UTHER
Played by Anthony Head
Anthony Head enjoyed a successful acting career in his native England before coming to the attention of American audiences in the series Love in a Cold Climate, which aired in the USA on PBS in 1982. He was a regular cast member on Fox's short-lived sci-fi series VR.5 (1995) and also acted in an episode of ABC's critically-acclaimed NYPD Blue and the Showtime movie Royce (1994), starring James Belushi.
He upped his American profile considerably by landing the regular role of Rupert Giles, the school librarian who doubles as mentor to "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."
He divides his time between Los Angeles and London and since "Buffy" finished, he has appeared in many TV productions including Doctor Who and the cult comedy series Little Britain.

Where are all of the Buffy fans? Anthony is amazing in this series. Having watched him in Buffy and Doctor Who I knew he could act, but this, to me, is a departure and he is just ruthless. I love it! I would love to relate my favorite bit, but will wait as that episode hasn't aired yet.

Never been into BTVS, but I love AH as Uther Pendragon. He has a commanding stance, and kingly poise. Perfect casting. When I first heard the plot for the series I expected Uther to be an alright baddie, so I was impressed when he proved to be a gray area character. One you could feel for and understand despite his temper and clouded judgment.

Anthony Head has always been one of my favorite actors. I especially enjoyed his role as Rupert Giles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Ironically, I had watched two of the Merlin episodes before I realized that Anthony Head was playing the part of Uther. He morphed into the character so perfectly, that I did not recognize him at first…as his role is so unlike anything that I’ve seen him play previously.
Outstanding job of casting! Another reason to keep watching Merlin.

He was wonderful on Buffy. Was very pleased to see him cast as King and think he is doing a splendid job.

Anthony Stewart Head is one of my favorite actors. Couldn't be happier with him being on the show. Any "fans" of his should REALLY watch the UK Doctor Who episode that he is in... Its brilliant.

I am a very big fan of Anthony Head. I have enjoyed all of the roles I have seen him in especially as Uther. For those of you who may be fan's of his check out his voice in Repo the Genetic Opera! He was excellent.
Has anyone else found the humor of Rupert Giles and Uther Pendragon being polar opposits?!

BIG Buffy fan, loved both Giles and Uther, I think both of them are complete opposites, that's true. I love it. I don't think there's been an ASH char that I haven't loved.

I love how Uther is portrayed by ASH. What a fantastic character you'd love to hate, but just can't make yourself stay mad long. The character's choices are difficult and just when you'd like to make things black or white you realize this character's whole world is shades of gray.

I love this show and especially Uther Pendragon. Hope for a second season -- I've really enjoyed watching Merlin and all the magical stuff in Camelot. Great actors all.

I think Anthony Head is utterly convincing as Uther. And, while he is quite despicable and paranoid at times, the character is also strangely sympathetic and insightful. Further, with the actor's commanding presence and voice, and all that leather and metal, King Uther is, to my middle-aged eyes, a real turn-on. Kudos to whoever thought of his always wearing glove: one image can say so much.

Anthony, as with all the cast, is great playing this character. It's taken time, but this character has come from a one-demensional(?) baddie to an interesting "shades of grey" character. Much like most of this series, this is a character that was a slow burner! I can only see the second series developing further and becoming even better.
An interesting, thoughtful, well produced (and, at times, comedic) entertainment! Why can't all tv shows be like this. Viewers of the world, unite - demand quality shows! :-)
Hope to see you all next year.
