Talk about Jillian here.

Jillian Michaels is one of the leading health and wellness experts in the country. Perhaps considered one of the most demanding people on television for her role as trainer and life coach on the NBC hit series "The Biggest Loser".

As a motivator and role model, Michaels has a unique connection with her audience that stems from her own personal journey for wellness. Before she was a TV success, Michaels struggled with her own weight. She was determined to reach her goals — and through dedication and hard work she did.

Already a New York Times best-selling author, Jillian is currently working on her third book, which will be released in April 2009. Her DVDs are consistently top-sellers with Amazon, including her most recent DVD, "30-Day Shred," and her website (www.jillianmichaels.com) enjoys tremendous success from people looking to Michaels for her online wellness programs and her Meal Delivery Program.

Michaels can be heard on her weekly two-hour radio health and wellness talk show on Clear Channel KFI AM 640, and she is the official AOL Fitness Coach. She also just completed her video game for the Nintendo Wii, 'Jillian Michaels' Fitness Ultimatum 2009.'

Recently, Michaels launched Empowered Media, LLC with the goal of creating total life solutions for people across all platforms – health, wellness, weight loss and overall lifestyle. Michaels empowers each person she works with to define and reach personal goals, both physical and psychological. Empowered Media allows her to communicate her message of health and wellness to a large audience through different mediums—online community, books, DVDs, gaming, exercise equipment and so on. Her team will be a part of her overall health and wellness brand and will help people to re-structure their lives. The motto: "Inspired by Jillian, empowered by YOU!"

Michaels lives in Los Angeles with her beloved and faithful Chihuahua, Baxter. When she's not on the TV set, she enjoys traveling and getting involved in charitable activities, such as her work as an American Cancer Society Ambassador.

You can listen to the show live by clicking on the link on the page. Her show is on Sundays 9am to 11am (California time). It usually take a couple days for the podcasts to appear on the site. Usually by Tuesday, but due to the holiday, I'd give this week until Wednesday.

I do, but why the unflattering pic of her this season on the banner? I hope they work on that, this is the first bad pic I've ever seen taken of her! Whatever look they were going for, it's a miss. Which is odd, because actually the opening scenes and publicity pics of all the trainers are usually great, maybe that's why it's catching my eye. Please fix, NBC.

It is an unflattering picture of her. She looks really PO'ed about something but you really can't tell about what.

Her podcasts are awesome, I still listen to them...and she dishes on Season 6 in them, too! I can't believe they are free, but I'm happy they are!

Does anyone know where Jillian gets her cool shirts and shorts/capris? I love them!
lightfst
They both wear Free City - sweat pants. Jillian talked about a clothes line on her radio show a while back.
Jillian had an Elvis t-shirt on in one of the Australia episodes. Bob wears alot of vintage t-shirts. Those are the best.
blondfury
Thanks! Can I listen to her radio station online? I guess I could google it!

I love her shirts, that is mainly what I'm looking for. Bob's shirts/shorts are awesome, too!

I don't find them rambling.
She's pretty observant.
After her opening topic she takes calls/answers their questions.

I like the radio show (smarter than anything currently on tv) - besides BL

I guess it's a matter of preference. I love her podcasts...listen to them every week. Most of everything she talks about can be applied to all aspects of your life...not just weight loss, which I think is so cool. I've learned a lot from her shows, and have recommended them to so many people.

I think Jillian is being ridiculous. It is not necessary to scream and yell at people to motivate them. She does not know these people and how far they can go. She is yelling at that guy to stay on the treadmill until he drops dead. Well the dr just said that if he did stay on the treadmill that was an absolute possibility. Wouldn't it have put her in her place if someone did have a heart attack on her watch.

The yelling and obnoxiousness of her attitude is making me not even want to watch, and this is my favorite show.

This is a good problem to have -

I hope jillian has gained a couple pounds. She looked almost too thin - esp. during the weigh in - but it looked like she was wearing skinny punker pants so maybe that's what it was.

and bob always looks good too- exactly the same.

