As a water aerobics instructor - it kills me to see the shots of the pool at the ranch and have no one ever working out that way - why?

I have worked with many overweight people and have found that working out in the water is the best for them - for several reasons; weightlessness, less pain to the joints, and overall a better work out than the gym (1 hour of water aerobics can equal 2.5 hours of land aerobics, because of the resistance of the water). I make workouts fun, invigorating and beneficial. I understand how to work with those with weight challenges.

I'd love to work with the show on the ranch helping contenstants use the water to assist in their weight loss. If anyone out there from the show sees this - please contact me.

Thanks. Amy - The Water Aerobics Instructor

PS love the show - have been a fan since the 1st season.

I feel the same way! On one season Jillian worked her team out in the pool, but I think they were in Hawaii. I really loved that, because the contestants thought it was going to be easy, and were surprised how tough the water workouts were!
I have about 200lbs to lose, and "water walk" at our local rec center. the lazy river where I walk is 4' at its deepest, and there is a current. I usually walk 1 mile (40 laps) against the current, and 1 mile with the current. There is even more resistance when the water aerobic classes are in the lazy river running the mile, or working out. They create quite a "wake" for me to trudge through, lol. It makes the work-outs more intense.

I took water aerobics classes for several years through community college. I loved it! Being in the water is the only time when I am not in pain (I have fibromyalgia). Sadly, they do not offer the class at the heated pool anymore. dry.gif

Swimming laps does it for me. I too wonder about that beautiful pool. I want to jump in and swim my weight off. Why don't they at least try on the show for those who like to swim. I'd like to see what typs of exersise they recomend for the pool. I feel guilty on the days I swim at the YMCA instead of using the equipment. Am I wrong?

I've been going to water aerobics for the past 2 weeks and love it! I'm living in Guam and there is an outdoor pool here on base not even a mile from where I live. I can go anytime of the year and I'm never cold. It's great:)

when I was able to go to water aerobics, I loved it.

I would really like to see the contestants use the pool more on TBL

Unfortuantely water exercises do not compare to "inside the gym exercise" for weight loss. Not saying that they are bad to do and that it would be great for alot of people.

However if you are looking to drop weight at a fast rate - there are better alternatives.

I decided that since I have been so out of shape for a few years that the best way to get some heavy cardio in is water aerobics. I MUST recommend it to anyone looking for a really awesome cardio workout and less stress on your knees and ankles. And don't think for one second that it is easy. Once you get the weights involved, it is heavy duty, especially if you haven't worked out in a while like me.

Try it!!! You'll love it!!!

I agree with the people writing in about seeing that pool every time and no one ever using it. What a waste of another resource for their programs. Especially in the beginning when they are all so out of shape and heavy. If you know how to use the water you can get an amazing workout from it. Weather it be cardio or strength. This stuff they do sometimes seems very barbaric and thats why the at long term home success rate is so low. The water is the only enviornment that will take you back to get freedom of movement in no matter what happens to you. Paralized, in pain, stiff, etc. You should be using this in your show let alone real life. It is a no brainer, hydro therapy not only builds but it soothes the soul and helps release much of the tension that builds up from land exercising. Have you ever seen an over weight swimmer. NO Enough said get in the water.....

We are in the process of putting in a pool. It should be done by next weekend. Where can I get water weights? I have seen them before, do I just try to make them from noodles? And what type of exercises do you do in the pool? Are there any books, videos or websites out there?

Go on the internet to Google and google water weights, several threads are available.

I actually enjoy water aerobic classes at my gym...my friends give me tons of grief over it (because the majority of the classes are senior citizens and morbidly obese people.....but I don't let it bother me
1 - you can get a great work out
2 - it really helps when I have low back pain (I can still exercise without a ton
of pain)
