Is the midseason break usually just a week or two? I've never cared about a series enough to pay attention before.
There have been shows I liked watching but there has never been a showed that I loved watching more than Chuck. Granted I didn't become addicted till The Wookie episode but now I'm a faithful chuck-a-holic through and through.

Honestly I could live 6 months without Chuck. Though I think the show is great, I think a full 22 episode season is just too much for the show to fill. It's a difficult show to write good episodes for, so the fewer the better in order to give the script writers time to re-hash their ideas.
I would prefer they have a 13 episode season, like the first season, and leave it like that. A lot of BBC shows have a 13 episode season, and I find the episodes within are of a much higher quality and tie in really well together at the end.
Another thing I would like to see for Chuck is a Christmas special. Not a Christmas themed episode, but a 2 hr special aired on Christmas Eve. That's another BBC tradition for family oriented shows and I think would fit well with Chuck...
Finally, I'm glad we are having a non-romantic episode this upcoming Monday. The first 3 episodes were just a little too much on romance and not enough action-comedy. Honestly, of the first 3 episodes, I only really liked the First Date one. The 2nd and 3rd episodes I felt were really lame. I really liked vs the Cougars though. The shower fight scene wasn't bad and there wasn't any romance really; I felt the bonding scene at the end between Chuck and Sarah was really well done...not romantic but a great way for Chuck to build his working relationship with Sarah...

I wonder what it will be this year I heard 'Gavin and Stacey doing a Christmas special?,
I agree with you on the first 4 episode's as well, I think the 4th had the right balance, unlike the first 3, though I like them it was nice to then have a break on the romantic front.

But i'm not sure if Chuck could compete with the amount of Christmas specials over the holiday...
The Doctor Who christmas special etc..
CaptainJackHarkness

Chuck could compete in North American markets with a Christmas special. It has a similar theme to Dr. Who where the hero is non-violent and uses his mind to resolve the conflict, and that, when done correctly, can attract a lot of viewers.
I think where Chuck is weak is at the executive producer level. I don't think the senior management team is that experienced, as the overall show story arc seems to focus on romance, while the mystery/espionage storylines are weak, short and closed off within one episode. This I hold Josh Schwartz accountable for. His experience is mostly in teenage drama, and that's what Chuck is generally mimicing. Chuck is a different show and probably needs a different skillset for management and writing.

I believe the last new episode of "Chuck" this year is on December 15th. The next new one is on January 26th. That's a long break. I know from personal experience and that of people I know, if you're a casual viewer, you're not likely to come back to the show. I hope NBC do some repeats of "Chuck" before the second half of the season starts, instead of flooding the airwave with "Deal or No Deal." NBC was an all-reality-show-all-the time network right after the Olympics, and NBC was a Nielsen ratings champ all those weeks just before the fall premiere. But once the seaon began, NBC turned into a chump. CBS showed repeats of their primetime shows during the summer, and now in the fall CBS is the Nielsen ratings champ.

I like the whole season. There is a reason that Dr. Who or Torchwood are not on U.S. Prime time TV. Both shows have a loyal following but would not generate the numbers here in order get good sponsoring. Fudak/Schwartz are the ones who got Chuck into production in the first place and had a 2nd full season ordered by the network. Also there is a website that predicts which shows will be picked up for another season and which will be canceled. They have a very good track record and are predicting that Chuck will get a 3rd season. Finally, we are here discussing a show that we like to watch. That tells me that someone is doing something right on the show.

There is nothing to suggest that Chuck's genius writers can not handle a 22 episode season. This is prime time TV on a major network; 13 episode seasons don't float there.
And Captain, as much as you may not like the romance, it attracts viewers. I haven't gone into them because I don't like spoilers, but looking at the threads of future episodes where we know there will be a triangle; they are pretty full. A lot of people are devoted to Chuck because of the major relationship in it, so while we will get a couple of tame episodes on that front every now and then, they will always come back to it.

