Full Version: Outdoor scenes poorly done
NBC > Primetime > The Office > The Scuttlebutt

Every time there is an outdoor scene, everything is green and there are palm trees everywhere. I've never seen palm trees in Scranton. The producers obviously care about the exterior shots as they make sure the cars have PA plates, they put winter salt all over the cars, but everything is green, in bloom and there are palm trees clearly seen everywhere. I would think they would be a little more conscious of this. Anyone else agree?

Yes, there are times where I think things should appear a little colder. Last weeks episode, for instance, didn't have any snow and just 'looked' too warm.

But all in all, it's not that important to the overall story and it's something that I'm willing to overlook. I guess I just get over it. smile.gif

I haven't seen any palm trees yet, but there are continuity issues and the list is growing.

For example, in the cold open for The Duel, Michael and Dwight are racing out on the street. It's supposed to be winter in Scranton. Jim says that 17 days have elapsed since Phyllis dropped the bomb regrading Angela and Dwight, so it's obviously early January. Why are Michael and Dwight not dressed for winter when Andy enters in the next scene dressed properly for winter in Scranton??

Sloppy, folks, just plain sloppy. ph34r.gif

There are also some episodes where Michael is talking to the camera, and the background isn't moving, and you can distinguish his shadow on it.

You can have warm winter days though. I lived in Maine for two years, and as soon as there was a day that wasn't so cold you'd freeze if you went out without a coat, you'd do it. Plus, they knew they would be running, so they'd get warmer. Also, if you were just coming in, you'd likely be dressed for colder weather, in case it got too cold later.

They probably had been running for awhile and were getting pretty warm.

Last nights episode when Pam and Michael were sitting outside the Nashua(sp?) branch talking it looked cold. Maybe they read these forums, or maybe it was cold in Los Angeles that day they filmed the episode.

Fake snow will do that. I've got tons of the real stuff on my lawn if they want it. No charge.

Wait. Where were the palm trees in Scranton?

I have noticed that they seem to be getting sloppier with regard to this, too. Many talking heads now feature brilliantly sunny backgrounds instead of dark and wintry looking ones.

I really started noticing around when Michael had his own roast. When he takes a personnel day (hehe) in the park, it is really glaringly bright out. He also looks like he's been in the sun for a long time. I can see how that would be hard to get around, if one is shooting all day in the LA sun... but still.
