Super Tech Quiz

Tips From Big Mike

How can I become part of Buy More?Every day, I get approached by shiftless people hanging around the store asking how they can become part of the Buy More. I have a basic test I use for applicants and it involves a hand mirror and seeing whether or not someone is breathing. Most of 'em leave after the first day. But the ones who last — and get raises and free donuts — are the ones who participate in the workplace. For you that means building your profile, adding a few photos, and completing the training and quizzes. Then show up and do your damn job. There's a reason it's called work

and much, much more...Inside Buy More

Hey Guys,

The Sound & Vision magazine Web site just posted this cool comparison of the Buy More from NBC's Chuck vs. the real Best Buy. Two actual Best Buy employees weighed in on how realistic the show is. Check it out:

Pretty cool article. Best Buy sounds like a pretty cool place to work.

I don't come here to post much. That is to the Chuck boards. I'm a fan and regular poster at Inside Buy More. My screen name is: Mark_in_Hollywood (I just happen to live in Hollywood -- Corner of Santa Monica Blvd. & Vine St.).

I love the idea of a fictional bbs. I however can't for the life of me like the mess that is at the Inside Buy More site. The links seldom work. I can't change my employee id badge photo. The board allows the user (ME) to upload up to 500 K of jpegs, gifs, etc., but will allow me a video of 100 MEG! That's crazy. Using the site's internal email doesn't seem to work. The "training videos" won't play or any other vid. clip. For me, in Firefox, clicking a vid link opens a new tab. The screen has the NBC logo at the top and in the middle of the screen a few seconds after clicking, a message says: "We are having trouble connecting to our server. If you have ad blocking software running please disable it."
I checked and I'm NOT blocking NBC/Chuck, so what gives? This has been this way for months.

At Inside Buy More, I kid the board's members that Chuck Bartowski must have written the HTML for the board, but here, I expect better. The board should function properly, no end user should have to clear cookies, etc. And Chuck & NBC can easily afford someone who can write HTML. Make my Christmas, fix the mess there.
ZebZ
It takes alot more than "someone who can write HTML" to build a functional high-scaling site.

Microsoft has nothing to do with the development of this site or with the Inside Buymore site.
Mark_in_Hollywood

Dear Newbie:

Yeah, I know that! I'm speaking figuratively, guy. And if we could place bets, I bet that the server running the board and the bbs code is tightly wound with Microsoft products. 'Nuff said.
ZebZ

Actually, the sites are both running Unix.

Apache/2.2.3 Unix mod_ssl/2.2.3 OpenSSL/0.9.7a DAV/2 PHP/5.1.6

The forum software runs on PHP not ASP/ASP.NET. So not a Microsoft technology there.

I've had no problems whatsoever viewing the site or boards in Firefox, Safari, Chrome, or Opera. Nor have I had any other problems with sites that use Invision PowerBoard forum software.

Thanks for the update, but why doesn't InsideBuyMore.com work well? If it's not crash conflicts, why can't I edit my own profile so I can tell everyone my Interests & Activities are: High Explosives Chemistry, hacking the NSA, FBI, CIA and Pentagon Computer defense grid? Another guy can't get the RSS to work. I constantly have 2 places to log into the board for (from?) and if one is in use it blocks use of the My Assistant, Friends, etc. with java(null) or some such.

Don't get me wrong, Newbie (if that's your real name), I'm just a fan, too, and would like to see if, collectively, the Herders & Associates at the InsideBuyMore.com can find a way to get Emmett Millbarge transferred to some(any)where else but Burbank.

I'm ouooouttttttttaaaaaaa here.
Mark_in_Hollywood
I was, more or less, forced to use a Microsoft product today, as part of some help I'm giving a friend with his website. What I have learned is that the Corporate News page & it's funny "Instructional" videos play just fine in this Windows emulating Internet Explorer I run under WINE in Ubuntu/Linux.

So it is with some sadness that I report to all, that the Microsoft Corporation's involvement with Chuck, NBC-Universal and who knows who all else, is indiscriminately preventing non-Microsoft operating systems from enjoying what should have been open to all who are properly registered with NBC can enjoy.

It is unfortunate however actually it is the Cenima industry that has done the dirty deed...The 'Codec' for running any licensed hollywood product is only available via a license that Micorsoft actually pays for and so does Mac. you can buy these codecs from various places on the Web. They cost approx. $19.95 (Which MS and Mac pay for and is part of the "Unreasonable" price of Windows and Mac OS's.) Sorry, it really isn't MS or Mac's idea it really has to do with Video Piracy and it is the Movie/Video Producers that have made this an item not MS or Mac. If people didn't theive their product then they wouldn't have to now would they? Hate to thwart your hatred of the MS monster but this one is Guilt free for MS...
Mark_in_Hollywood
With the permission of Big Mike, I'm allowed to say that YOU TOO, can become a Green Shirted Sales Associate or Nerd Herder. Pay is $11 to $12 per hour (d.o.e.)

