UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. – January 5, 2009 – NBC's hit weight loss series returns with its biggest season yet when "The Biggest Loser: Couples" premieres Tuesday, January 6 (8-10 p.m. ET). Alison Sweeney ("Days of our Lives") hosts and trainers Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels return to train 11 couples who begin the show with a combined weight of more than 3.5 tons.
The premiere kicks off with the contestants arriving at the ranch in teams of two, including mother/daughter, father/son, sisters, best friends, grandparents, cousins, an engaged couple and former models. Included among them are the series' oldest players yet (63-year-old grandparents), youngest male contestant (18), heaviest female contestant (379 lbs.) and heaviest contestant ever in the history of the show (454 lbs.).
First, they head to the gym to try working out on their own – unaware that Bob and Jillian are watching them via hidden camera, ready to surprise them and start picking their teams. After teams are chosen and they get settled in, the couples are off to compete in their first challenge for a prize that will prove to be very valuable. Also in the premiere episode, one contestant has an eye-opening health scare, and all the players are in for a shock when Alison Sweeney surprises them at the weigh-in with this season's big twist, sure to have dramatic consequences for almost everyone.
In conjunction with the new season premiere, "The Biggest Loser" is partnering with General Mills and Feeding America to launch the Pound For Pound challenge, an initiative that encourages Americans to lose weight and feed the hungry. For every pound viewers pledge to lose this new year, a pound of groceries will be delivered to a local food bank. The Pound for Pound Challenge gives Americans the opportunity to fight the hunger crisis and help families in their own communities by simply pledging to lose weight and getting healthy. People can visit www.PFPChallenge.com or www.biggestloser.com and enter their weight loss goals to join in. The challenge will be integrated into the show and viewers will get updates throughout the seventh season.
Americans can also donate directly at www.PFPChallenge.com and look for Pound For Pound lids and seals on specially-marked General Mills products. For each lid or seal mailed in, General Mills will donate 10 cents, enough to provide a pound of groceries, to Feeding America, the nation's largest domestic hunger-relief charity.

The new season of The Biggest Loser kicks off tomorrow night in an action-packed premiere! It's the biggest season ever--and we mean that literally. Tomorrow night you'll meet 11 teams made up of couples that include family members and best friends.
Among this season's competitors: Wheaton, Illinois's Jerry and Estella Hayes, grandparents in their 60s whose minds are ready for the challenge even if their bodies aren't yet; Willow Spring, North Carolina's Daniel Wright, who at 19 years-old and 457 pounds is the game's biggest player ever. Daniel and his best friend David (390 pounds) have made up their minds to take control of their lives; Kristin Steede and mother Cathy Skell, from Greenville, Wisconsin, have a combined 300 lbs. to lose to transform their lives.
Trainers Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels know better than anyone that this nation is in the throes of an obesity epidemic. "You want to see what's going on in America?" Bob says. "Turn on The Biggest Loser because here's what America looks like right now."
Don't miss tomorrow night's premiere at 8/7c on NBC. Kick off the New Year by watching these 22 people take their first steps to new lives!

The quick turnaround from last season to this season is awesome. I'm glad they've been sticking with couples too. The couple dynamic makes the show very interesting. Alison Sweeney is also the best host the show has ever had. The previous hosts were horrible and Alison does a great job.
I hope Jillian wins again.

You didnt like Caroline Rhea? I actually enjoyed her and really cannot tell a difference between her and Alison, hosting wise. Both are great.

I wonder what this twist/shock is? Maybe they will allow everyone to stay and they actually just keep to whoever loses the most % wins. I would love to see that. all these people look so inspirational and they all look like it's a matter of life and death.

I didn't realize what I posted would be considered a spoiler. I guess I'm just wondering why they would even put the new book out there yet when this season hasn't even begun? It ruins the whole surprise if I know who is in that book, if they are going to make it to the finals.

What if the big twist is that the couples are being broken up from the very start? Bob gets one set, Jillian gets the other. That would also explain why it seems like Bob has one team more than Jillian.

WHAT is with this new setup with the boards? I am sure someone thinks it is
a good idea but it sucks in my humble opinion. PLEASE bring it back the way it
was which is more user friendly for those of us who are totally computer illiterate.

Kariina, what do you mean? The way the threads are organized? If that is what you mean, then I think you will eventually love it. It is much easier to find what you are interested in this way, and things are cleaner and neater. I love how the actual "show discussion" threads are separated from the "helping each other" threads. It is so easy once you get used to it.
Or is it something else you are referring to?

UGH UGH UGH UGH UGH expletive deleted, my local NBC has delayed the show until Sun at 1, so they can show the local cruddy university b-ball team play (no one cares the stands are empty so why pre-empt brand new shows to show it on tv dang it, where as they refuse to show the football games even though they almost always sell out) I don't wanna wait til Sun

Anyone know if it will be viewable on the NBC site b4 then?

Oh man! That white team situation is scary but at least I know it wasn't at the hands of Jillian and Bob. Question: If he gets ill from the minimal exercise (that is shown on the television), then how will he do with the trainers. It was sad/creepy that he smiled right before passing out. Hopefully everything got better and they were able to stay.

2 ask ur question she looks about 5 months. and poor jerry. i hope he comes back and gets healthy. interesting way the teams were picked. i think they should keep it this way. so far, everyone seems nice. that could change when team play kicks in but so far it seems the show went the inspiring route instead of the drama route. i think some people at BL were reading these boards. they listened! it looks like a good season.

Kel_Bel - are you in Kansas too?????? UGH! I was so mad. I even rushed home from the bank and was getting all ready and turn on the tv and there is a KU game on! Not being a Kansas native, I simply do not understand the Kansas fascination with their college sports teams. Will also be watching Sunday at 1, even though I am not happy about it. Hope this isn't a running theme throughout the semester.
I tried to find live tv stations on the net but couldn't find the episode... I think NBC typically uploads episodes for online viewing within 48 hours of the first broadcast.

so far no long drawn out pauses, no three minute replays after every commercial and no product placement (except bodybugg which was neat). Seems like they are off to a great start. My only problem here is that our local station is all messed up and everything is squiggley.
