I'm new to the show (this was literally my first day to watch it after an old friend recommended it), but I really feel like commenting on the fine qualities that James Scott brings to the show as an actor. Yes, Scott is very, very handsome, but he also seems so far to me like an impressively talented actor. He brought a believable quality of desperation to today's script. I don't really understand the characters or the plot very well yet, but he brought to life a deeply flawed character that I found compelling. He seemed to bring a real method actor's feeling to the role, which must be pretty exhausting for him emotionally and physically to do every day. But his performance today was entertaining and cathartic to watch in that way that makes for good tv drama. He knows how to chew up the scenery, as they say.

I looked up the Emmy nominations for Days (or DOOL, I guess I should call it), and unless I'm missing something James Scott wasn't nominated. That seems really an oversight and a darn shame.

Finally, there seemed to be quite a look of intelligence to his eyes, even though his character doesn't seem to be making many smart choices right now, and I found his little blog where he chats intelligently about the history of religion, environmental issues, animal rights, etc.

Anyway, I'm impressed. He is one of my favorites on the show so far.

Anyone else have thoughts on Scott as an actor?

I'm been reading the posts on this board and enjoying them, although many I don't really understand yet. Is there a place somewhere on this website to watch old episodes? Or on youtube??

Best, Benjamin

Welcome!
Days is a great Soap to watch. And yes, James Scott is an excellent actor.
LaBellaDawna
Yes James Scott is an amazing actor. FYI he wasn't nominated because he didn't submit anything. He said that he didn't feel like anything he did last year was worthy to submit.

Hello and welcome to the boards and to DOOL!
Yes you are right, James is a talented and thoughtful actor and i think he is a great asset to the show. Someone mentioned on another board that James uses subtle movements and gestures to convey deeper emotions that could contradict what he is saying and someone who takes time to put these things in his acting means that he is thinking and takes his role seriously.
James didnt think that he was good enough for an emmy, which i love about him because he is so humble. You can look up past eps on youtube... i dont have any links but im sure someone would post it up here for you.
Hope you enjoy the show!

There are many fine actors/actresses on this show but you are so right about James Scott. Without a doubt he has been the best addition to this cast in ever so many years. It is pure joy to watch him in any scene, his mannerism, his facial expressions, his stature, every movement is calculated to enhance the scene he is in and to complement the actor he is playing off. His face can convey joy, anger, cynicism, any emotion with a moments notice. Never have I seen an actor so compelling and mesmerizing. On top of that he is so handsome and charming and this applies to him in real life. He is involved in many worthwhile charities and foundations and yet always has time for charity events and when you are there he makes you feel so special like you are the only person there. He is a treasure and I hope we get to keep him but I think the big screen will be calling him.

Welcome to the board and hope you enjoy posting, your post was wonderful. The show has a rich history and hopefully it will return to its former glory of years gone by.

James is ok,not my favorite, but he does alright with some of the crap he is given.

OldAnnie i hope your right! I want to see James on primetime when Days is over... or in the movies. Damn that man could give Brad Pitt a run for his money... and Angelina

I think James Scott is the only daytime actor who is talented enough to reach further than daytime! The rest are just that "Daytime" actors; they have reached their high point. I think in the next couple of years JS will be out of there and flying high! The rest are typical "soap" only actors, this guy has it all. He is extremely handsome, and amazingly talented. We love the character of EJ, but I think JS needs to run like the wind off this show and into primetime. He is in a league way above the actors on DOOL he has to play opposite. When his contract is up, this guy needs to move UP!!

Thanks annie (and everyone) for the warm welcome. I'm a teacher, and so can't really watch during the school year (don't have tivo), but during the summer maybe I will. It's been one of those stressful years, but that's what's good about drama--it sure can take you out of yourself and put the challenges of your life in perspective.

I agree. I think the big screen is calling. Would hate to lose him from the show, but I actually hope so. Could he do both? Guess it's really one or the other most of the time.

And you've met him! He does sound like a really nice human being, which is tough to do sometimes in a town like Hollywood.

