Anyone else not looking forward to her joining the cast?
I've never been a fan of her and don't think this show is a good fit for her. It works perfectly fine with the main characters it has now.
It's been said she'll be playing a police officer. So it's quite obvious she's going to be playing the detective replacing Bobby.

Hi everyone, I am from Georgia and I am also a huge fan of Life!! Have I missed something? Why is Crews getting another partner? Are they taking Dani off of the show? I sincerely hope not!! I think she is just beautiful and I think that their personalities perfectly balance each other very well. I don't quite understand the chemistry between Dani and their boss. He came on the show kind of pudgy with that slicked back, long greasy hair, but you could immediately see their chemistry. At least he finally got a haircut and no longer has greasy hair. Chemistry doesn't always make sense, lol, but I do like them together.

Dani is on a special assignment for the FBI (also Sarah Shahi is actually pregnant, so I think that's their cover for it) I think she'll be back after her assignment. Not sure why they are breaking up Crews & Stark. I kinda like them as a team.

Regular network stuff...they have to replace the sexy. Since Reese is hiding the baby behind desks, coats etc...they have to replace her with a hot woman for the show. That's the way those people think. I read that Union is only doing a 3 or 4 arc which means Reese will be back with Crews next year...if there is a next year.

actually I am forward to Gabrielle Union's joining the show. From what I seen of the previews and from the last two episodes the story arc is getting very interesting. Like most other people on this blog, I am hoping for a season three as well.
Give Gabrielle Union a chance, she's a very good actress!

Mar 15 2009, 04:26 AM
I don't know who Gabrielle is and so it's too soon for me to tell if I am for or against, but the way I see it is if they get someone who is too similar to Reese - in looks, personality, etc. - then we'd compare them to where we won't like said new person. On the same token, if they get someone completely different, maybe we won't compare so much, but we still won't like them. Why? Because we LOVE Reese! (the character and the actress).
I too liked the Bobby/Crews pairing. Not as much as Reese/Crews, but it worked for me as a temporary fill and was entertaining - Bobby's character is great! I really do hope she is coming back after her maternaty leave, if....I mean WHEN they renew the show. If she chooses not to come back, then we'll just have to deal, but again....hoping not the case and she comes back.

I have no opinion going into it. I do hope Reese comes back--I like her and I think she has really great chemistry with everyone. Plus the stuff with her dad and Charlie adds a wonderful dynamic to their partnership. It's crazy how much time they spend together and yet how little they communicate.
I don't like Bobby as Charlie's partner because he's an idiot. A well meaning idiot, yes, but still not very bright. Even Reese is rather slow at times, but I assume that's just to force Charlie to explain things to the audience. I think Gabrielle could be fun, if done well.
And from what I read, Reese's break was the actress' choice because the usual shooting hours are too long to work during pregnancy. And I'm all for equality, but as an actress, you have to expect that it is a bit distracting to be really pregnant when your character isn't supposed to be. That's the nature of the job. Especially in a show like this. If an 8 month pregnant detective was going into a shootout--that would just be weird--it would take me out of the scene.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to Gabrielle Union's character and hoping she'll be interesting. Though I have to think that she'll probably be there to help set up Charlie.

I for one am excited about Gabrielle Union doing these few episodes, I think she is a very talented actress who is also very easy on the eyes. I am looking forward to see her portrayal of a LAPD detective.
Can't wait, I put her on my top ten list of most beautiful actresses currently in Hollywood. Besides I feel that she would be a good romantic link with Crews. This isn't to say that I don't want to see Reese come back.

I'm just the opposite. I think Gabrielle is overrated and I'm just sick about her being on the show at all. Let's just hope that Dani comes back and saves the day. Gabrielle, I don't believe, can bring what it takes to make the partnership click. She's too immature an actress. So she's pretty...there are hundreds of good actresses who are better than her that have beauty...this show has so much more riding on it than looks.
At least we only have to suffer through her being on there 5 more times. I hope.

I'm an admirer of Union's beauty, but as an actress I don't think I've seen her do much since Bring It On, though I thought she was excellent in that. I'm willing to give her a chance.
Frankly, I've felt so let down by the season so far (although the last couple episodes have been better) that I think this show needs something to change things up. Watching Life this season has been like watching sand drain out of a conical bathtub.
There are a few shows I like that are underachivers in the ratings (Friday Night Lights is another), and if Life doesn't get better to watch, I won't be sorry to see it go.

I thought she blended in perfectly. I thought she might be crabby, and the usual irritated female type, like what Reese was in the beginning, instead she was nice, and cheerful.
I didn't like Gabrielle Union in Night Stalker. Again, more of the usual irritated female boss partner type. I hate watching cliché moody women cops in every dammed cop show. I've got enough of dealing with moody women in real life already.
Although , here in Life she was much better than I expected, and a perfect addition to the show. She was interesting, and unexpectedly charming. She's a bookworm, and a perfect kiss - a$$ which is kind of interesting to see Cruise have deal with.

I think Gabrielle Union is a very pretty girl and I enjoyed the episode with her in it... BUT I cannot wait to have Sarah back. I truly hope that Gabrielle will only be temporary. I will get bad feedback, but I am so tired of seeing the shows that start the season with certain people, then ruin it with bringing in other characters. That only worked with Boston Legal!!! Some examples: House, Eleventh Hour, CSI (especially when they have to add that token black). And sorry... but, do we have to be subjected to having the black man/white woman relationship that seems to be in every show now?
BVarkentine
Mar 19 2009, 11:36 PM
Well of course, in this case, it's not like the writers just decided to bring in another character. Sarah is pregnant, so they have to write around it.
I don't watch Eleventh Hour or CSI, but with House I think the problem is not that they brought in new characters. Rather that they never either cut the old ones loose or fully comitted to the new ones, so you get Chase and Cameron wandering around in this limbo.
Not sure what you mean about the black man/white woman relationship. Do you think Charlie and Jane are going to become lovers, or do you just mean their professional relationship? Either way, it doesn't bother me. Maybe we don't watch many of the same shows.

