let me start off by saying that conan is one of
the best show's on tv.. he is truly talented.
it seems like sometimes on the show... especially the
unplanned, unscripted parts that you catch a glimpse
of how conan might truly be.. as a boss and person in general
i know it comes off as "kidding" but conan can be a jerk
to his band.. (max and la bamba especially) and his crew (like
his wardrobe guy and his producer)
i have a feeling that conan is a pretty tough boss and
its not all fun and games on the set...
what do you think?

I think you should work for Conan as a personal advisor and keep his ego in check.
I also think that anyone who willingly dubbed themselves "la bamba" deserve to be ridiculed at every opportunity that is available. Thats just basic comedy 101.

I agree. I think he's probably a self-absorbed guy. It's very sad because he used to seem a lot less phony in 1993 when I started watching him, but I was a kid back then, too. He seems to resort too much to phoned-in lines and an over-the-top personality since 2000. He was cooler in the mid-'90s; he seemed more real to me.

Hey Mr. Leno, don't you think you have more important things to do than hang out on message boards bashing people that are more talented than you? I mean, thinking up a joke and then thinking of ways to explain the joke (and by doing so, killing the joke) has to be eating up a lot of your free time.
Ohh that had to burn. To bad it is true. Jay Leno is awful compaired to Conan; Conan is the only late guy worth watching. Jay should retire instead of screwing over NBC by making them have like 4 late night talk shows. Who is going to watch all those.

^I could be mistaken (Correct me if I'm wrong) but didn't Carson host TRL? That ended this year so two shows in one year would be sad.
Though I agree, and I do not watch Carson. In fact I don't watch Leno either, I usually watch Handle instead of him.

Might this be a part of Conan's allegedly "selling out" in order to appear mature for an early late night audience, the one that currently watches Jay? Many of us who don't care for Conan see a lack of maturity that comes through in his humor which, rather than being "cutting edge", is simply immature.
I'd far prefer having Jon Stewart or Craig Ferguson take over The Tonight Show. Anyone but Conan. With Conan there, it's a no-brainer to go and watch Dave.

What is it about having a chef guest on the show that turns Conan stupid? Is it so hard to follow simple directions or turn on an electric beater? Why is it that he thinks he must act up whenever he has anyone on that cooks? Tonight's show had Paula Deen on. He stood up there throwing stuff around, not paying any attention to her directions or even making an attempt to follow them, acting as though he couldn't push a button on the mixer to make it go. Making a mess. He will not last as the Tonight Show host. Too bad too because Leno will outshine Conan no matter what.

You want Conan to be Leno? I dont. Paula Deen and Martha Stewart have their own shows to display their cooking. Their on Conan to be manipulated for the sake of comedy. They willfully submit themselves to it.
I think its funny because he only has x number of minutes to do the segment and his job is to add as much comedy to it as possible.
I understand that you prefer Leno to Conan, because I prefer Conan to Fallon. I wont be watching Fallon, or Carson, or Leno. Just Conan.

What's with all the Conan bashing-I really like him and Fallon will be great. Leno 5 times a week at 10 PM won't work-people want drama and action that's smart, entertaining, well written and well acted like My Own Worst Enemy. The morons at NBC cancelled it after only 4 episodes and only aired 9 as well as placing it in a terrible time-slot for a new show. Why spend all the time and money to produce a show then not give it a fighting or even reasonable chance? GE needs to clean house at NBC and fire all the current execs who are so out of touch with what the public wants and what will ultimately make them money. If they were reasonably patient and let shows catch on, they would be on top again and return to being the "Must See TV" channel instead of the "I Can't Take It Anymore" channel. So disappointing and frustrating. They haven't got a clue-that's why they're last in the ratings and will continue to be. As for me I will not be watching any of NBC's new shows-why bother? They just cancel the good ones and continue to support crap. I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired over this and it's the last straw. I've been signing petitions, emailing and calling for them to bring the show back, the first time in my life I felt so strongly about a show. They need a serious wake-up call and if they don't bring MOWE back I will not watch this network at all.

Simple case of someone not understanding basic principles of photography (Nerdy web board post alert.) The image looks like it's cropped from a larger photo, and you can see someone thought it would be a good idea to center the eye line, which is almost never a good idea. In this case, since it's a closeup, it makes the forehead take up an abnormally large percentage of space within the frame. The mind's natural assumption is that it's because of a humongoid forehead. Conan is taller than most and the photo being taken from an angle below would make his forehead look even bigger since you see less of the top of his head.
Also, Conan's humongoid forehead doesn't help.

