Full Version: A Noble Gesture from Last Comic Standing

In consideration of the passing of the late great George Carlin, the godfather of stand-up comedy, I think we can all agree that the best thing NBC can do is cancel Last Comic Standing. Let's face it, the show is a farce. It's getting killed in the ratings, it's not about stand-up or comedy and is an embarrassment to both. Most importantly, in the spirit of entropy, cancelation is what George would have wanted.

I respect George Carlin and his comedy. However, he had absolutely nothing to do with Last Comic Standing, so who cares what he would have wanted for the show. It's strange how many people come to the message boards to complain about the show... "I hate this show, but I'm going to loyally keep watching it." If you don't like the show, then watch something else... there's plenty of cookie-cutter crime shows to choose from. Most people at least like a few of the comics on the show, and watching it gives them the opportunity to get a few laughs and relax after a long day.

I agree...if you don't like the show - watch "Saturday Night Live" or maybe one of the other great new reality TV shows like..."Beauty and the Geek"!

Personally...the show pi***s me off sometimes with the judge decisions, but opinions are like a**h***s...everybody's got one!

Only if by "less" you mean "more."

It was nice of them to dedicate the episode to him.

When they dedicated the episode to Carlin, it occurred to me that he might detest the fact that such a terrible episode was dedicated to him.

But then it occurred to me that he'd probably love the fact that they picked an episode that enraged everyone, since that's what he spent his life doing (although Carlin was actually funny when he did it).

Last Comic Standing's dedicating it's show to Carlin is a joke~! LCS is TERRIBLE and produces know nothing Carlin stood for! Which is REAL comedy! All the comcs since season 2 have totally sucked! I don't even watch any more! For the people who sa they are going to keep watching loyally even though it sucks they should be left alone in a deserted island with rerun's of Happy Day's! Theproducers of LCS know nothing of real comedy, and it's evident and the day this show end's up in the gutter will be a happy day in the real comedy world!

I'm not sure what the big deal is. LCS recognized that George Carlin was a great comedian and wanted to pay tribute. You don't need to be a comedian to appreciate another comedian's accomplishments.

The "All the comics since season 2 have totally sucked!" statement is completely ridiculous. There have been hundreds of comedians that have been on the show, and there were plenty of great ones. The final group of ~12 for each season has been somewhat shaky... there definitely were bad ones in the final groups, but there has always been some good (and even some great) comedians in that group, also.

The main problem is that the viewers aren't selecting the comedians that advance. The results would've been pretty good if we were voting at the final 32 instead of the producers/judges selecting who advances, but unfortunately that is not how they setup the show.

This season has been interesting so far--we are only at the picking of the top people--maybe people posting on the boards have never seen this show and don't understand there are lots of shows to follow once the top people are picked...

each season they start by showing us clowns and good and semi good comics with a few really good ones tossed in. Sometimes the "great" comics already have scheduling conflects and cannot "be in a reality show" but they come on and get the free tv time. Who cares who gets on or not--I have watched all 6 seasons--yes, i liked season 2 the best--but I really found that there were comics who got to the house who everyone complained about --only to find out they are and can be really funny.

Paul Foote was really funny if you like english humor-or if you have ever know someone who is funny from England--give him a chance. As for God Pottery-- who knows--maybe NBC has some crazy plan to destroy the duo (LOL) --I guess i'm saying enjoy the show for what it is... because we have to wait till next April for the next group -- so sit back and enjoy what comes. LCS6 is a lot better then NO LCS.

I don't believe that George would have wanted the show cancelled. He would be having too much fun complaining about the horrible choices that the judges have made. He might even suggest taking the judges out and hitting them upside the head 50 or 60 times with a shovel. Then he'd probably have a thing or two to say to the people complaining about the show. Most likely he'd remind everyone that if they don't like Last Comic Standing that they have a remarkable little device sitting next to their beer on the coffee table. One of the buttons turns the TV off and the other one... changes the channel. I can almost hear him telling people that if they don't like it, to change the fxxxxxg channel.

true, George Carlin had nothing to do with Last Comic Standing, he was a comedian. Last Comic Standing has nothing to do with comedy. No he did not approve of this show.

Why are you still arguing over something so inane?
