understand that you can take tours of it also. MASH was filmed there as well as How Green Was My Valley. It is in Malibu California and the name of the park is Malibu Creek State Park. Or at least this is what I was told by one of the people on the show. I was also told by them that the park is open to the public, and you can take tours and see the people working out on the ranch, however you can not talk to them or get near them during their time on the ranch.

No. I don't think season 5 was in Hawaii. This show is done on the cheap side and Hawaii would have been out of the question....production costs would have been higher in Hawaii than the backlot of the studios.

OMG don't I feel stupid!
I couldn't find the post that said Malibu, but I guess I had Maui in my head! (You just take out the "b" and rearrange the letters a bit after all!) Because that's where I'm going after I graduate in July! LOL
SOOOOOO sorry about that! I didn't mean to spread false rumors. I didn't think the set looked like Hawaii on Tuesday night's episode.....

I remembered seeing people in the background of one of the challenges. I think it might have been the initial one with the balloons.. I wondered where they were doing it that there were bystanders. They were just in the background. It only struck me at the time, because it wasn't typical of previous seasons. I also had wondered where this season's was being shot.

It already exists.. Although they don't make it easy..
You can get to it if you go to the nbc.com site..and click on The Biggest Loser. You can also get to it from the season 4 site. There is a promo ad there and it will take you to the season's main page..
or try this link..and bookmark it.

First, if you want to insert a photo into a post, it has to be on the internet. You can use a hosting site like Photobucket. Then copy the URL from the image, click on the 'insert image' icon on your post and paste the URL into the box.
PM me if you have any more questions about this, and I can help you.

I was looking at the Million pound club and you have to pay a certain amount to join and then a monthly fee. I was wondering, to be on the tv series do you also pay something or is it free.
Also, does anyone know where the TBL ranch is? The views they show at the beginning and during the show look so peaceful and beautiful. I can see it is in the mountains, or looks that way. Anybody know where?
Thanks

Thanks for the information. I don't know what I was looking under that I saw the fee charge, maybe TBL club.
Anyone know where BL is?
When someone is voted off and they show the after picture of them it usually says it is like 6 months later. How can that be when they are still showing the program. I know it is taped but is it that long ago?? Do they still go home for two to three months and work the program there before the finale?
I know this is a lot of questions but thanks for any information you can give me.

They film it about 6 months or more in advance. Everything you are watching now has been done for months. The finale itself is the only thing that is current to now.

If they could convince the contestants to pay, especially a fee that's comparable to the price of a similar program outside of the TV world that would include food, lodging, electricity, water, gym rental fees, trainer fees, doctor fees, BodyBug service fees, travel expenses, plus a little more just for the Biggest Loser service, it would be a dream come true for the producers and the network.
I imagine most reality / game shows pay very little to contestants as is. If they could turn that around and actually get money from participants, it will make a lot of those dramas and sitcoms look a lot less alluring from a cost effectiveness standpoint. They can either pay actors, writers, etc. to put out a drama or comedy with mediocre ratings, or get the same ratings from a reality show that's inexpensive to create, get massive product placement every episode, plus, have the contestants pay the network for the privilege of being on the show.
NBC should start looking into that. Could give them and producers a great position to hold out on the writer's strike even further, and add leverage on the next actors' union negotiations.

Yes. Although this season is shorter than most, part of the contest is continuing to lose weight on your own for a few months before the finale. I'm not sure how long- Matthew or Hollie might fill us in if they see this thread.

If you mean the theme song at the beginning of the show, it's Proud by Heather Small. It's ben TBL's theme song since season 2.

The campus is in southern California. If it is the same place as last season, then I believe it is in a town called Camarillo, about an hour or so outside of LA.
This season, there is actually significantly less time from taping to airing than there has been in previous seasons, which is why when they do the contestant updates, the transformations might not seem as dramatic as they have in previous seasons. This is actually the first time that they have started airing episodes before they finished filming the season. The episode that aired yesterday was filmed the first week or so of December. The final four only went home about 2 weeks ago. Assuming they don't have any weeks with double elimination or no elimination, the finale should be the last week of March, meaning that the final four will have been at home for just over 2 months. Contrast that to last season, when I think the final four went home in August (someone correct me if I'm wrong on that), meaning they had almost 4 months at home.

For some reason that reminds me of the other seasons.. I could be wrong. The season 2 and 3 house is the one where they just had the Miss USA reality series done. Matt McNutt is credited with the find and for posting it here. I thought it was funny.

