Are you referring to closed caption? The United States distinguishes between subtitles (used to translate a foreign language program to English with dialog text on the TV) and closed caption, which provides written dialog text on the TV screen for people with hearing problems.


The TV Decoder Circuitry Act of 1990 (United States), which required new televisions to have built in decoder circuitry. went into effect on July 1, 1993. Analog TVs that are 13 inches or larger, and were manufactured after July 1993, can display closed captions.

To activate the closed captioning on most TV's, click the closed caption button (usually labeled CC) on your remote control. The TV's user manual should also have information on how to turn on the closed caption feature.


If you already have and are using the closed caption feature, are you saying that the Law and Order: Criminal Intent program does not provide closed captioning for its viewers?

I don't know what language you need but purchased CI DVD's (season 1, 2, and 3) are normally subtitled in French and Spanish, sometimes in German.

I assume these subtitle options are also included with the epis you can download online from Amazon and ITunes, but I can't swear to that because I've never downloaded epis.