I am totally with you. When Jillian was screaming at the woman in the purple shirt to "Get down there" and trying to stand on her thighs, the venom that was spewing out of her mouth was ABUSE, pure and simple. I was surprised to read in the bio above that Jillian had a weight issue herself, because she shows all of the typical heartlessness of someone who has no idea what it is like to be obese. It is not necessary to be abusive to someone who is fat--an overweight person does enough of that to themselves. They don't need it from someone who is trying to "help" them. I'm not saying that Jillian should coddle the contestants, but being an insulting bully will make the contestants fear her, it won't make them respect her. For crying out loud, these people are on national television, laying open all of their mistakes and vulnerabilities in order to heal and literally save their lives. Way to kick them when they're down, Jillian. Great methodology. A mentor to look up to.

She was pushing them and sometimes you need to be pushed. she wasn't doing it to be abusive - has she killed anyone yet with exercise? If you go to the archives of her radio show - jillian has empathy for those overweight and for all those who have been dealt a tough row to hoe.

It's all about the editing and what the producers want you to think and to see. Don't be fooled by what you saw last night, Jillian is an amazing mentor to look up to and she cares tremendously about her contestants. I don't think I've ever heard one contestant say a negative thing about her. She doesn't kick these people when they are down...her methodology is to BREAK them down so she can BUILD them up...and obviously from season's past this method works wonders!! I love her tough love approach. She has empathy and compassion for what they are going through, but she doesn't take crap from anyone.
Turner_mom
Jillian scares me and she is tough, but when you see how the contestants have bonded with her and appreciate her I think it is obvious we have missed so much more through editing. The yelling and screaming to get on with it is part of it, but two hours isn't long enough to see what they really do as a package.

I think she reacted to being perceived as the nice one by being too rough. She was always the tougher trainer but the more insightful counselor. She should dial it down a bit. BTW - where's the water? Nobody was drinking any last night!
RedcardL
I'm glad to see it.

I think people have gotten FAR too comfortable with the trainers over the years, and they made more comments than ever about the "real world" and what not and how people view the game and them.

In the condition that these people are in, trainers are NOT there to be your friend. They're there to push you as far as you can go, and then get you that much further. They're there to save your life.

When they pulled yellow aside and said, "I think this is it.." , what they literally meant is , this man is going to die. I would not be surprised in the slightest if they get sent home and he gives up, that he does not (or did not) live to see the finale. That's the level of people we are dealing with in this season.

I'm glad Jillian got to show some of her true colors. Ask anyone who has read her book or who does her DVDs, and they'll tell you outright that Jillian on TBL is not Jillian in her books, or Jillian in her DVDs, or Jillian in the website.

And that's good. I'm a bit tired of the buddying up cryfests. The show has given the impression the past two years that if you turn on the waterworks, everyone will give you a big group hug.

Editing has nothing to do with it... that's who Jillian is. She has that boot camp mentality where she thinks she needs to tear a person down to build them back up.

Jillian has moved into a whole new echelon of "mean".

I couldn't believe the way she talked to that man and his daughter. First, yelling at him to only stop when he's dead was completely irresponsible of her. He very well could have dropped dead. Then to tell the daughter to look at her father, and that she can only stop when he's dead?!?

Coming from someone who has lost a parent prematurely, I for one would have slugged her for that comment. There are certain lines you shouldn't cross, no matter what kind of "image" you are trying to portray.

VERY IRRESPONSIBLE, JILLIAN.

AND EVEN MORE IRRESPONSIBLE FOR AIRING IT, NBC.