Yeah, I know that past seasons were in Simi Valley and that it is no longer there. However, I thought the first season was also in Simi. Was the first season somewhere other than the 2-3 seasons? (I only saw the finale of the first season so am unaware).

I have no clue where the first season was. Coincidentally, it was on all day yesterday on the Style network so I got to see 90% of it. I had to leave the house part way through the finale. I think one or two episodes were skipped but highlights shown as an update.
It is definitely not the house they were in during season 2 and 3.. or if it is they used other entrances.. The house looked totally different to me.
I didn't start watching TBL until midway through the 2nd season.

I don't think that is true. In real time, the episode we just watched was filmed around Christmastime or at least in early to mid Dec...
If you go to the show's mainpage for the season there is a blog by the casting crew.. They mentioned a couple weeks ago that it was Thanksgiving week.. So now it is sometime in Dec. and we know they had to have gone at least several more weeks to get down to the finalists. At that point they hadn't gone to 2 teams and single eliminations yet.
I think the season may have recently wrapped up taping on the ranch. It was mentioned that the 4 finalists were known. But we have no clue who they are... which is good. Don't want to ruin it too much!
Check the blog for possible clues. I would have hoped that those folks could go home for a few days for Christmas.. Maybe that might be why Trent could be struggling(homesick) if they aren't allowing that. He has at least one young child and it would be very hard to be away like that... Also hard on his wife. Sometimes money isn't everything! I'm just speculating though.. But seriously, the blog mentioned during the all against one week that it was Thanksgiving week and that was only 2 weeks ago.

I don't know where season 1 was filmed..but I saw the season 1 that was on all day yesterday on STYLE. It is a house that I don't recognize at all from any of the other seasons. Seasons 2 and 3 were filmed at a ranch. The same ranch that the recent reality show about the Miss America Pageant.. Or was it the Miss USA pageant.. whatever... was filmed at. There is another thread about the BL location.. and someone provided a link to that ranch. The thread also had a satellite pict supposedly of the current ranch.. which is new this season. Supposedly in Malibu. Season 4 was done on part of a college campus. I forgot the name of it.. I think it was an offshoot of a major university.. I'm sure someone will recall the name..

http://blog.nbc.com/biggestloser/BTW, I just think taping and airing overlapped this season which I don't think has ever happened before. Usually the show has wrapped taping before they've started airing. But this is the first season that they've had back to back seasons.. in a short time frame. I am guessing that they are behind airing about 6-8 weeks at the most. They must have started filming near the end of Oct.

Hey all, this is my first post, so go easy on me. I was wondering if the Biggest Loser had an official corporate club or something like it. I work for a mid-sized financial insitution and was thinking about proposing a "Biggest Loser Club" as an internal "contest".
It might be a really exciting way for businesses to encourage their employees to get in shape.
Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone knew of an email address I could send a request to. I just didn't want to get in any legal problems if we used the "BL" name.

Actually, the first book they put out - The Biggest Loser weight loss plan or some title like that (it has Bob on the cover) - actually says to put together your own Biggest Loser contests. So I would say buy a copy of the book so you have that as your back up, since they in effect give everyone permission to do so, and have your contest! Besides, there are literally Biggest Loser clubs and contests in almost every town and city in the country and NBC hasn't told them to cut it out. It's good for the show! : )

carriefalquist

The constestants do get a weekly stipend. It's not a huge amount, but helps to offset the costs of being gone for so long.
Many still have to get loans from family members, or give up their apartments, etc... Because $2000 a month gross income doesn't usually replace someone's entire paycheck.

I taped this weeks show and had to watch it last night.
I went on the site today to see who Dan was going to vote for (figured he still would have picked Mark) - but all the videos on the site seem to not be loading for me.
I figure its a glitch - because if its not available to me (I'm in Canada) - it says so.
But these ones I usually can see - the recaps.
However, its just sitting there trying to load. (Or it says done and doesn't do anything).
Anyone else have this problem?
kpw1956
Feb 14 2008, 04:16 PM
I was eventually able to see some of the clips.. I think there are only 3..
Maybe there is a separate slip about the vote..
There appear to be many glitches at the main page. They should redo alot of things.. Namely make a link from this page back to the current season rather than season 4. If you do a search, you find the main page of season 4 and have to go to season 5 info at the bottom of the page to get to season 5 info..
They have info overlapping between the 2 seasons in the clip area.. Even for the current season.. Or that is what it looked like to me yesterday. Maybe someone is working on it...
But the link in the pict at the top of the page should at the very least go back to the main page of the current season's webpage.
