Has anyone ever noticed that in 3 seasons (unless I'm mistaken), the Panthers have played a total of two games in the rain, both of which sent them to State. More importantly, they also set up important storylines for the show. In the first, Mud Bowl, Tyra is attacked during the game which sets up her friendship with Landry and the murder story of the next season. The next, A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall, is when JD's dad hits him, which ends the Taylor's relationship with the McCoy's and eventually sends Eric to East Dillon (assuming that Joe wanted Eric fired in retaliation to the CPS call and not because he wanted more control).

Just thought that was interesting. Thoughts?

Well it rains a lot in Texas in the fall. We get most of our rain in the fall. It really might be kind of weird if none of the shows had rain in them. When it rains here it really rains.

Amen. . .to that. There's a sayin' about Texas weather. If you don't like it today wait a day cuz it will be different tomorrow. Hot to cold. Dry as a bone to fallin' a flood. Yep, we get all that moisture from the Gulf. That recharges and creates weather systems across the state. Anyhoo, I agree about the rain playing a part on the show.

Not only the Mud Bowl and the McCoy ~ Taylor Feud were in the rain. But other scenes too. The very sweet scene with Tim and Gracie Bell. As he plays airplane with her and looks out the window at the hard rain falling. And Tim's scene with Julie as they drive to the store in the pourin' rain to buy formula for Gracie Bell. They had very sweet conversation about goin' to the dance and Matt. Tim even turns the radio down as they chat. Then while at the store he protects her from the tornado with those arms. Those glorious arms.

The scene at Jason's birthday party. Then Julie see's Matt kissing the cheerleader. She and Tyra are walking back to Tyra's truck. And Tyra sees it Matt kissing too. And takes Julie by the hand and says. "How about we get some ice cream. Watch Thelma and Louise and cry our eyes out?" Julie nods and says yes. The scene ends with the two girls holding hands walking in a light rain in the dark.

And the scene with Tim and Landry as Landry reads "Of Mice and Men" to Tim. While the two sit in an empty football stadium. I'm not sure if it had rain but sky was over cast and cloudy. Which I thought added to the bleak mood between the boys. At the time Tim felt so bad about Jason's accident. And Landry was so frustrated with Tim's reluctance to embrace the similarities between Tim and Jason and the characters in the book. Awesome scene.

The powder puff football game was played under a cloudy sky. Which I thought added to Tyra and Lyla's run in. With Tyra wagging her finger in Lyla's face. "You're not gonna win this game." Made an impression on Lyla. And later on she asked Jason if she was spoiled. He answered " maybe a little." Which seemed to surprise Lyla. Anyhoo, just a few thoughts.

Ok. . . How 'bout rain durin' football practice. Remember that awesome scene in "Wind Sprints" when Coach rounds up the team at nite. Loads them on a bus. Takes them to the middle of nowhere. And makes them run Wind sprints in the rain. Up and down the hill. Until they get sick. Huffin' and puffin' and upchuckin'. And Coach hollers at them about who they really are. Not stars but his players. And how they will play by his rules. And the Boy's begin to chant "Full eyes. . .Clear Hearts. . .Can't Lose" And holler "GO. . .GO" And start running back up the hill. Splashin' through the water and the fallin' rain in the dark of nite. The scene ends with Coach holdin' his ground. Standin' right in the center of the boys as they run past him in the fallin' rain. One of the Best scenes ever.

One thing fer sure Coach likes the rain. It doesn't seem to bother him. In the last game they played in the rain. He told the boys to relax "It's a beautiful nite for football" as it falls a flood all around them. I gotta tell ya it made me smile.

Completely agree. That "Wind Sprints" episode hooked me on this show and that was one of the best scenes in that episode and in FNL Season 1.

Overall, I would say that when it is raining in FNL there will usually be a purpose to it.