Simply click the link below:

BuyMore.com

You can use your current Login and Password to become a help to our limited crew. So even though the pay is low, you'll be working alongside: Lester Millbarge, Emmett Patel, Big Mike, Chuck Bartowski, Melvin Grimes (we call him 'grimey' over there). And woo-woo-woo: Anna Wu. (nice hooters, Anna).

Working in Burbank California can be very rewarding, if you are a person who is Customer Service oriented, willing to give up lunch and bathroom breaks, able to cover partial shifts for Jeff or Skip Johnson, and is able to feel that: "the customer is always right" (or at least, their money is).

I do want to point out that the hole in the Break Room wall in the Burbank Buy More is a result of Emmett Millbarge telling A.M., Lester Patel, that it was O.K. with him (Millbarge) if I, Mark in Hollywood (my screen name), cleaned up the cage of the leftover electronic components. I found a few old, used Flux Capacitors and with them, ACCIDENTALLY blew a hole in the Break Room wall. BUT I had no idea that the other side of the wall was the ladies' restroom in the OrangeOrange Yogurt shop. Nor did I have any idea that the cutie Sarah Walker would be 'using' the ladies' room when the Flux from the Flux Capacitor reached 200,000 amps and caused the lead pencil bullet (graphite) to melt as it hit the concrete blocks, creating a molten graphite shaped-charge which effectively shocked the blocks into tumbling down (like the walls of Jericho). So, when I poked my head through the hole-in-the-wall, it wasn't to check her out, it just happened!!!!!! So if you come to work at store #1555 (Burbank), please don't pull the cardboard boxes away from the wall. They are there for a REASON, people.

Well, I'm looking forward to working with any and all of you. Remember, the pay is quite low, so you are likely to need a roommate living situation in order to afford Southern California. (1 bedrooms hovering around $1700 a month -- Jan. 2009). If you are a very hot chic, between the ages of 20 and 22, can't afford the above and don't mind sleeping in my bed, you can move in right away. We can be both 'sales associates' and 'friends' both at home and work!!!

Look Changed Liteing, maybe in Greensville (is that non-geek for newbie?) you can't spell Melvin or maybe you spell it Melvoin, I don't know, but don't clog this board with stupid remarks, OK?

I hope someone who works at either NBC / the creators of Chuck read this, cause this would be sweat. I think they should have some type of fan contest to encourage viewers on the show to win a chance to come on the show as one of the new Buy More employees. I mean I am also a starving actor on the side, but I love Chuck and I actually work at the Buy More's Competitor, Best Buy, and every time I watch Chuck, I wish more and more if they had some kind of fan contest like this. What do you guys think?

Does this show really need another gimmick to sell it?
sparsmars
Yeah, that would be cool!! I'd like to be a BUY MORE drudge for an episode/day. I would really like to be a BUY MORE 'infiltrator Spy' but like a 3rd string flunky for Fulcrum that get's killed by Casey, Chuck, or Sarah in some awesome way...Or by accident by Morgan like getting stabbed by the Swordfish. Getting nailed by Anna for bugging Morgan would be cool... She's saved Morgan before.
Anyway obviously I like the idea...

I have a slightly different take on this. At InsideBuyMore I'm as much a part of the "action" as anyone on the show. Maybe in some ways more so.

That would be pretty awesome. But the problem is that sometimes it takes more than one day to film... and for continuity reasons, the extra may have to be put up in a nearby hotel for the next day's filming. Plus, what about the plane ticket to the set? Would NBC cover that?

Sweet idea, seriously. I would definitely enter the contest.
But what about the details?

Anybody for a Buy More spin off?

Naaaaa... It would lose the feel of Chuck and become pointless and low level comedy.

Still waiting

So anyone have ideas on what happens with Buy More in Season 3? Does the show move to a different cover?

Have loved the Buy More since the beginning. Still need a Nerd Herd Fix.

Are there going to be any more Buy More webisodes? smile.gif

I happened to see Emmett Milbarge drop some BuyMore Bucks on the showroom floor. I really, really tried very hard to catch up and tell him he dropped BuyMore Bucks in $50 denominations, but he was way to fast for me. So, if you are trying to take a chance on Lester Patel's (A.A.M.) Wheel of Misfortune, check out making some BuyMore Bucks for yourself.