Finally, you pointed out something that's true and interesting--the range of his acting, the range of the emotions expressed. And frankly he's sometimes taking some scripts and lines that aren't really Shakespeare and making them into something with real emotion, which I imagine is tricky.

Funny! Who is your favorite? I also really like Suzanne Rogers. And the young woman who is in the morgue (don't know her name or character's name yet) seems to be bringing some acting to her horrible situation.

sjga: so new to the show that I can't really comment on the other actors, but I think I agree with you here about JS. Would hate to lose him, but I think he needs a starring role in a major series. The only thing is that those are obviously so dicey. How many prime time shows get picked up for more than 13 episodes. But maybe that's worth the risk.

MissSavvii: Thanks for your post. I agree with the subtle quality. May sound silly, but I hope his character turns out to be more good than bad. I don't want him to be really evil! Seriously flawed would be better.

OK. Haven't found a full episode with him in it, but I did find a clip of what looked to be maybe his intro to the show. Blond woman comes up (sami??) and he answers the door in a skimpy towel. Quite a physique! And then he smiles and raises one eyebrow and smiles. "Are you British? Yes, the last time I checked!" Love it! Maybe not a great "acting moment" but great entertainment!
oldannie
from the moment he opened that door and raised that eyebrow, I knew we had a winner finally on this show. He is positive testimony that God is there and God is good. What this man doesn't have, he doesn't need. Try to find a YouTube of when he taught Sami how to dance the Tango and another one when they got caught in a rain storm and took refuge in an empty house. Also there is another one when he goes to church and confesses before God. All are very powerful. We had another actor on the show Thaao Penghlis who played his brother, he is another superb actor and when those two were in a scene together. It just couldn't get any better.

I think James is beyond amazing. I just adore him and will follow him to whatever he does next. Never have I seen a soap actor that stood out like he does and a lot of haters would say it's because I think he's cute, but that's absolutely not it for me. I mean, yes I think he's handsome, but there are several GORGEOUS men on the show who are just as handsome as he is. James has something else that makes him special and that's called talent. I hope I see him next on the big screen!!! He's got the "it" factor. His talent, looks and charisma leave me in awe. I can't believe he isn't doing something bigger already. He should be awarded an Emmy whether he submits something or not! He's the best, imo. Welcome to the boards, Benjamin!

Hi Glad you are enjoying the board, the show and James. I am sure there are people who can point you to the best of his clips and interviews.

I wanted to let you know that just recently there was a big announcement made that James Scott is not on the web anywhere, no blogs, my space, facebook, website, or twitter. Nothing you find is the "Real" James Scott, there are imposters doing all the web things.

Besides all the wonderful things we say about him, there is one thing maybe we should have said also - The man has class. He never boasts about himself, doesn't claim to be the lover of the century, doesn't even understand why he is alway voted the sexiest, most handsome, etc, and best of all he always gives credit to his co-stars for the work they do. He is a very classy gentleman. It's not always about the looks, there are many good looking people on this and other shows but he just outshines them all by being the person that he is and for being as talented as he is. He'd make a great James Bond.

Aha! So you agree with most EJamis (portmenteau for EJ and Sami) with wanting EJ grey. We love his evilness as much as we love his good side and to us, Sami is the one who does this for him because their personalities are similar. But i dont want to give you a biased view on things, id rather you make up your own mind.
You mention the famous EJ and Sami towel scene. Their first meeting. Its a classic. And the point where ladies fell in love with EJ for the very first time, for obvious reasons! Do you know the whole EJ background?
The young woman you mention in the morgue is Stephanie Johnson. Daughter of Steve "Patch" Johnson and Kayla Brady. Played by Shelly Hening(?). Ex Miss Teen USA. Beauty and talent.

Thanks, SafeDreamin for the tip. That's strange and shocking.

The James Scott blog I found thought is on this very nbc site. It even has some pix of him on a trip. It doesn't look fake, but maybe I've been fooled. I'll try to put a quote in from it and a link:

"Welcome from James Scott!
January 18, 12:56 PM

Hi ,

Welcome to my blog.