I'm glad this topic was brought up. Now I know I'm not the only one who's thought about this.
I know Late Night is a comedy show and Conan's just trying to get laughs. But ever since Andy Richter left the show, it seems his head has gotten a little bigger than it was during the humble beginnings of the show. I think that's when he realized he was getting popular enough that he could carry a show on his own. Then he started with the comments such as "It's Late Night with WHO??" and frequent threats to fire various crew members for their mistakes. It's weird because I do find it funny, but at the same time he does it often enough to make you wonder a bit what he's really like when the cameras aren't rolling.
All that said, I do love Conan, and think he's the most talented guy in late night.

I don't see why people are so hateful and critical. If you don't like Conan, then don't watch, simple. I think he is genuinely funny, and he is who he is. He doesn't care what other people think. I also enjoy Letterman, even though his type of humor is completely different. If you watch Letterman, you would notice that he does the same type of fooling around when celebrity chefs are on his show, it's all just part of entertainment.

His forehead looks big, because his hairline has receded. (Conan also has a bald spot on the backside of his head.)
The question is, will his hairstyle change for Tonight Show and how? I'm sure it will, because it becomes ever more difficult to comb his hair the way it is right now. Not because The Tonight Show's "elegance" requires it or whatever excuse he will use to justify the change.

let start off by saying I can't stand Conan, his humor is just dumb. I am not an idiot and he is not funny. He comes across as an ass. I love Jay and Johnny, I will miss watching the tonite show, but there is now way I can watch Conan and his stupid stunts. His conversations with his quests are boring and unentertaining. It is sad that NBC could not find someone better to fill Jay's shoes. I guess I will start watching Letterman. Conan is not even good looking, or even close. JAY I WILL MISS U.
cutaconan
Mar 1 2009, 04:37 AM
It's amazing how many people throw Conan under the bus, and say his "humor is dumb" and all that crap. Is it because he attempts comedy that gets most peoples' feathers in a bunch? I mean, Jay and Letterman had their days, and I'm not against Jay by any means (Letterman, however...), but both are as stale and dry as 5 week old bread. Jay does monologues that seemingly go on forever and then uses contrived situations to get a laugh in his comedy bits (ie. Jaywalking). Letterman's "Top 10 Lists" stopped being funny about 10 years ago, and that's all I have to say.
Then, you have a guy like Conan, someone who takes the essence of sketch comedy and improv, and incorporates it into a talk show. He's no stand up, and doesn't try to be. He's original, and a one of a kind character. He engages with his audience, as well as his guests. Anyone ever watch a celebrity go on Jay's show one week, and then Conan the next? Ever take note of the difference in location? Guests always seem 100% more at ease when they're with Conan, and it's not because he's providing them pillows and blankets while he interviews them. Conan doesn't mind going off the cuff with guests, he'll have real conversations, and won't put in stupid jokes that don't go anywhere. He's able to subsidize well when they're is dead air, and makes it virtually impossible for the conversation to go flat.
From the scared, inexperienced young kid he was back in 1993 to now, Conan has taken a complete 180. He's managed to hone his skills and take advantage of his new found strengths. You've just got to respect a guy who literally had no basis in on-camera television, and then became the number 1 leader in his time slot. I love Conan, and though he's made some changes in the past few years, I'm hoping he'll do a fantastic job on the Tonight Show, and I feel anyone who claims they dislike him, or think he's "stupid, not funny, dumb" have either spent little to no time watching his show, or are just afraid of change, like many of us, and don't want to open their minds to the possibility of his staple on the Tonight Show franchise. Personally, I didn't want Conan to move to LA, I didn't want him to leave his home on Late Night to move on to the big stage of the Tonight Show, but that, by no means, was me saying he couldn't handle it. He's ready for this job, I just wish it could be there for him in New York.
To all the haters, give Conan a shot. NBC did, and believe it or not, they actually made a smart decision by keeping him around and made a ton of money. Maybe you can eventually see what we all see in him.

I agree totally with you on Letterman but, sadly, have to disagree about Conan. Can't stand him. Although we all have our different tastes in humor. My only wish is that Letterman would dump Paul, or remove all microphones from his vicinity so we don't have to hear Paul attempt comedy. The band is great and I wish we could see them highlighted. Every once in a while, Johnny Carson would have the band do a number for the viewing audience. Letterman's band could use that kind of spot once in a while.