Josh Schwartz is good at doing romance on shows that he stays on and active in the show. What do I mean? JS was involved in most of the story lines for the first season and a half of the O.C. When did the viewership and show start going downhill? When he became less involved in the show. He became more involved in season 4 and the story lines got better, but the ratings did not and the show was canceled.
I just hope JS doesn't lose interest in Chuck.

It would be great to see a nice call back to the cheeseburger scene at the end of 2.04. Chuck's multiple worlds have overwhelmed him and by the end of the episode of 2.05 he is dead on his feet.
Envisaging a scene where Team Bartowski has foiled the bad guys again and an exhausted Chuck is in the same chair in Sarah's room as he was in 2.04. Chuck and Sarah make some small talk and there is a knock at the door which is a take out dinner order.
Sarah answers the door and when she returns with the food she finds Chuck has fallen asleep in the chair. With Chuck asleep we could see Sarah let her guard totally down and express feelings visually on her face - which Yvonne is so good at.
The closing shot would be Sarah putting a blanket over Chuck as the shot fades to black.

I have to agree that the romance is the primary draw for this show. The spy stories and the humor more or less take a back seat although is enough of them for the people who interested in that portion of the show interested. Frankly I like the combination pretty much like they have it now, although I would like to see one episode where Sarah has a comedic role.

I have not seen one single promo for this episode. I don't get it. All they have to do is show Sara walking in a sexy nerd herder outfit and that will bring in viewers.
Are the powers to be satisifed with the current ratings that they decided to ease up on the promotion or is it something else?

the two promos for this episode are pretty bland...it doesn't reveal much...all we know is that the episode is around jeff's storyline...but if i was the one who was setting up the promo i would of definitely put the scene where sarah is in the nerd herd outfit...even though it's quite different from the dress code of the nerd herders...lol...that scene alone would draw viewers in (especially the guys)...i'm curious to why she's disguised like that...hmm...and besides the weinerlicious and orange orange outfit, i think this the only other disguise that sarah's been in due to an assignment...i have this feeling that the writer's are trying to catch us off-guard...because there hasn't really been much promotion on tv or online for this episode...i haven't seen any spoiler vids like we've have for the past 4 episode...but i think this episode is going to be some sort of turning point b4 jill's arrival...who knows there may be some surprises in this episode that we might not expect due to the jill drama that's been going on the forum...only 1 more day!!!

I think you're right about almost no relationship stuff in this episode ( well beside Chuck getting tired of double life which can foreshadow the Jill arc ) . I believe the writers will give us a full action/comedy episode ( emphasis on comedy) so the 3 episode emotional roller coaster can hit with full force

If the are no romantic scenes during this episode I think that it will be only the 2nd time that they have done this. The other was the Undercover episode. I can see at least one scene where Chuck talks to Sarah and tells her how the double life is wearing him down. Frankly the only other person he could talk to about it is Casey who would just tell him to suck it up and stop whining.

I just watched the Comicon panel and they did say this would be sort of addressed in the first 5 episodes. I'm thinking its nothing more than the conversation Chuck had with Ellie already about moving on from the BuyMore when he thought the Intersect was going to be out of his head soon. That is going to be as far as they carry it I believe.

The scene where Chuck mentioned to Ellie that he was thinking about going back to school was in the first episode. You would think that JS would have said that the issue of Chuck going back to school would be addressed in the first episode instead of sometime in the first five episodes. I often think that the statements about future episodes that is made by the producers and other people associated with the show are purposely misleading, so who knows.

Perhaps the mention of Chuck going back to school in the first episode was just a lead-in for a future episode...

Did anyone catch the 2nd (i believe) Spies Like Us reference in the Chuck series on this episode? The "efficiency expert" sent to the Buy More is named Emmett Millbarge. In Spies Like Us, Chevy Chase was named Emmett Fitz-Hume and Dan Akyroyd was named Austin Millbarge. The last reference was to the GLG-20's in last season.
