THE FUTON'S FIRST LOOK: "SOUTHLAND" (NBC) The Futon Critic posted the first review for Southland. Read it here (spoilery!)
http://www.thefutoncritic.com/rant.aspx?id...90401_southlandKristin Eonline Spoiler ChatSuzanne in Hickory, N.C.: Any scoop on the series finale of one of the greatest shows of all time, ER?
Shane West told E! News, “I do know the punch line for the finale…and it’s something that everybody [should] tune in and watch. They end it very well.” BTW, the pilot for Southland (the time-slot successor to ER), starring Ben McKenzie, is awesome. You will definitely still have something good to watch on NBC at 10 p.m. after ER goes off the air.
http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with...l_guest_in.htmlMidseason TV Preview: What Should You Watch?SOUTHLAND (NBC) - Thursday, April 9, 10 p.m.
Cast: Benjamin McKenzie, Tom Everett Scott, Regina King, Michael Cudlitz, Kevin Alejandro, Arija Bareikis
Ben Sherman (Ben McKenzie) is a rookie cop who’s being shown the ropes by his partner, John Cooper (the great Michael Cudlitz). As he learns about the streets and struggles with a cop’s life in L.A., which includes shooting a man dead on his first shift, the audience learns along with him. As McKenzie says, “This [cop's life] is a way of being. This is a tribe you are entering, and you are going to do it for the rest of your life, or [you are going to] die doing it.”
Verdict: With this cast, a John Wells gritty cop drama in ER’s old time slot is almost an unbeatable proposition.

From the show’s website:
BEN MCKENZIE (“Southland”): He was the dreamy one on “The O.C.”! Actually, that may not narrow it down, but I do know he’s handsome. Now he’s starring as a rookie cop on the new series “Southland”… from the creators of “ER”! And he’s such a gentleman! Last time he was here, he brought me some homemade guacamole! (I’ve got my fingers crossed that tortilla chips are next!) He also told about the abandoned pit bull named Oscar that he adopted — and I can’t wait to get an update!

WOW ! ................ I just read the LA Times review online. Not great. I don't so much mind that the reviewer didn't care for the show. What bothers me is that they were obviously NOT paying attention. So many things she says are just wrong. If you get a chance look it up online. If you agree with me let her know. Don't be rude just let her know how you feel. This show is going to depend on people who don't watch NBC coming over and taking a peek. Reviews bring people in who might not have seen the ads. Let her know she got it wrong.
We did this kinda thing for Jericho and it worked.

Here are some more interviews you might find interesting from a Police Officer Screening of "Southland" on NBC.EPK.TV. View the clips
here.Do you know if this footage from the police screening gonna be aired with the pilot or anything? This might sound silly but I'm the guy working in the dark blue shirt in concession stand in the background and I wanna know if I'll be on TV, even if it is just for a couple of seconds

. I helped distribute popcorn, soda, and candy for everyone who attended. I didn't really recognize anyone (in terms of actors) since I wasn't really familiar with the show or actors, but my co-worker did recognize and point out McKenzie to me. I just watched the pilot on Hulu and I loved it

. I haven't checked out the other interviews though. And it looks like they didn't air this footage with the pilot tonight

Thanks!
Maybe this will lead to a full season. In such uncertain times, 13 is definitely good news. We can still hope for great, but one step at a time.
Hopefully tomorrow (Monday) we will find out where exactly NBC plans to place Southland on their schedule and when it will start. I know 13 isn't the best but I am so relieved to hear it is coming back and will take anyting I can get at this point. I know all 7 episodes are done filming, so I am hoping Ann Biderman, John Wells and NBC take a good long look at what worked in our precious 7 eipsodes and do the right thing in getting the McKenzie/Cudlitz pairing back to center stage where they belong!