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas or Holiday – personally I celebrated Christmas – I am not a Christian, but as it’s a delineation of a pagan festival I am giving myself a get out of jail free card on this one.

(The date of December 25th probably originated with the ancient "birthday" of the son-god, Mithra, a pagan deity whose religious influence became widespread in the Roman Empire during the first few centuries A.D. Mithra was related to the Semitic sun-god, Shamash, and his worship spread throughout Asia to Europe where he was called Deus Sol Invictus Mithras. Rome was well-known for absorbing the pagan religions and rituals of its widespread empire. As such, Rome converted this pagan legacy to a celebration of the god, Saturn, and the rebirth of the sun god during the winter solstice period. The winter holiday became known as Saturnalia and began the week prior to December 25th. The festival was characterized by gift-giving, feasting, singing and downright debauchery, as the priests of Saturn carried wreaths of evergreen boughs in procession throughout the Roman temples.)

For the second year I opted to neither give nor receive gifts. Instead, I made donations to various charities on behalf of those who would otherwise have received gifts and encouraged others to do the same. There are a lot of organizations that offer this, my favorite, and my main source of gifts, is a great organization called Heifer International. Here you can purchase a variety of animals that are then donated to struggling communities in the developing world. From chickens (or chicks) to cows and goats I love this organization and encourage all of you to consider it when the time comes next year.

I have not yet decided how to use this ‘blog’ there is so much to say in so little space so I think I will mix it up a little, so there will be some personal stuff, some work stuff and anything else that falls in between from opinion to commentary. It’s going to be an great year and I am very much looking forward to 2008 both personally, with my upcoming wedding, and professionally - who knows what is happening there, but its certainly going to be an interesting year.

Check in again soon,
James"

annie: yes, he does seem very classy. To me he'd make a great Darcy in Pride and Prejudice. Bond too, of course, but that would be a step down imho!

Seems like a nice person, as well as being a natural when it comes to acting (although I'm sure it's a lot of work too). As you say, it's not just about looks. I'm sure a lot of us remember some amazingly beautiful guy or gal in high school who was actually somewhat creepy and/or mean on the inside. Or, maybe just blah on the inside. He seems to have an inner quality of character and intelligence that comes out.

MissSavii: Yes, I guess I might possibly be an EJami, because the woman he's with now (what's her name) really creeps me out. She's a good actress, but her character seems like a really rotten apple. She's maybe the one (along with his dad?) who has made him bad. Has he done most of his bad things out of his sense of duty to them? I don't need him to be all good--a little streak of the rogue or even a touch of evil is ok. But I'm not sure how much I can take. What's the worst thing he's done? I probably don't want to know!

I'm still pretty lost. I'm still trying to figure out who the characters are and what's happening.

Anyway, I need to look up who plays Sami and what character she is before I can say whether I have any EJami tendencies.

It's nice to have people on this board who are passionate about their characters and couples, but can agree to disagree.

Heres some research on the man EJ

This one is a good detailed history of EJ and Sami, better than the wiki one

Can i just add something about Lucas, I DONT LIKE HIM.

James Scott is one if not the best actor ever to be on this or any other soap or show. He is incredible. The other guys don't even come close to him. This man knows how to use his voice, his hands, his eyes, every movement to perfection. There are a couple that just look so wooden and forced on this show but not James. He is the REAL DEAL.
Princess_Jenna

To the OP, James is an amazing actor and I do believe that someday he will move on to bigger and better things. It will be a sad day for DOOL when that happens!

As for my fixation on Lucas I have none, just bring up the obvious which some wish to ignore. I have met Bryan many times and he has been so nice to me and my family. Couldn't have asked to be treated any more nicely than he did, we spent quite a bit of time visiting and there were no other women mobbing him or trying to get at him. I have gobs of pictures with him and I enjoyed the time spent with him. He really sounded happy being paired with Chloe. Most of the women at the one event were mobbing Dr. Dan, the first Shawn D, Jason Cook and Brandon Beemer. James wasn't there but another event, you couldnt even see the end of the line were James was and the other line was relatively short.