In House, the black man beds the white woman.... NOT FOR LOVE mind you (just to do it, I guess). Also, in the spin off of Grey's Anatomy (not sure the name of the show) I watched 2 episodes to see if I wanted to get into it and sure enough a black man beds a white woman..again NOT FOR LOVE. Another show "Dirty Sexy Money" ... black man/white woman , you guessed it... NOT FOR LOVE. I have watched 2 movies in the last month with black man/white woman relationships, one of which the relationship actually was the characters had feelings for one another, but it was an affair. I don't like more the fact that the couples are not in love than that they are black/white. But it seemed like the producers all had to jump on the band wagon to portray these relationships.
NO, i don't think that Crews and Jane will hook up. I actually like the chemistry that went on with Jane and Crews, that is what makes Life so well liked by me. I did not like the idea that Reese went and had an affair with Tidwell (I guess they have feelings, but probably not for love). I like the show because it has the chemistry between all characters and it is still about the jobs these characters have.
Quite often I find that shows ruin the plot by introducing sexual relationships into the shows, instead of just keeping the chemistry and camaraderie amongst the characters.

I said... "Quite often I find that shows ruin the plot by introducing sexual relationships into the shows, instead of just keeping the chemistry and camaraderie amongst the characters."... at the end of my comment and that is a big way I feel about shows. The angst between characters is a lot more fun to watch then characters haphazardly hooking up with each other just to get some sex. But alas, the writers have to come up with all kinds of things to try and keep the audience watching without losing too many along the way.
I am a fan, I will continue to watch it, unlike a few of the others I was a fan of and won't watch anymore because of the 2 things that bother me most now..."black man/white woman bedding for no reason" and "sex for the hell of it, that really doesn't need to be in the show".

I sure hope there's a next year! This is the best 60 minute drama on t.v. I really look forward to watching Life every week. As for Charlie's new partner, I think they tried to make her likable, but not too likable. Who can like someone who's so perfect? But, she's not a bitch, kinda vulnerable, so, she's sorta a little likable, sometimes. I want to hate her, but don't. Stark was way too likable, I don't think they want to split loyalty between Reese and Stark fans. With Union, they can take her out and bring both Reese and Stark back with no hard feelings. Everyone will be happy to see them again.
Damien Lewis is absolutely wonderful! I'm not a fan of the Dani and the captain relationship, and I hope they never romantically or sexually involve Dani and Charlie. Men and women can be just good friends. I love the show, and look forward to seeing where these characters go every week!

If you like Heroes and Terminator TSCC you should check out Summer Galu in Firefly on Hulu.
It’s a great si/if western that takes place in space. Joss Whedon is the creator and I guarantee if you watch the first four episodes you’ll be hooked for the next ten. (there are only 14)
You ( and everybody) should check it out, then come back here and tell me what you think. I’m putting a link below so it won’t cost you a dime. This tv series is from 2002 and is very entertaining and will fill the void of missing LIFE at the end on season 2. Oh, it also has Christina Hendricks (Olivia) from LIFE’s season one in it.

I agree that Firefly is worth the watch, as is the movie "Serenity" that came after - but I should warn you
that you'll be suspicious of Olivia's character from then on. Christina Hendricks made QUITE the impact as a
femme fatale. I know it's typecasting. I know. But she was SO GOOD at it.

I loved this show, at least I did until they brought in this new partner for Charlie. I get that this has something to do with the availability of the actress who plays Reese. I guess she's doing a movie, or pregnant (Which is usually the reason for this sort of thing), or something. I don't know and I don't care. I just want them to fix this, because I can't stand this new girl. I have tried to watch the last couple of episodes but there is no chemistry between her and him. I would rather watch Charlie all by himself, or maybe hanging with his ex-convict roommate than with this woman who has zero charm and personality. I would think it was a problem with the writing, that the character was not fully developed, but I think it's just that this actress is terrible. Does anyone agree?

That's right, Sarah Shahi, who plays Dani Reese is pregnant and this is the reason for this change.

sorry, but i don't agree. i love watching charlie and the captain stand around very amazed at how much she can do at one time. multi-tasking at its finest, someting men don't do very well. she is highly intelligent, a quick study and knows what the guys want before they do.

I prefer Dani, but GU is doing OK portraying her multitasking "better than real" character (FBI?) who seems very overqualified to be a detective - even one with a 15 year plan. I would have to think she is there to try to nail Charlie and won't be Charlie's partner for very long. Some of the scenes like the "she might be a robot" one have been pretty funny.

Well, I do miss Reese. But I think Gabriel was a great addition. Her over-achieving plan to be mayor is just hilarious. I like that she smiles so much and she doesn't seem phased by Charlie's Zen. But what I loved most was when she suddenly got kind of pissed. I was expecting that from Gabriel and it was probably why she was cast. When she's smiling and happy, she lights up the screen. But she can snap into bitchy persona that will make anyone want to hide.
She has a crush on Crews and he doesn't realize it. I wonder if they will do anything with that.
