MERLIN

Played by Colin Morgan

Rising star Colin Morgan has had a phenomenal young career and has landed the lead role in "Merlin." The young actor was still in drama school when he was cast by director Rufus Norris to make his professional debut in the title role of last year's premiere page-to-stage adaptation of DBC Pierre's Booker Prize winner Vernon God Little at the Young Vic, London.
Morgan immediately followed that up with another adaptation across the road at the Old Vic, in Samuel Adamson's screen crossover of Pedro Almodovar's Oscar-winning Spanish film "All About My Mother" in which he played Esteban, son to Lesley Manville, in a cast that also featured Dame Diana Rigg and Mark Gatiss.
Off-stage, Morgan managed to find the time for filming an episode of Doctor Who and to appear on TV in Catherine Tate's Christmas Special.

I am so excited for him... I really love his acting and think he is doing a WONDERFUL job... I can't wait for the next episode!!!

I agree, he's very charismatic and makes the character so sweet and charming, yet brave. It is the lead role and if he's anything less than great then the whole show would flail. Thankfully though he's more than excellent. I actually think all the cast brings positive things to their roles but the two boys are especially watchable.

If you ever chance to see an interview with Colin Morgan be prepared for a shocker.... In real life he has a heavy Irish accent, sounding nothing like Merlin. When you see Colin as himself you realize just how much of a talented actor he is.... lol

Very good actor!

I know! The first time I heard him speak and found out he was from Northern Ireland, I was like "What?!!" There is no way if you didn't know where he was from that you would guess he was putting on his 'Merlin' voice. Even though I do know and have heard the actor speak I still never heard any of his accent bleed through.

LOL, Yeah I agree. I've never noted an odd accent slipping through during Colin playing Merlin. Really amazing.

I like that Merlin is being portrayed as a fairly normal youth (IMO) I mean, if I was doing a young Merlin I probably would have been temped to cast someone weird. I personally found Merlin to be the character that the viewer has an automatic connection with... this would have been a task if he had seemed more 'wizard' than 'human'. smile.gif

Colin and Bradley are great choices for Merlin and Arthur. Perfect for the roles. I love the guys and they are so fun to watch. That is interesting on his accent. I hear a little British one on the show and thought he was British. It is amazing when they can change their accents like that and do it for so long on a show. I heard an actress on Y&R did the same thing and is faking a British accent. They do a good job. Colin is a great Merlin and he is charming and nice looking. Perfect Merlin but I pictured Merlin older. lol The reason why I watch the show is for them. I'm so glad the US is getting a chance to see them now. It's like a tv Harry Potter but Merlin. I still can't get over the shows been on two seasons in the UK and we are just now getting it. I've never heard that done before but I am so glad they did bring the show to us. Good job nbc. And it's great to know it won't get axed after a few shows. Every time I like a show this much, it spells doom, and it gets canned in a few weeks. I think that is not the case here. Thank goodness. It survived that.

Who is the name of the girl who played Sophia Sunday, July 19, 2009? She was Merlin's girlfriend?

I wasn't anyones girlfriend. It was an enemy that was after Aurthor.

Her name was Holliday Grainger.

I was "old school" Merlin/Camelot until ~ 3 weeks ago. Now, after seeing the last four episodes of season 1, I'm planning on purchasing the DVD set of Merlin when available! Goodness, what a refreshing spin on Camelot!

Colin Morgan is tremendous! Heavens, how his Merlin has captured my heart. The enthusiasm, exuberance really, that Colin revealed (in a video interview) while describing his happiness to be involved with this project was downright contagious. I'm now as impressed with this young actor as I am with a new twist on a beloved character.

I look forward to many more seasons of Merlin.

Long Live Camelot! smile.gif

(Thank you to TPTB for this breath of fresh air in network TV.)

Agreed! I've looked forward to Merlin every Sunday night since it aired in the summer - what a find for me and what a difference for network TV! I hope this series is renewed next season - NBC is more about developing stories and audience than the other networks (Friday Night Lights) - so I'm very hopeful.

Who else has seen him in the episode of Doctor Who called "Midnight"? I love him in that, very emo kid, and very sexy XD look out for when he says "in the middle of nowhere" after the train breaks down, its truly the most hilarious face you will ever see him make XD
