You could contact the NBC advertising department about buying a 30-second spot.

Honestly, I don't know who you could call to have your business mentioned in the show. What type of business are you in? What might motivate the writers or the network to mention your business? How would it fit in with the storyline? There are probably hundreds of businesses that would love to be mentioned. That's what advertising is for. smile.gif

Actually, to have a :30 second spot produced for a local business, people need to contact their local NBC affiliate's sales department to get it placed in the breaks around The Office.

But that is something completely different from what is being asked. wink.gif Which, I would say, make contact with TPTB at The Office in some way.

Here's how to do it. Getting your stuff on The Office

If the link is broken, here's the article (from the Scranton Times-Tribune of July 14):
The Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce will host a prop drop between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., Tuesday (July 15) , at the chamber’s 222 Mulberry St. office. The chamber’s liaison to NBC, Mauri Potis, asks businesses to submit logoed items in triplicate with two business cards. Businesses will be asked to sign a legal release to allow their name, logo and items to be used on the show. Set designers are interested in incidental props such as take-out menus from privately owned businesses unique to the region.

Note this event has already occurred. I would assume that contacting the liaison person is your best bet. Also, keep your eyes on The Times-Tribune. I expect they will do this periodically.

I'm from Scranton as well - I heard you can send promotional items to NBC for a chance to get it placed on the show. Not sure how to be mentioned though.

They are missing so many great Scranton things though! Why not a trip to the Steamtown train exhibit or coal mine tour? The Archbald pothole? Pizza is mentioned but not Old Forge... The country clubs... strawberry picking, the wing festival - the baseball team...

Scranton State School for the Deaf

Friday, February 27, 2009, 9:37 pm

The Scranton State School for the Deaf is in desparate need of national attention as the governor of PA is proposing to close it. It has been serving the Deaf community for 129 years and has become the heart of the Deaf community. The staff, community, students, and parents have set up a hotline at www.sssdsos.org gaining hundreds of petition signatures daily. SSSD is set on 10 acres of land in the Green Ridge section of Scranton (home of Vice President Biden) and is very beautiful. More beautiful than the school is every one of the students enrolled there who call themselves "family". They are being robbed of an appropriate education surrounded by a culturally rich environment of American Sign Language. Anything you can do through your show would be greatly appreciated. Thank you:)

I didn't see this until this morning.

Anything related to being hearing-impaired holds a special place for me, because of my oldest daughter. She was born with a severe hearing loss in both ears (for the initiated, it's 50db @ 500 climbing to 95 db @ 5000), and we were told all kinds of scary things about what her life might be like.

Actually, she's doing quite well. She's in her first year of University majoring in History, and lives in a hearing world reasonably well, with a few accommodations. She does sign sometimes but prefers to speak. All of us learned ASL, although the teacher said that I sign with a hearing accent (I keep putting the adjectives first). Also, because I'm left-handed, finger-spelling looks like I'm doing it in a mirror. Other that that...things are OK.

I wish you well in this fight. I'd like to see anyone who advocates closing such schools forced to wear earplugs or other similar things and forced to live for a week in the hearing world. It would open some eyes... (mixed metaphors not withstanding)
