ANOTHER TRUNK ANOTHER BODY—In the season two premiere, detectives Charlie Crews (Damian Lewis) and Dani Reese (Sarah Shahi) are on the hunt for a serial killer when three numbered trunks containing suffocated bodies are found scattered across Los Angeles. With their new boss New York transfer Captain Kevin Tidwell (Donal Logue) pressuring them to get answers, Crews and Reese race to find a connection between the murders before the killer strikes again. Meanwhile, Ted (Adam Arkin) and Crews attempt to track down the daughter, the lone survivor, of the family Crews was wrongly convicted of killing. Brent Sexton also stars.

I LOVED LOVED LOVED this first episode of the new season!! smile.gif Charlie's back and ready for action! The plot line was genius and the new characters were great (the new LT especially). I really liked the continuation of Charlie's hunt in who set him up and why. All in all, a fantastic episode! smile.gif

So glad its back. Great episode. Although I'm still not sure about the new LT yet. What was wrong with the first one? Why did they write her out?

Wow, what a great episode. I like the quirky Capt Tidwell (Donal Logue). He's an interesting character. I do like his comment or rather awkwardness toward Reese. I wonder whats gonna happen now that he found Rachael. Can't wait till the new episode friday.

I agree--so glad the show is back. It's my favorite. BUT, did I miss something? WHY was the original LT demoted??? I really don't like this new guy. I think he's an idiot. Only good thing is he keeps the fire under their butts to keep digging into the case, but other than that, I really do not like him. I want the original gal back.

biggrin.gif I watched the premiere tonight and it was so awesome! I'm really psyched, now, about the rest of the season. I'd almost forgotten how great of an actor Damian Lewis could be in his portrayal of Det. Crews - almost forgot - but I certainly NEVER forgot his overall hotness. That man sizzles! Shahi, Arkin,Logue, and Sexton all did great jobs, too. Although, I have to say, I'm not crazy about Logue's character, Capt. Tidwell. They made him out to be kind of sleazy...and he and Dani are supposed to become an "item" some where down the line? Noooo way. I do not see that, at all! Dani and Charlie are each other's soulmates, and they will find that out - slowly, but surely - as the seaons progress - just as Mulder and Scully did. Nothing in the viewers' faces, but definitely there. That's what I would love to see...not Dani "falling" for a guy who has already admitted to having a wife and a girlfriend who looks like he never washes his hair. And, not Charlie trying to get back with his ex-wife - the woman who dumped him when he got convicted and then left him in jail to rot. Plus, she still married! *sigh* I hope the writers of the show don't go down those paths because I liked where everything seemed to be going as of last season. My favorite scenes, in fact, are those in which Dani and Charlie are sparring words, etc. I'd hate to see scenes like that getting cut due to the other soap opera-ish stuff.
Anyways, I have to say...this first episode...the lighting, use of color, music, camera angles, dialogue, humor, uber-creepy bad guy, and "saving the day" Charlie were all so wonderfully presented in this episode. It did leave me with a lot of "Conspiracy Theory" questions, but I think I'll jump on over to the other Board topic regarding that.
I hope my fellow "Lifers" out there were just as happy as I was with the premiere and let's hope that it gets its full back-nine oder so that we can keep enjoying our favorite quirky detective and his many adventures.

Wow, what a great episode. It's really got me pumped for the rest of the season.

I just finished watching the season premiere for the third time and I have to say that it gets better each time. I've been chomping at the bit to get back to the story, and it was definitely worth the wait.

Three things in particular about this story really threw me for a loop. First, I really expected Kyle Hollis to either be killed in this episode, or to have been killed off camera sometime between the end of the last episode of the first season and this season's premiere. Having Hollis die under mysterious conditions under police custody or in jail would really have set off the second season's overall conspiracy quite nicely. Having Charlie actually speak to Hollis was a complete surprise to me.

