......................................................FAQ

About the Show:

* The theme song is titled \"Proud\" by Heather Smalls. Other music featured on the show will generally be posted in the NBC Extras.

* The armband that that the contestants wear is the bodybugg® and you can talk about it on this thread.

* Contestants work out around 7 hours a day.

* There are generally 7-10 days between weigh-ins.

* The formula to figure out percentage of weight loss is: (pounds lost/starting weight) x 100. For example, let’s say your starting weight is 300 lbs and you lost 9 lbs. (9/300) x 100 = 3%

* For current statistics on the contestants\' weight loss progress, check out the Season 8 BL Wikipedia page.

* The weigh-in scale seen on TV is not real, it\'s a prop scale made for television. Contestants are weighed-in earlier in the day, but not told their weight.

* Contestants are paid a stipend while on campus.

* The length of stay at the Ranch varies from season to season, and so does the length of stay at home between the penultimate show and the finale.

* Contestants DO use the pool, as told by Matthew, former contestant.

* Don\'t think editing can make you believe something that isn\'t true, watch this.

* Follow The Biggest Loser Twitter and view Tweets from Alison Sweeney, trainers, former contestants, and get official show news.

* The Biggest Loser Resort at Fitness Ridge

* Pound For Pound Challenge.

* Jillian has been the winning trainer every year that she has been on TBL.

* Bob won one season when he competed with Kim Lyons.

* Check the 2nd post of a contestant\'s or trainer\'s thread for updates and web page links.

* Minimum age requirement is 18 due to California Child Labor Laws

* Currently, full episodes cannot be watched on NBC.com and Hulu until approximately 1 week after the initial airing of an episode. Fine Living Network (FLN) network does replay current episodes on weekends and previous seasons during the week. Check for more info here

* Why Canadians Can\'t Watch TV Shows on Hulu, etc. Thanks to Eny!

* Seasons two and three have been filmed at the Hummingbird Nest Ranch. The 123-acre ranch is an equestrian estate in Simi Valley, California. Recent seasons have been filmed at the Malibu Creek State Park. (wiki info)

We understand the frustrations that members feel about the new thread moderation, but we have had a flood of posters wanting to create threads on topics that clearly already exist.

Moderation keeps the forum neat, uncluttered and easier to navigate.

* We have sub-forums for Diet & Nutrition, Fitness (Exercise & Equipment), Health, as well as an Off-Topic area called The Spa. Any topic not pertaining directly to the show will be moved into the appropriate sub-forum. JANA22........

Feel free to ask any question! I directed you to the first post because it was quicker for me to refer you to that post rather than me looking it up repeating what was already posted. The first post is a collaboration of the most common asked questions with the answers. So glad you could find your answer, and welcome!

I have a question. During the last season, there was a post on TBL website for a trainer. Can anyone shed any light on this?
chazee
joanne_j

TBL posted a casting call for trainers last season......I have no idea if anyone was hired.

Question: How do we get the picture of Jillian from her dedicated thread last season resurrected??? wub.gif
vbarkley
Hmmmm, I just went to the Season 7 archive, and the photo has been removed. dry.gif I'll check around and see if I can find another one.

Edit: Was it this one?
chazee
Yea, V that is last year's pic

drool.gif Yep, that one.

Why aren't we seeing Helen and Jerry in any of the promos for this season? I was hoping to see how they are doing now. Any updates on how they are doing keeping their weight off?
chazee
hmmm GA_Cathy....I didn't notice that until you brought it up.....we have to do a little digging to see what we can find

Mine is about the website. In particular, the video page. Blue font on a black background is VERY difficult to read! Can someone contact the webmaster and tell them to change the font color so there is some decent contrast?

Thank you!
chazee
Terry_WI I will pass that on smile.gif

Thanks, chazee, to you and the webmaster. You both came through - the video page is so much easier to read now. smile.gif

I don't own a TV, but I LOVE the TBL and watched the entire last season online. Does anyone know if season 8 is going to be online? I read the FAQ's and it said shows are posted after they air in Hawaii. Obviously last week's show hasn't been posted, and the second episode is airing tonight. Do I need to find a new favorite show? sad01.gif

runinohio...can't tell you any more than the info listed here....sorry.

First of all, I think there is a bit of confusion here. Here is the FAQ post below:

It says nothing about Hawaii. It says the show can be watched online on a week-delay basis. That means, if the episode airs on Tuesday, it should be available the following Tuesday for online viewing. If you watched the show online last season, it was exactly the same.

Today is Monday. Tomorrow is Tuesday. Dry your tears and give it another 24 hours. smile.gif

Have they started filming Season 9 yet?
chazee
Well I did hear a rumor that the s8 contestants were already home awaiting the finale....haven't heard anything about S9.
niagaragrl
Quick question - I think it was discussed, but I can't remember...

