With some of the other NBC shows, they post the music titles and artists. I'm hoping they will with this program as well. smile.gif

Song title and artist for the piece playing in the background at the end of the pilot as the officers and detectives go home for the night?

"Fake Empire" by The National

Does anyone know what the music is at the opening scene of the pilot? I'm really interested, since it sounded so familiar.

Thanks for taking the time to post that info

The music from the beginning of the show. Something from the 70's or early 80's...heavy and whiney harmonica....long song and lots of piano. Anybody know? It's on the tip of my tongue! Frustrating smile.gif

...and it's not Fake Empire or Orange Sky.....

As a devoted fan of The National it was surreal to hear Fake Empire close the pilot episode of the replacement to dearly departed ER. Too bad the NBC web site is so dang-un-user-friendly or I would've submitted a full post but after jumping all the nonsensical hurdles I've lost the patience to write my critique of the show. Oh well. Good song.
BopperStopper
The song is "School" by the 70's band Supertramp.

I loved the song at the end of the episode. I thought it might be Nick Cave but no, huh?

Thought the music at the opening of the show set the right tone. Great job!

"Cançao do Mar" by a portuguese singer called - Dulce Pontes this song with opening Southland - music instrumental
Bud_23
The very first few seconds of the pilot (when the title shows up) it's a French song called "Elle, tu l'aimes - Helene Segara". The version played on the show is instrumental.

Hi! I'm Natalie, in northern California. I've just watched the first episode of Southland and I think it's fantastic...can't wait for the next one. Does anyone know how to find out about the music on the show? The last song, as the show was ending, really captivated me. Maybe someone out there knows who the singer was, or the title of the song?

What's the name of the rap song being played in the background of the gangsters in the background scene. Towards the end of the movie. Thanks..
SouthlandDOTLA
After listening to the music for a second time, we've come to the conclusion that it might be better to play the music a little longer while running the credits. Great music deserves to be heard!

Cheers

Thanks for sharing. What a beautiful song, and a great selection for "Southland." Kind of eerie with the crime photos but appropriate for a cop drama.

For a second I thought it was David Byrne's "My Fair Lady." tongue.gif

does anyone know what song they used in the preview for the show on Thursday night? it was in one of the commercials during The Office. it was pretty quick, but it had some violins in it & then a beat came in. sounded like a cool song. I haven't had a chance to watch the show yet from this week, so i'm not sure if they used it then too or not...

is the english version, which, in my opinion is a little bit better, but maybe it's a personal bias due to being form the United States. I really like arabian music, though. It's Harem by Sarah Brightman.

Does anyone know what the music in the fist few seconds of the Trailer is: It's a bizarre sitar or something. It's the trailer that listed on Youtube under Southland Tralier season 1.01 - Canadian Version

Actually, the song was first sang by Amália Rodrigues a Portuguese worldwide known singer back in 1955 in a movie called Solidão(Loneliness). In 1993 Dulce Pontes, another Portuguese singer, recorded it. That version entered Richard Gere movie, Primal Fear.

This is one of the most known songs on the universe of Fado - a Portuguese type of music.
In fact this song as Arabic influences. But both Portuguese versions are without doubt better..please try to listen to them and you'll ...feel.

By the way, the song speaks about the sea, the one that takes the lives of the fishermans, the loved ones.