Second, I did not expect Lt. Davis to be gone. I hope that she'll return, but a quick glance at her IMDB page shows me that she's really, really busy. Good for her, but bad for us...I loved her character. One of my favorite moments of the first season was the episode that she and Charlie are on the stakeout together. "Usually we sit around and talk about how lucky we are to have you as a boss" was a funny line, but her reaction to his joke really sold the scene for me as Charlie finally manages to get through her guard.

Third--and this is the biggest shocker for me--having Charlie actually find Rachel in the premier was a stunning turn of events. I expected him to look for her of course, but to actually find her? I figured that would happen either during sweeps or in the season finale. Once I got over my shock that the writers would throw away such an obvious plot hook for the new season, I have to say that I have no idea where they are going next...and that makes me extremely happy. Not happy enough to have a card made of course, but pretty happy nonetheless.

One question that was never made clear in the first season was just how much money Charlie recieved for his settlement with the city. The number was kept nebulous, with people saying he recieved between $4 Million and $40 Million. Having a definitive answer really gives you an idea of the kinds of resources he can bring to bear on a problem. And for Ted to casually mention that he's worth more now, makes you realize just how valuable Ted can be as a friend, and a resource in his own right.

Finally, I just wanted to say that I really hope that NBC sticks with "Life" for the full season. I realize that Friday nights are considered by the networks to be the kiss of death for shows, but that's why people have DVRs and TiVO.

Anyway, great job all around. Keep up the good work, and I look forward to seeing what happens next!

I just love this show! I am so glad it is back. I like Donal Logue. He was great in Grounded For Life. I have been telling everyone about it. I am going to blog about it on my Myspace page. I'm such a dork.

if I recall correctly, Charlie got $50 million from his settlement smile.gif

It is so nice to have Life back on. It truly is a great show. Two things about this episode. First, I was surprised that he found Rachel. What will he do with her now and what ramifications will it bring? I loved when he told Ted that if anyone tried to stop them to take his gun and shoot them.
Second, It took a couple of viewings of this episode to get used to the new Lt. However, I think he will be good, especially if he and Reese have a little relationship.

Many good lines in this episode but my favorite is "I rounded up." Maybe it is my math background but I thought that whole exchange was great.

I'm so glad the show's back! I can't believe there was a talk of cancelling it! What were they thinking??!! Great actors and intelligent writing. Can't wait to see the Friday's episode.

I agree about not putting Dani and Tidwell together - gross!!!! A shampoo and a cut, please!!!! But I don't see Dani and Charlie together either - I like them having this annoying brother/sister relationship. smile.gif

I was surprised he found Rachel that quick as well. I do have a feeling its going to be hard trying to get any information from her. In season 1 her file kept saying she refused to talk. Dani and the new Cpt. will not hook up. Hes not her type at all judging from the guys she was with in season 1. They'll probably use him hitting on her as comic relief the whole season rolleyes.gif . I really hope there turns out to be more to his character then what has been seen so far. Taking away a good character and replacing her with someone that, plot wise, serves much less of a purpose would really take the quality of the show down a notch for me.
beetleblonde
Charlie might have been so intent on finding Rachel because, if I remember correctly, they said Rachel called him "Uncle Charlie" possibly he is her uncle,,maybe her mother was Charlies sister. And that might answer why Charlies father would not let his mother visit him in prison.

Liked the show but I hate it when there are factual errors. Only a UCSD grad would know that UCSD does not offer full ride track scholarships. It is a non-scholarship school. Nit-picky but they mentioned it about three times and each time I cringed.

I'm so glad Life is back for another season. I totally missed the show during it's rather long hiatus. I think NBC did a good thing buy airing four new episodes within the first two weeks.

i disagree completely with your idea, sorry. i don't think charlie is related to rachel; that was just a term of endearment.

I thought the first episode was great! I really enjoy this show its diffrent but in a good way! I'am looking forward to the next show! And, the next and I guess you get the picture!

