I was a huge fan of Ian McShane in Deadwood, so I can not wait for this show to air.
I would pretty much watch anything that McShane does, albeit less swearing.
I started this wiki for the new KINGS TV show. No ads. Just good content. I am updating it when I have the chance. If you are interested in contributing, please do!

I agree. I think this show looks incredible. I'm currently finishing graduate work in International Affairs. One of the areas I've done research into is the establishment of governments both autocratic and democratic. I am very interested in seeing how well the writers/producers of this show manage to pull off a modern monarchy. If ,as the trailers advertise, the story follows the most powerful nation in the world, what will the international economic system look like? Will there be a free market economy? Will there be tensions between the educated urban middle class and the regime?
I realize that they may pay scant attention to these questions, but nonetheless I am really excited to give this show a shot.

Well, here's the first commercial break. Did anyone other than I notice that when they were looking for Samuel one minute or so out, someone said that he was supposed to give the "benediction" so they might want to postpone the ceremony? The "benediction" is given at the end, not the beginning of a ceremony. The "invocation" is given at the beginning. How much do they pay people who write/edit/proofread/review these things, and how could they not have caught that one? Worse, what does it portend for the future of this show?

Forgive me, I am new to this site...First of all, I fell in love with Ian McShane in Woody Allen's "Scoop"...
However, I have no idea what this show is about...What role does Ian play? I read a couple of the posts below and am understanding that this group (name) is controlling the chess pieces of a new govt...what govt??? Help! I dont want to lose interest because I am getting lost in the sauce...

There is a new novel series coming out soon about King David and his mighty men.
This is from the website
www.lionofwar.com :
QUOTE
996 B.C.
On a narrow strip of land surrounded by deserts and lonely mountains, a man is on the run. He has been accused of crimes he did not commit, he is being hunted relentlessly by a wicked king, and those who have come to his aid cannot be trusted. And while most men would collapse under the weight of such despair, this one is different. His name is David, and something drives him that other men will never understand...
Lion of War is a series of historical novels based on the stories of King David's Mighty Men, found in 2 Samuel 23 and 1 Chronicles 11. It is the result of extensive research and the dedication to capture, as authentically as possible, the sights, smells, and sounds of the ancient Biblical battlefield. Written by an army officer, the Lion of War series is the first Biblical fiction of its kind.
Powerful, gritty, and relentlessly exciting, Lion of War stands to challenge men everywhere.
The first book of the series "Day Of War" can be ordered right now through the webstore
www.lionofwar.com/storeThis looks to be a very promising novel series!

Lovin' this show...i thought it looked cliche at first until they made the Playboy prince Gay....now he has a chip on his shoulder that's gonna drive him even more. I loved the fact that David is a hero but he's not an epic hero, he has his faults and temptations. It will be interesting to see how he handles them.

Well, it seems that you folks don't mind that the story is a very distorted retelling of what is the basis of western civilization. I wonder if you'd be as happy about it if it was about a carpenter who suspects his wife of adultery

Some one of a similar path. Think of Silas as a Benevolent Dictator who has power because he lead his people out of ruin
it makes a bunch more sense

Now let's hope the audience agrees with these positive reviews.
If the audience has more than just a high school education and is over the age of thirty, then the show has a chance.
If the audience the producers is aiming at is 18 - 40 with only a high school education, then this wonderful new show won't last.
It is well written, well nuanced, and draws on themes and literary styles only the well read and educated will understand.
But, hey, I'm not a regular television viewer. I'm doing other things in the evenings. Looks like I'm going to be making time for KINGS.

I loved the show and found it by accident just surfing the channels. I have been looking for a good show to replace my beloved Jericho and I think I have found it. Ian McShane is great and I loved him in Deadwood so from what I saw last night this is a keeper and I will return for more each week.
Keep it snappy, interesting, full of the unknown and make sure I cannot figure out the plot.

I've been telling everyone at work about it. Sent them the link to watch it online and now they're hooked. I've got about five of 'em watching it now, and they'll be telling THEIR friends about it. I think word of mouth will spread pretty quick for this show. The church crowd will probably be talking about it next Sunday morning and I'm hoping it'll experience a ratings surge by the next episode.

Yes, the show could definitely use a surge in ratings in order to solidify its status as a great show. Unfortunately in today's age of 'big numbers or you're canceled' 6million viewers is not very good but then again they had some pretty fierce competition. You can't honestly expect a new show to beat Desperate Housewives. Let's hope the execs at NBC have as much faith in the show as they have led us to believe.

"Alternate history" is the commonly used phrase in science fiction circles to identify stories about alternate realities where it is clearly set here on Earth but something sometime in history went in a different direction. The something different could be a major event such as Hitler being assasinated before WWII started or go all he way back to a dinosaur stepping on that butterfly to get "the butterfly effect".

I love the alternate history and science fiction effect without all of the weird technology and alien stuff that you usually think of with science fiction. This is a real epic drama set in an alternate history, has that been done before? Very Cool!

I really like this show and i am hoping that NBC won't cancel it. It seems like they don't give much time to new shows to develop audience even though the show is good. And may be later on they will move it to another day because sunday is not good choice for new show.
PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL IT!!

I am glad to see others out there who think like me. I have never bothered joining a board, but this type of show inspires me and I want it to continue. I am sick of cops, criminals, lawyers, stupid sit-coms, and reality shows that lead people to exist with mind numbing pointlessness. People may have to actually pay attention and form a thought to follow this show. I am not religious at all, and I don't consider it a religious show, but I am intrigued with the concept and realize the stories and characters have the same eternal appeal that Shakespearean and mythological characters do
