Sorry if this has already been asked and answered elsewhere.

I keep hearing about this DVD compelation by Beach Body. I've been to the website and the results seem amazing. However, I think it might be too much for someone who hasn't been exercising for awhile (that would be me lol). Just curious if anyone here has used it, and how successful they were with it. Thanks!

I've used P90X - it's really not for beginners, so it would depend on the shape you're in.

Personally I found it on the boring side (but a lot of people like it) - its *definitely* very intense.

You might find you'll have better results (no matter what level you're at) with Chalean Extreme, also from beachbody. I have it - love it.... didn't keep up with it due to summer/housefull of everyone, but I'm going to restart shortly.

I was first introduced to Chalene Johnson with the Turbo Jam dvds - love love love them and got great results (lost 13" and 9 pounds in the first 10 days). I go back and forth with TJ whenever I can squeeze in the time to work out - they're the most fun.

But if you're looking for strength training, AND don't want to be bored to tears (you seriously need to add your own music to p90x if you do get it) - Chalene Johnson kinda puts her turbo jam music/twist and a few of the moves on her Chalean program.

btw - I felt nauseous VERY quickly on P90X and at the time, I HAD been working out regularly. After about 3 weeks of doing P90X, my hubby asked me what was I doing differently? So I asked him why?

He said because I seemed down, depressed/miserable all the time which he knew wasn't like me, he said he was used to me acting goofy when I did turbo jam, he knew I'd changed something.

Also - in the time I did P90x (almost a month - then went back to TJ) - I actually gained a few pounds, not lost, and didn't notice any real difference in inches lost.

If you haven't seen the infomercial for Chalean Extreme, you can go to youtube and watch it in 3 parts.

If I'm allowed I'll post the urls here, but if they are removed, simply go to youtube and type in Chalean Extreme infomercial. (I don't get anything for it, its not an affiliate link - just a happy customer).

Hope this helps smile.gif

I haven't tried P90X, but I totally love Crossfit. It's very intense and never boring, but it's not a DVD. Crossfit is intense, but it can be scaled to your fitness level, so you can get a good workout even if you haven't been working out for a while. I like having trainers who make sure I'm doing the movements with correct form and who can help me make the most of my workout.

I get bored with 13 weeks of P90X, but I like to use the program to mix and match P90X videos with other videos that work in similar ways. The things I really like:

I like the periodization in the plan: 3 weeks hard, 1 week called "Rest" that is less hard, 3 weeks hard with a change in two of the strength workouts, 1 week "Rest", 4 weeks hard, 1 week "Rest".

I like the spread of workouts through the hard weeks:
Day 1: Strength, Core Included
Day 2: Intense Cardio With Intervals and Plyometrics
Day 3: Strength, Core Included
Day 4: Yoga, Yoga Abs Included
Day 5: Strength, Core Included
Day 6: Cardio
Day 7: Long Stretch Session

I like the stretching included in every workout.

I like the upper body focus on pushups and pullups. When my selection of video workouts do not include them, I add them.

Ab Ripper X is the most effective core workout I have ever done, but keep in mind that I tend to avoid core work so maybe I've just been more consistent with Ab Ripper X. I will say that the work done includes the hip flexors in a way I really need and seldom get in other core workouts. It only tortures me for a quarter of an hour and the biggest chunk of torture happens with the first four moves: hip flexor and front quad work from Hades. I saw a post from someone right after he did Ab Ripper X the first time; his response was about the 3rd move and went something like, "When Tony told me I then had to do reverse bicycles, I asked him, right through the TV of course, if I should also spin my head around a couple of times and vomit up some green pea soup."

I really like several of the workouts but not Arms/Shoulders (or is it Shoulders/Arms) or Kenpo X. I have many other equivalent workout videos that are better than these.

Thanks for the replies smile.gif

Wow that was some nice results with the Tubo Jam. I think I'll give that a look. I have to lose about 15 pounds, and I too get bored pretty quickly with some of the DVD programs I've tried.

I do Tae Bo 5-6X a week. LOVE it! I've gone from 245 lbs to 205 and heading full strength to my goal of 190, which is what I weighed in HS back in 1986.

I have not used the product but I have a friend who has used it and said that he didn't see the results right away but if you stick with it by the second month he started to see some real results. There is also nothing but good ratings on the system according to Amazon.com

Recently finished my 90 days of P90X and loved it. It is a great fitness program, but definately not recommended for beginners. It's more about toning up rather than losing weight. So if losing body fat is your goal, then P90X may not be the best program to do. However, if you are in decent shape and want to get some more definition, than this is a great program to try.

Since finishing up my round of P90X I have started up the new program "Insanity" by Shaun T. I'm just over a week into it, and holy crap it is intense. Easily the toughest workout I've ever tried and the best part about it is... you don't need any equipment to do the program. If you want to see what your limits are, this is an awesome program to try.
