I'm so sad about their departure, but I'm also grateful today for all that SN and MBE managed to give the audience during their return run. Here are a few banners with that sentiment, all for sharing--

stephen and mary beth are SIMPLY THE BEST. i SURE WILL MISS THE CHARACTERS OF STEVE AND KAYLA.
I will miss Steve and Kayla and I still can't believe they are gone and got no exit story!

I'm sorry to say their last scenes have already aired (Tuesday 2/17). Here is the quote from Corday in SOD about them leaving:

I think the best guess about the "why" is a combination of budget reasons and the show wanting to go in a younger direction in general, since they are going out the door with so many other vets as well. But Corday couldn't admit something like that.
