Full Version: Bill Marr... (or whatever his name is)
NBC > NBC Extras > NBC Vault > Late Night Vault > Late Night with Conan O'Brien

What is up with this guy? At first i thought this guy was a cool guy but after watching him on Conan.... what the hell was he going on about? Who makes fun of someone for being religious? Is he for real? What a clown. I can't believe some of the gestures he was making when discussing religion. I consider myself religious yet i would never say things like that about atheists. Amazing, all my respect for this guy vanished in about five minutes. So someone believes in the Bible? What is it to him. Live your own life. When he made that immature comment about how he is not atheist and that he just does not know... i ask him this, what is belief???? if i believe in something, i know it's true because i believe it. He makes it sound like anyone who believes in something does not know... he is wrong... They do know.

Amen to that, except for the what the hell part..... that was absolutely rediculous... it fired me up... unless he sees the light he's on a direct path to Hell... but like the bible prophacies... "what is good, shall be called wrong, and what is wrong shall be called right."

Yea, I'd believe the Harry Potter series if it were written thousands of years ago too.

You are so clever. If something was written a thousand years ago it must be wrong. That Plato guy was an idiot, because he wrote something thousands of years ago. Great logic.

Typical, close minded religious people always take offense and jump to conclusions. I adore Bill and applauded him for sticking to his convictions and beliefs. BTW, the movie is SO true and is a must see for anyone with half a thinking and or reasoning brain. Huge Marr fan and proud atheists.

Ah he never insulted atheists, at least not this one. He simply said he doesn't consider himself atheists and that he just doesn't think there enough proof either way, really don’t see why that's so hard to understand or comprehend.

Atheism by definition is the belief that there is no such thing as god because there simply has never been nor is there any proof. So this question make very little sense when you stop and think about it. But by definition Bill could be considered agnostic, although if he's anything like me he doesn't like labels and doesn't think anyone should be defined with a label because that's how fights break out and wars get started.

This statement is one of the most insane things I have ever seen written, typed or uttered in my life. And as we all know it's been spewed time and time again over history. How anyone could believe in anything without concrete proof is beyond me. Isn't that what lead us into the war in Iraq? A phantom threat that we were lied to about? Something that was blown way up out of proportion? And look at the results of that, innocent people loosing their lives and us invading yet another country because of greed and corruption.

And people who believe blindly simply because someone else tells them to are followers not leaders, no wonder this country is scared into believing whatever those who allow religious beliefs to cloud their judgments want it to believe.

Thing Plato's philosophy, writings and doctrines have been proven. There's a difference between writing fiction, for example the bible or harry potter, and writing something that's well before it's time like Plato's works. So your logic and attempt at sarcasm falls short.

You don't seem to be too clever yourself.

The entire account of Jesus was lifted from other religious figures from hundreds of years before JC's time. His 'story' is neither original nor unique. It's just the one that stuck.

Have you read Plato? Because his works are a philosophical discourse, or more specifically a dialectic. It is not a scientific experiment, there is no proving of fact, but merely argumentation directed at specific philosophical questions. The answers to these questions have been disputed by a number of other philosophers to follow him as well as attracted a number of those who agree with his paradigm. If you were to study the history of christianity and the theology and go beyond a second grade bertrand russell understanding of it, you would see the same type of philosophical discourse. After all, Saint Augustine, one of the leading theologians in the Early Church was heavily influenced by the writings of Plato and wrote his book City of God as a parallel to Plato's Republic. So maybe before you open your uninformed mouth and construct an illogical statement based on opinion (Plato's work is before it's time), you should think deeply and learn about which you are talking. Applying Hume's reasoning on doubt how can we accept anything historically which we can't verify with our own senses. The idea of objective history (if such a thing is even possible) is a relatively new concept. It's also heavily debated whether the stories Plato told about Socrates were actually from Socrates mouth and weren't modified by Plato to fit in with his philosophy. Did Socrates even exist?

How do you know theres nowhere to go after you die?.......can you prove it?.............and can you tell me exactly what part of the Bible is fiction?......and Jesus's story IS original and unique because its the only one that actually happened.......and THAT.....THERE.......my friends......is a considerably large aspect that must be ummm..........considered...