I know what I saw. No one would dare say anything negative about her, even if they wanted to. Trust me on this--when you are 300andsomething pounds, you are already broken down. She can just start the building part, and skip the dominatrix crap. And she should know that. And whether her method works wonders in the long run remains to be seen. Whether people truly internalize her message because it is meaningful to them or whether they lose weight because she is shrieking in their face like a drill sargeant--only time will tell. I have read stories about contestants already gaining their weight back. Nevertheless, becoming obese is clearly about a lot of issues, one of them being excess food. Excess compassion is never on that list. Okay, Jillian?
Wannahavemuscle
Tough love baby....I played high school and college football, she's as tough if not tougher than any coach I ever had. Watching her try and change peoples lives is inspirational. When you get to "our" point just saying "come on honey, you can do it if you want" really doesn't cut it anymore. I've been through three personal trainers like that, just got her book and DVD. Time for a change, thanks JM

Well, these are people who have either tried everything, or never tried at all. Their lives are at stake. People who are at 300 lbs or more may be broken down, but not enough to change. The contestants watch the show, they know what they are getting into, and they beat out 200,000 other people to get there. Maybe this is the only kind of training they will respond to, because obviously, nothing else has worked.

That being said, I don't think that is not the kind of training for me, and if Jillian swore at me, I would probably tell her to eff off, and get thrown off the show.

And I don't even swear. wink.gif Much.

Edit: No wait, I'd probably cry.

I was still thinking about this thread and wanted to comment again. I really like Jillian and got to thinking people who have reached the point of being obese (myself included) need the kick in the pants. It is why they are there. I had something extreme happen in my life and with out it would not be on my way to loosing my 100+ pounds. If Jillian didn't get them going they would still be eating and making excuses. It is part of the journey.

Jillian has my respect and like I say hold on to every word they say!

When she went to get that duo where I think one is a police officer she asked how she can get a gun... I was laughing and screaming "Don't give that woman a gun!" LOL!! I don't think the contestants would be eating and making excuses if she approached them
differently, look at Bob, his contestants have just as much love and respect for him and I
have never seen him yelling and screaming and jumping on people just for the heck of it.

Obese people tend to be harder on themselves than anyone else. The hatred and self loathing
they heap on themselves is far harsher than anyone else ever does.

Seriously, why does an obese person need to be kicked? Aren't they still humans?
These are people who are struggling with an issue in their life. Unfortunately it's an
issue that has been vilified in this nation so no one has any compassion like they do when
a person has issues with drinking or smoking or does drugs. Overweight people wear their "problem" on the
outside so I think people have a tendency to see their issues, and since it's not chic to be
fat, they obviously have a character flaw, and everyone feels they need a good swift kick.

Honestly I think compassion is far more effective... Richard Simmons has helped millions
of people lose weight and he has always shown compassion as does Bob.

While I don't think Jillian is evil, I do think she tends to go overboard. Face it, the
reality is after the show is over, the likely hood of them (Jillian and the contestants) ever seeing each other is
very slim. She should spend less time beating them and more time educating them
because in the long run, that will prove more effective.

Perhaps so, but.. the overall win-loss records.. and the records of the eliminated players up to the finales, when they are on their own... tends to give me the impression that Jillian knows what she's doing quite well. Her people win, her people do better off show, and her people continue to do well after.

So I think she knows what she's doing quite well.

Anyone hear about this new game for the Nintendo Wii from Jillian? It's called Fitness Ultimatum and looks pretty hot!

I wouldn't mind having Jillian scream at me. For some people, they need that harsh wake-up call to see the light. It must work, I've never heard her contestants say anything poor about her and her contestants always win.

Only problem is you're talking about the competition, I'm talking about the rest of their lives.
Check out some of her former contestants... they still struggle with their weight and
a lot of them have put gained weight, so at the end of the day they need to learn how
to live and maintain in the real world because Jillian isn't going home with any of them.

An anorexic can show you how to take off weight, but the key is learning to keep it off, and
I don't think all that drama has been very effective in helping people do that.

I know some people die and breath Jillian and that's cool, but she is by no means perfect and
any good teacher knows that you never stop learning, and that sometime you need to adjust
your approach.
