I never quite understood why peter needed to get sylars ability. Also why did he not already have it as he gains the abilities of those nearby and has come across sylar many times. When peter meets sylar in the future sylar initially doesn't want to 'let' peter have it as it came with a hunger. Could this mean that there is something about sylars ability that means Arthur cant steal it? and this is the reason that peter needed to obtain it?

This has been talked about in other thread but cant remember the title.....but put shortly, Peter most likely always had Sylar's ability, but you have to remember that Peter cant use an ability unless he knows he has it. Unless its sub-concious(ex: on the rooftop with Claude in S1). What Peter needed was for Sylar to let him know how to use it, thats why Sylar told him to fix the watch. Once he knew how to fix it the power kicked in along with the hunger.

ok i get that sylar may have had to show him how to use it, but why did he need to get it? It seems arthur is out to get anyone that can tell the future as they may know how to stop him. I think it was angela along with future peter that got peter to go find sylar to get his ability, but why do this if it was just another ability for arthur to steal. Maybe they wanted arthur to get the hunger so he would consume his own army. Or maybe it was just so that sylar would explode? Guess ill just have to keep watching

We just don't know yet why he needed it. The story is still going on so it will probably all come together near the end of the volume.
