SPECIAL GUEST STAR GABRIELLE UNION JOINS THE CAST OF “LIFE” AS DETECTIVE JANE SEEVER -- With Reese (Sarah Shahi) still on loan to the FBI, Crews (Damian Lewis) is assigned a new partner, Detective Jane Seever (Gabrielle Union). Seever, the exact opposite of Reese, is quite the over achiever. Crews and Seever get right to work on the murder of a court reporter who was clubbed to death with a three iron. The reporter turns up dead after becoming pen pals with a convict who was imprisoned for a jewelry heist.

So the FBI is trying to get Dani to "be a cop" much like Lt. Davis was telling her to. Argh, why can't Crews and Reese just meet and talk it out! God help us if this isn't resolved by the end of the season. This is NBC's most critically acclaimed show. We need another season!
crimedawg62
Maybe this is their plan....but I am confused. There are only a few weeks left to the season and I don't feel the momentum building like last season. I am not even sure where the focus is concerning the conspiracy wall.

I thought the pic they showed Dani of Crews and her father was doctored...it reminded me of a photo Crews had of Reese and Ames. Is the FBI going after Charlie and why? Is Roman still pulling strings with other agents he has under his thumb?

My sense is that Crews and Bodner will be going after Roman and I still think Rayborn will resurface because he staged his own death. How much can Dani do when they are trying to hide her pregnancy...is the FBI planting ideas in her head so that she will be an affective "witness" against Charlie?

I think I liked seeing Charlie deal with not having Reese more than dealing with this new temporary partner.

I still love the show...but I am confused. Anyone care to help me out (blackfel I always appreciate your insights)?

I'm not sure where they are really going with this but I don't think they are trying to go after Crews this time. They keep asking Dani where her father is and she has still yet to answer. Maybe he's dead??? I do agree that I am still not convinced that Raybourn is dead. I think it was staged to appear that way. Maybe to get Roman off him?

I thought the funniest part was where Crews and Tidwell were talking about the new partner being a robot. You can tell they both miss Dani.

Okay, everyone posts how they got involved with this show. Because of this episode, it's my turn. I am a court reporting student! I go to an internet school, so I pretty much set up my own schedule. In the mornings, I type up TV shows as my practice, and Life has been one of the hottest ones from the very start (it's the only one I put posts on the boards).

So you can imagine how much this show really got to me! When they first went to the TV station and found out she was a captioner, I KNEW she had to be a court reporter. Captioners learn their trade in court reporting school because they use the same steno machine. Then when it came up that she was the court reporter for the diamond heist trial, I just about went crazy!

I'm going to have to tell my teacher to look this episode up and watch it.

Tee hee!!!!

Being a little picky, I thought it odd, if you are going to use a court reporter and her transcript as charachters, that Jane read from a transcript and referred the guys to a "paragraph" - you would only refer to "lines" in a transcript.

That photo of Jack Reese yelling at Charlie Crews was DEFINITELY doctored. It's looks like one Charlie took of Jack yelling at Carl Ames. I agree with crimedawg.

My heart was hurting as Dani & Charlie were talking on the phone, both looking at photos of each other
with Jack or Mickey. That was so sad. I hope the end-of-season cliffhanger doesn't have them completely
against each other. Right now it looks like Dani's willing to give Charlie the benefit of the doubt...but I'm
not sure what Charlie's thinking. Ted seems to be convinced it's bad news.

That murder of the week wasn't as interesting, though watching Crews and Tidwell get used to Seever was
kinda funny. They miss Reese and so do I. I also missed Bobby. I don't know what to make of Ms. Union yet;
her character is written very differently to what else I've seen her in. Maybe she'll work out OK. I snickered
at the line about dating the race car driver....it's a bit intimidating without being physical. These guys are so
used to physical intimidation, it's cool to see them out of their box.

At one point, Ms. Union's delivery reminded me of Bodner - "That's funny..." I'm looking forward to Bodner
coming back.