NBC ANNOUNCES 2009-2010 PRIMETIME SCHEDULE BOLSTERED BY MORE ORIGINAL PROGRAMMING THAN EVER BEFORE
Published: May 19, 2009
Shared Time Period Strategy Around NBC’s Broadcast of 2010 Winter Olympics Along with Jay Leno at 10 p.m. Enables Network to Broadcast Original Programming Year-Round
Network Renews Returning Series "Law & Order" and "Chuck"
NEW YORK -- May 19, 2009 – NBC announced today its 2009-2010 schedule featuring more original programming than ever before and a shared time-period strategy around NBC’s Olympics platform that, along with "The Jay Leno Show" (Mondays-Fridays 10-11 p.m. ET), allows the network to broadcast all-new content year-round.
In addition, NBC issued renewals to "Law & Order" and "Chuck" (see accompanying release) as part of its strong slate of new and returning shows announced recently at the network’s highly successful Infront.
"NBC has picked up more scripted shows than last season even with 'The Jay Leno Show' at 10 p.m.," said Ben Silverman, Co-Chairman, NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios. "We’re incredibly excited about our new and returning series and have more comedy programming than anyone else, as well as two of the most buzzed about new shows, 'Community’ and ‘Parenthood.’ We can’t wait for the fall."
"We are extremely proud to introduce these strong new series to NBC's schedule next season in strategic timeslots that position them for success," said Angela Bromstad, President, Primetime Entertainment, NBC and Universal Media Studios. "They join some of the highest quality returning shows on television, which will serve as a strong foundation to the new schedule. I think viewers are going to be happy to see this lineup of great new shows that will truly fit the NBC legacy of quality, culturally defining shows."
NBC’s shared time period strategy will kick off this fall on Mondays with the premiere of "Heroes" (8-9 p.m. ET) continuing with all originals before "Chuck" assumes the time period after the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, which will be a powerful launching platform with its broad, female appeal and strong ratings as the most-watched event of the year. Using "NBC Sunday Night Football's" potent promotional platform, the new high-octane drama "Trauma" will debut Mondays (9-10 p.m. ET) with the epic event series "Day One" taking over the time period following the Olympics.
NBC’s successful "The Biggest Loser" series continues Tuesdays (8-10 p.m.) and will help launch the new Wednesday lineup this fall, with the new family drama "Parenthood" debuting (8-9 p.m. ET) and the new hospital drama "Mercy" assuming the time period post-Olympics. "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" will air 9-10 p.m. ET following ‘Parenthood.’
NBC’s Thursday marquee comedy night will begin with the only live comedy between 8-10 p.m. on any network, "Saturday Night Live Weekend Update Thursday" (8-8:30 p.m. ET), followed by "Parks and Recreation" (8:30-9 p.m. ET), "The Office" (9-9:30 p.m. ET) and the new comedy "Community" (9:30-10 p.m. ET). After "Saturday Night Live Weekend Update Thursday" completes its multi-week run, "Community" will move to 8 p.m. and "30 Rock" will debut at 9:30 p.m., enabling NBC to feature more original comedy than ever before.
On Fridays in the fall, the enduring drama "Law & Order" will return for its record 20th season (tying "Gunsmoke" as the longest running drama series in primetime) and will lead off at 8-9 p.m. (ET) while "Southland" follows at 9-10 p.m. (ET), building a great crime block.
Saturdays will be a showcase for "Dateline NBC" (8-9 p.m. ET) and encore episodes of "Trauma" (9-10 p.m. ET) and "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (10-11 p.m. ET).
"Football Night in America" (7-8:20 p.m. ET) and "NBC Sunday Night Football" (8:20-11 p.m. ET) – the number one show of the fall -- will return on Sundays in the fall with a fan-pleasing schedule of games to round out the fall season.
Utilizing the compatible demographics provided by the Olympics, NBC will launch the premieres of "The Marriage Ref" from executive producers Jerry Seinfeld and Ellen Rakieten ("Oprah") on Sundays (8-9 p.m. ET) and the third season premiere of "The Celebrity Apprentice" on Sundays with two-hour editions (9-11 p.m. ET). In addition, the new comedy "100 Questions" will debut on Tuesdays (9:30-10 p.m. ET) following a 90-minute edition of "The Biggest Loser" (8-9:30 p.m. ET).
And coming in the summer, NBC will telecast all original episodes of “The Jay Leno Show,” "Friday Night Lights," "America's Got Talent," "Breakthrough with Tony Robbins," "Dateline NBC," with additional programs to be announced later.
To catch up on season finales, watch new "Heroes" and "The Office" web series, and more, please log onto NBC.com.

Thanks for posting the schedule. I'm honestly not sure what to make of "Southland's" day and time right now and what that means. One of the slots M-W would have been preferrable. Then again, with no more 10:00, there are limited options. On a positive note, it wasn't given Saturday for first run episodes. Pairing it with "Law & Order" might capture some of the same audience, although even with a basic crime theme, one is more of a formulaic detective show, and the other, "Southland," is supposed to be a character driven drama.
Hopefully, there will be some great writing, a strong focus for the show, and a real show of support from the network. That can only help to build and sustain a loyal audience.

Shaun,
This was a really good interview. It's always so much better when you can tell the person conducting the interview actually watches the show and asks interesting questions. The part about airing opposite of Medium in the fall was good and enjoyed the funny comments at Daisy's expense!
I actually heard about it somewhere else and listened this morning before work, great way to start my day. It was nice to hear Ben alongside Michael for this interview.
Ben and Michael both gave some great insight into their own characters as well as each others. They seem to get along really well, and are truly pleased with and committed to Southland
I will definitely be tuning in tonight, as well as DVR'ing it, and the same for Saturday. I have great faith in this show to be a long running success, I just hope more people give it a chance. Not sure if NBC will rerun it over the summer, but I think they should.
I
Hoping they do many more interviews over the summer hiatus. Thanks for the link.

Don't know how to post a link to the EW.com site but Micheal cudlitz was mentioned as a hopeful for Emmy nod with Sean Hatosy. He Twittered the link. If someone knows how to do that it would be cool. Also Ben and Regina got a mention in the La times couple weeks ago. Very excited for the next season.

He's funny.... and she looks like she might have a crush on him... couldn't keep her hands off. LOL. All the cast looks great. And I know I, for one REALLY want this show back on the air. Thank goodness for reruns. At least there is something good to watch this summer.