Anyone remember/know approx how long from the "last episode" to the finale?

i.e., is it 8 weeks, 12 weeks, 4 months?

Or is it varied? I thought it was similar, but that just might be in my head lol.
vbarkley
^^^It varies from season to season. smile.gif

I have kind of a delicate question but I'm curious...

For the women who have been on campus for over 4 weeks, they are going to go through their hormonal cycle which, for many women, can cause weight fluctuation. Do the women get any sort of consideration for this when it comes time to weigh in and they are in that time of their cycle?

negative. Contests such as this are governed by very stringent rules about fairness. With no real way to determine exactly how much of a different hormones are causing, there is no way to give an allowance for the women.

I agree with the above post. Men can have hormonal fluctuations as well which can affect weight, so it would seem there could be no fair way to make these kinds of allowances.

Also, haven't there been women champions? I only started watching last season. If women are winning this competition, than it seems like it all evens out in the end.

I checked out the music link in post 1, but it didn't work. I'm looking for the name of the song that goes with the piano in the past two episodes of Season 8. Anytime there is a sad story, the piano comes in. It's a great tune, but I don't think the piano is actually the song, I think it's a piano version of a popular song. Anyone know the name of it?
chazee
DFey...the bad link has been corrected smile.gif and we have a music thread as well.

When will they post the 2nd episode of this season 8. I missed it on accident on Tues and have been waiting (impatiently) for them to put it on here.

Thanks

Why is it taking so long to get the past week's show posted? There was a show on 9/22 that isn't on the website for veiwing yet! It's already the 27th and I can't watch it. They need to get these shows posted by the next day. A bunch of my friends and I watch this show and we discuss it when we get together on Wednesday nights. I can't watch it on Tuesday nights because I am working. I need to be able to see it before we get together so I know what is going on.
vbarkley
As stated in the first post in this thread, NBC does not post The Biggest Loser for online viewing until approximately ONE WEEK following the initial airing. For alternative viewing, please check out this thread as well.

I still own a VCR and actually tape shows occasionally. wink.gif
niagaragrl
In the last episode, they showed Jillian holding up a black book that said biggest loser on it, and I think she said it was a calorie/diary book for marking your daily food etc.

This might sound corny... lol

but is there somewhere we could buy it too?

I looked on the NBC shopping site but didn't see it. (I see they removed the mugs and notebook from last year sad.gif

Was it a journal, or a book to look up nutritional content?

If this is the book you are talking about.........

Yes that is the same pic I have posted. You cannot see the pic in my post above? The book is priced at $7.95.

I won't bore you with details that I am sure you are aware of, like the online journals, but there is a similar book like this on Amazon that has pretty good reviews.

This is a good deal...for now anyway
niagaragrl
Yeah, I kept getting errors that it wouldn't load, but eventually I got it smile.gif

Thx.
chazee
I would imagine the book is sold at the US BL Club site as well....but right now the site seems to be down.......did you check there?
Murraco
is there anyone out there that recorded the first episode of season 8, i am trying to find it, i know i can watch it online, but i want it to watch in my VHS/DVD Player, thank you for any and all help with this

Is there a thread that talks about life on the ranch? I'm curious about some of the day to day stuff like: laundry, house cleaning, bathrooms (sharing, privacy, etc.), kitchen time - is everyone on their own for meals? How do they not get in eachother's way? Can they bring iPods, reading materials, etc.? How many people to a room?

Yes, I did but it was erroring - might have been my connections or something.

The one interesting thing that I have noted is that they might not be as secluded as the show tries to portray. They make a huge deal about phone calls and visits, but contestants have been shown using the bodybugg web site... which requires an internet connection... which means they may have access to email. Not an absolute certainty, it would not be that hard to limit internet usage to a few selected sites for the bodybugg, news, etc. But it also could have easily been something overlooked.
vbarkley
Also, Jillian said last season was the first time contestants were banned from leaving campus, because 2 of them kept leaving to get food.

Shay posted a photo on Facebook that shows her sharing a room with Abby.

I think there was a bonus video from maybe Season 5 that showed some of the women doing laundry - they were discussing strategy. I don't remember who it was, maybe Kelly, Brittney and Maggie?

Oh, I remember that, it was actually broadcast on the show, during the week that they were trying to conspire to get rid of Mark. I think that was the only instance were water loading was actually discussed on film and broadcast. Remember that whole talk about weighing themselves and making sure they lost next to nothing?

Yes... that nasty bit of poor sportsmanship forever soured me on all those involved.

I'm confused. Are television replays of the current episode available (FLN, MSNBC, etc)? I cannot find any. Thanks.