Hello. Does anyone know the name of the actress who played the part of Nina Fiske in this episode? I'm new to the series, but could not find any mention of her in either the show credits or on IMDB.

Thanks in advance!

Hola!

This episode made the FBI's intention clear as it pertains to Dani. They actually *are* trying to get her to turn informant against Charlie. By showing her the photo of Rayborn talking to Charlie, right before Rayborn dies, and then showing her a photo of Jack Reese arguing with Charlie, and then asking "do you know where your father is?" they are trying to convince her that Charlie has most likely killed her father and made it look like he "ran away." If Dani comes to believe that Charlie killed her father (the reason she became a police officer in the first place) she'll turn on him like a rabid dog, and I think they are counting on that.

I'm virtually certain that Gabrielle Union is actually NOT a robot, but is in actuality an FBI agent sent to investigate him. A person with her background and skills doesn't become a cop...that would be completely beneath her. A person like her becomes a FED because the Feds tend to collect the best and the brightest.

That being said, I think that Gabrielle is an excellent addition to the story. It seems somehow disloyal to say this, but I like her every bit as much as I like Sarah Shahi. For different reasons, of course, but I really liked her character. She mixed well with Charlie.

I think the FBI agent that is doing the investigating (I don't think it's the questioner actually...probably her boss) is directly involved with the people that "investigated" Charlie the first time...and sent him to prison. You remember, the guys from IAD that put pressure on Bobby to keep him from backing up Charlie's story right before he went to jail? I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that this person is pulling the strings to send Charlie back to jail.

I love Life and hope it gets renewed next season! I think the addition of Tidwell was great (love his character!) and Charlie's new partner seems ok and will tide me over until Dani's return (hopefully!).

This is probably a dumb question, but does anyone know what the last part of this week's show was about, where Charlie's new partner was watching the news and they said the guy they were investigating (sorry, I can't remember his name) was back in jail after assaulting an LA detective? who was assaulted?
tedmna
The best episode this season. A good story for the episode (ie not the parody of a crime that too many this year's crimes have been), and lots of "what's going on?" for the background story.

I took it to mean that Len assaulted Charlie Crews. Especially because the camera panned backwards
to show Charlie's empty chair.

I thought that too, but it just occured to me: If it was Charlie, wouldn't they've have said so on the news? We've established--and it was confirmed again last night--that Crews is famous; his name is known to the public. A famous cop gets assaulted in L.A. and the news doesn't mention it?

Welcome back Blackfel.

Thanks for backing me on the FBI pitting Dani against Charlie.

Charlie already told Dani that her father was not responsible for him going to prison...so I don't think Dani would believe that Charlie killed her dad even if was a lie to get Dani to turn. But in my confused state....I could be wrong.

What confuses me about this season is how the whole conspiracy angle has been so fluid compared to last season, when we knew Charlie was tracking the killer of the family. This season he was finding Rachel, then going after Jack Reese, then Rayborn or is it now Roman? Either way we are getting little information and more inuendo. Or am I missing something?

I think the FBI is actually investigating Bodner. In an organization such as the FBI corruption is usually found out uite quickly and I won't subscribe to the theory that Roman has more agents under his thumb. I think they ligetimately think that either charlie is working with bodner, or they want bodner, because under this day and age, with terrorism as it is, the feds would smell something wrong. i don't think these feds are that bad. I think using dani as bait is what they intened but for what I'm suspect about. I do agree that fluidity of the conspiracy is a bit more bumpy this season. I hope that crewes and reece don't end up in conflict. i hope they do tlk it out. her brief question about her fathers involvement was not enough to satisfy the need to know.
and i still don't trust the captain.

Good morning fellow Lifers,

I’ve pretty much been a no-show this week as far as television watching goes ( been working a lot of overtime) but I did catch up on my favorite tv episodes this morning, LIFE being one of them. I’ve got a few observation, a few opinions and I’m throwing in a joke or two for good measure.

