Wasn't Melissa suppose to fly to Beijing and sing during the Opening Ceremony? I was really looking forward to seeing her there. Anyone know what happened?

No, she's singing at the Olympics, not at the opening ceremony. She couldn't sing then b/c the ceremony was centered around China, not the U.S.
She will be singing on the 12th.

Well I did wonder how she would have fit into the ceremony, but I just assumed it would have been then. Thanks for the info.

I watched the Opening Ceremony too hoping for Melissa. Oh well. It was a nice thing to watch. Except when they went through all those nations.

She will be on NBC's, The Today Show everyone...On Tuesday at aproximately 8:30am...not sure on the time, so don't miss it.
I have to admit, its pretty surreal (I'm hating this word now) that some people actually watched the opening ceremonies of the OLYMPICs to see Melissa and then complain about all the nations...LOL!!!

Oh okay, yeah I knew that!
I was looking at my tv guide on the cable box today to see what stuff I want to tape during the work week, and noticed Melissa being listed as being on The Today Show Tuesday, and saw that it would be the 12th, but forgot to add 2+2 and realize that would be the Olympics performance.
I will definitely be taping it!

I can't believe that so many thought she would be part of the opening ceremonies. wow...anyway.. I do watch them every time. This one was pretty spectacular!

I too was an idiot and watched four hours of hoopla waiting to see Melissa, she is a wonderful singer, not whom I picked to win, but am glad for her for winning. She definately has inner beauty and is a true person and young girls in this country don't have much to look up to anymore in those catergories. I figured since they showed Sarah Brighton that maybe we would see Melissa. Thanks to everyone who told us about the Today Show, I would have been sad to have missed it. Let's hope that ruler of China can show some respect and not cut off her song, like he has been doing to the Star Spangled Banner. Go Knock Em Dead Melissa!

Caught it around 9:30 eastern. Nice performance, but it was set up like the 'Today' concert series. Looked like she was facing the (empty) bandstand and there were only a few dozen people watching (from behind the railing. Not exactly what I expected when they said she'd be performing at the Olympics. They also said she performed at the Great Wall yesterday. Don't know if that was televised.

I taped the whole Today show and didn't see her at all. What happened? Did I tape the wrong episode of something?

It was about 2 1/2 hours in. Very short segment. It's there.

Actually it's at 9:45 eastern. Should be easy to find if you taped it. They show the time onscreen.

This was such an appropriate song for both Melissa and the Olympics. I can see it being used as a theme song for many US teams particularly Olympic teams.

I find it odd that they have been hyping this Olympic thing as sort of the "grand prize" and in reality, she was just singing on the Today Show. Not exactly what they had made it sound like. At least Angela got to sing on the Grand Ole Opry last year.

I have to agree. Although I certainly wouldn't complain about an all-expenses-paid trip to China, it sure doesn't look like this was a huge career builder for Melissa. I have been watching the Olympics during prime time since they started, and I didn't hear a single mention of her performance. Although they didn't make her sing in the middle of the night or anything like that, the performance certainly had no hype surrounding it.

Melissa stated (right before her performance, or right after, I can't remember which) that when she leaves China she goes back to Nashville...to perform at the Opry.

I still can't find it... I watched from 9:30am to 10am eastern, which is 8:30 to 9:00 Central here in Chicago, and it was not there... ?? Anyone here see it? Or know if it might be shown again? I searched but came up empty.
Thx!

The Today Show shows the time of day on-screen, so scan through until you come to 8:45 Central, unless they delay the start of the show in other time zones. The show itself starts here at 7am Eastern; if it starts at 7am Central there then she would perform at 9:45 Central. Let us know when you find it!

Ugh...our TV schedule separated the show into 2 different time slots, 7-9 and 9-10... The guide said it was in the 7-9 slot, so that is what my daughter set the DVR for; she did not record 9-10. :-( Any ideas where I can see it??
Thanks for your help...

She is performing Friday and Saturday night on the Grand Ole Opry. Nashville Star never said anything other than she would be performing at the Olympics..which is exactly what she did. They paid for everything and gave her money to spend. Additionally her MySpace page got a spike on hits due to the performance. I just don't get the negative tone sometimes...No wonder everyone in the industry suggests its a good idea to stay off the boards. I'm just sayin'

I agree with you about the negative tone. Ya'll appreciate what you're being given and that's great! To give the benefit of the doubt to some posters I guess her fans are just so proud of her we expected a bigger deal to be made at the Olympics. Personally, I'm very proud of her but I appreciate any appearance we get.

I agree with the part that NBC didn't promise anything more or less than what happened. But, after seeing the performance, I have to disagree that Melissa performed at the Olympics. She performed in Beijing, to be sure, but I am pretty sure that the Olympics never knew she was there. She performed in a roped-off area next to one of the Olympic venues. Like you say, I'm just sayin'... Call it what it is.

I don't understand why all the negativity either. Melissa may not be my cup of tea, but I would never trash her and I certainly do wish her and your family all the best!!