I watched this episode twice looking for clues as to how this little red-haired feller could have coaxed his victims into those boxes, without resistance, as nothing was said about the victims bearing any bruises of any kind or being drugged into submission, while going into these boxes alive. I was disappointed to find none; maybe someone can help me figure it out.

I was wondering the same thing. How did that little guy get those ppl in those boxes? He must have drugged them or something is my guess. I don't think they said how he did it in the episode.

I notice when I was watching the recap of last season at the begining of the frist episode that the picture of Rachel when she was little that Crews showed his ex-wife had changed. It has a different girl in it now. Did anyone else notice that? It would have probably slipped by me if I hadn't of just watched season 1 on DVD.

Summation of season 1 and the start of season 2 “LIFE”

Hello LIFEers putting up a post and as always opinions, comments and just regular gab are welcome. Anyway, NBC has for the last couple of years been putting out programming that I’ve rather become fond of watching. LIFE, CHUCK and a little bit of BIONIC WOMAN have all been regulars of my tv viewing on Monday and weekday nights. All of it started when I found out that Adam Baldwin (Jayne of Firefly fame) had joined the crew of CHUCK. FIREFLY is a favorite of mine and if so inclined you should see this show. I do believe that you will become a fan yourself. Now onward.

LIFE, the show about a detective that was wrongly imprisoned 12 years (?) out to find the truth about what (and who) sent him to prison and make it right for himself. He’s teamed up with a partner, Reese, with issues of her own. The banter between the two gives me a little bit of a Malcolm Reynolds/Inara feel (for those that know the show), only on the other side of the law. There have been a couple of Firefly ppl guest on the show and from season 1 I’ve also noticed a BoB co-actor of Damien Lewis’ “Bull” from Band of Brothers.

Charlie Crews, the millionaire detective that lost everything while doing time, but while imprisoned explored his own soul and the meaning of life through “Zen”. Did this give him the answers? Did it set him on a new path? The right direction? Only time and future episodes will tell. So far the long period of time spent alone and prison life have done a good deal of changing Charlie Crews. Has the dark side of human society given him the edge to solve the weird side of human crime? Does his partner view Charlie with more than an eye of curiosity? Maybe she sees a bit of herself in him, even if she did she won’t admit it. Anyway the Crews/Reese team up works well and Charlies partner is learning to hold her own with him. Mr. Crews still loves his ex-wife and I think she still cares for him had things been different.

I will enjoy seeing what comes up in future episodes although 9pm for me is a little late being I get up at 3am for work on Mondays. I will still catch it on NBC.com and am looking forward to another season of twists and turns with the Crews humor mixed in.

LIFEer fan, Z

PS: NBC should really look into getting the rights to air new episode of Firefly. The fan base is incredible and I think it would really boost their viewership on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday nights. There is already a built in group of folk called “browncoats” ready to tune in.

I love, love, love this show!!!!! I really enjoy the characters and the writers witty script. If cruz was anymore dynamic I don't think I could handle it! Like Toni's new hair cut! Oh, and of course, Cruz's new ride!!! I vote for the full 22 episodes! (or more if possible!)

I'm surprised no one else has jumped in - am I the only one re-watching?

Anyway, watching this again after so many months, my impresstions are definitely different.

1) I miss the documentary footage and the "last seen on Life" bits - they disappeared around
the 2nd half of season 2. The footage was great in this episode.
2) Tidwell isn't as much of a sleaze as I thought he was when I first watched this. Maybe I was in shock over losing Davis?
3) The lighting and cinematography was killer!
4) The case-of-the-week was great - and the villain amazingly creepy.
5) Dani's & Charlie's partnership was just wonderful. My favorite part was the dialog after the ice cream/crack dealers got busted. "He's right, you didn't count to 3."(while casually eating a Dove-like bar) "I rounded up."

I am attached to these characters...sigh