First of all my reason for watching LIFE is more about the weekly crime solving moreover than the big theory conspiracy wall. I know that a lot of folks are getting into that part of the storyline and I find it interesting but what I like more are the jokes and puns Charles puts up on his partner(s). Now he’s got a new one, Jane Seever (Gabrielle Union). I think she did a good job although I hope the creators are not looking for a Reese clone. I like the character and I don’t think the writers will make that mistake.

Now to greet a newcomer to LIFE, Howdy Imafan219. Welcome aboard if this is your first viewing of LIFE, and I will say that if it is, you need to check out all the other season 2 episodes and season 1 also.

My wife noticed season 1 of LIFE at Walmart the other day and she pointed it out to me. “ Want to get that?” she asked and I told her “No”. I’m waiting to see if there’s a third season ( I hope there is) cuz I really like the show and don’t want to see it go away when it’s beginning to increase it’s numbers of fans. I also don’t want to buy a tv show that only has one or two seasons. Been there done that and I don’t understand when networks won’t allow a show to reach it’s full potential (meaning four or five seasons at least). That’s why I’m holding off.

Now, the one line zingers in the this weeks episode were far and between but they were there. I enjoyed them. Sarah, so obviously has a little detective growing in there and I’m wishing her all the best with her pregnancy. The writing has been good enough to keep me interested ( can’t get my wife to watch it with me yet) and I’ll keep watching. I may even break down and get the season one dvd. I’m all about sharing and I’ll find it hard to get others involved in a show if it’s headed toward cancellation. Sure hope that isn’t the case here. Hear me NBC!!

The last little bit of info I want to share is about our new Crews partner Jane. She said that she had an ex boyfriend racecar drive. Well I’ll reveal the name of that individual now, it was Ricky Bobby! They were involved for about 5 months back in 2003. It was a hot and heavy romance for a while but it fell to the criticism of Jane dating a fellow that was over half her age. This was before he became the father of Walker and Texas Ranger of course.

Since previous posts have covered some of my own theories, I'll just add that I agree with the notion that the new partner is not what she seems and Charlie already has an idea about who she's working for. Her alleged background and 15 year plan spiked his curiosity. Mine, too.
Charlie definitely knows his prisoner profiles. He makes them squirm. I love that.
That said, I really enjoyed this episode and look forward to the rest of the season.
Great work, all around, from cast and crew.

I had to laugh when she was in the car with Charlie, talking about her 15 year plan. She tells him she got sidetracked, his eyes light up, he thinks she's going to say something like drugs, alcohol, abusive boyfriend, child out of wedlock. No, she says Olympics. rolling.gif He was really looking for her to have some kind of flaw, so they could have something in common. laugh.gif

I really loved the scene with Charlie and Tidwell when they discuss the possibility that she's a robot. When they go into the room with her to see if she blinks, I laughed out loud. And what made it even better is when she approached the Captain a little later and said, "And by the way, I'm not a robot."

I also liked when he told her he didn't want her to write down everything he says...and then says "Don't write that down" as she was starting to write.

I think the last two episodes have showed a kinda neat male bonding with Crews and Tidwell. I half want to see them work together on a case...not bumbling around but guys being guys. I liked the unison "she isn't Reese". It shows an acceptance of each other's "relationship" with Dani.

Is it just me, or did Crews sound a little worried when he said that? Like he didn't want his words on permanent record or something? I was intrigued.

Dani doesn't like being interrogated; Charlie doesn't like being recorded. Hmmmm?

Much as I miss Dani (and I DO), I'm really liking Tidwell on his own. I burst out laughing when they chorused "Not Reese." Yes, they probably said it for different reasons but the fact that they were in
agreement was amusing. I also enjoyed Crews quoting/doing an impression of Tidwell to Dani on
the phone - though that might have been "Shelf Life," not "3 Women."

This is late replying to this - show's you how often I get to the boards. Actually that's not so odd. Transcripts are made up of a series of Questions (Q) and Answers (A). Each one is referred to as a paragraph. Even the translation software has them broken down into paragraph "types".

Good observation though!
