'HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL'S' ASHLEY TISDALE AND GRAMMY-NOMINATED ROCK GROUP DAUGHTRY TO PERFORM ON 'AMERICA'S GOT TALENT' LIVE RESULTS SHOW AUGUST 19
Published: August 17, 2009
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. – August 17, 2009 – NBC's "America's Got Talent," the number one show of the summer, will announce the next five acts to move into the Top 20 on its live results show, Wednesday, August 19 (9-10 p.m. ET). The show will also feature live performances from the rock group Daughtry and "High School Musical's" Ashley Tisdale. Daughtry will sing their No.1 hit single, "No Surprise," and Tisdale will be singing her new single, "It' Alright, It's Okay."
Chris Daughtry, from North Carolina, formed the band Daughtry with bassist Josh Paul from LA, drummer Joey Barnes also from North Carolina, guitarist Brian Craddock from Virginia, and guitarist Josh Steely from San Diego at the end of 2006. Daughtry, a19/RCA recording artist, currently tops the chart with its second album and has achieved global success with its self-titled debut. A hit in both artistic and commercial terms, the band's Grammy-nominated, quintuple-platinum debut accomplished the rare feat of charting three #1 hits. With release of "Leave This Town," Daughtry is back at #1. The band recorded the album's 12 songs in Los Angeles with returning producer Howard Benson (All-American Rejects, My Chemical Romance). The entire album features inspired performances by the quintet held together by anthemic hooks, impassioned vocals, and lyrics laced with wisdom found through searching horizons and rearviews. The songs shift smoothly from powerful arena-rock ("No Surprise," "Ghost of Me"), to hushed ballads ("September") and emotional mid-tempo rockers ("Life After You," "Learned My Lesson"). "Leave This Tow" also includes the country-influenced "Tennessee Line," that features vocal harmonies by country-music superstar Vince Gill. For more information, please visit www.daughtryofficial.com.
Ashley Tisdale has quickly become one of Hollywood's brightest talents on both the silver screen and on television. Best known for her role as Sharpay Evans, Tisdale starred opposite Zac Efron in the original movie musical, "High School Musical," directed and choreographed by Kenny Ortega. The film premiered in January 2006 and was the highest rated telecast in Disney Channel history. Tisdale made music history by becoming the first female artist to ever debut with two songs simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 chart ("Bop To The Top" and "What I've Been Looking For," both from the RIAA triple-platinum certified "High School Musical" soundtrack). Tisdale recently won a MTV Movie Award for Breakthrough Performance: Female for her performance in "High School Musical 3: Senior Year" and can currently be seen in the 20th Century Fox feature film Aliens in the Attic from producer Barry Josephson. Tisdale's sophomore album from Warner Brothers Records, "Guilty Pleasure," was released in July and her debut album "Headstrong" for Warner Bros. RecordsM, has sold over a million copies worldwide.
"America's Got Talent" is produced by FremantleMedia North America and Simon Cowell's SYCO Television. Cowell, Cecile Frot-Coutaz ("American Idol"), Jason Raff ("Momma's Boys") and Scott St. John ("Deal or No Deal") serve as executive producers.

I'm actually upset Jeffrey went through.
Sure it sucked what happened to him, but ***IT WAS HIS OWN ACT'S FAULT*** his dancers kicked off the mics. It wasn't NBC's fault, it was their mistake.
The reason i'm upset is because, even though i thought he was good and had potential, i had him in maybe 7th or 8th place. But because people felt bad for him, 1 act who didn't deserve to go home tonight will go home. I don't think he was top 5 material.
oh well.

It was America's decision though, and they voted him through, you can't fault him for that, it was a toss up and the consequence of them all performing live. People were told to vote based on the first half of his performance, not the technical difficulty.

Jeff Oh truly deserved to move on to the next round. I was really shocked and disheartened by Sharon Osborne's reaction to Jeff being chosen over Bri. I consider Sharon Osborne to be one of the more understanding and compassionate judges of the three, yet she was very disrespectful to Jeff and his talents. Jeff was not competing against Bri, but rather Bri got fewer votes overall. I think Jeff and his fans deserve an apology.

Hey Hoff,
my mother and I are sitting and watching the live results show as i am typing this. I am very disappointed in Sharron's reaction to Bre being eliminated.
She was very rude to Jeffrey Ou who beat her out for the spot, and we were SHOCKED!! I would like to know what in the world she was thinking, and why she would think that it is acceptable - at any point, no matter how she felt about the situation - to be so cruel.
Jeffrey Ou has just as much talent as Bre. I would like for her to think about how she much of an impact that she has on how Jeffrey will feel now, and what that will do to his confidence in his talent.
thanks,

The producers acutally pick out the stuff for a lot of the acts. Whether it be add dancers, extras, the song choice. As noted by the hoff last season when that girl sang Bleeding Love. He made a comment about having been given a tough song to sing.

Here's my problem. I feel too many people here are saying:
"Oh My God, that's so unfair what happened to him! Let me vote for him Because I feel bad!"
Whereas, in all honnesty. Jeffrey should probably be thinking right now "Thank God that happened last night. There's no way I'd be top 5 if not for all the pity votes"
He's good, but wasn't top 5 last night. I'm disappoitned Marcus and the Serenades were voted away, yet Jeffrey is still here.

I pretty much agree with that, but most viewers don't vote with the "Vegas act" mentality in mind. They simply vote for who they like more.
I don't think Mario & Jenny have enough appeal to AGT's core voting audience to actually win this thing. I always assumed that the mass majority voters are in the over-35 and female with children crowd. Not exactly the types to choose scary, circus type acts.

By the way Sharon, in a competition the best act should win because they're the best, not because the other act is young so they have more opportunities left in the future. Such crap!

Wow...interesting choices by America but I like it! I was glad to see Jeffrey go through over Bri who I thought was very overrated by the judges. She has talent and will probably have a career but she just didn't sing very well last night, IMHO. The non-thriller of the night was Lawrence in the group with David and Jay. Did anyone really think Lawrence wasn't going through? I was also surprised that Marcus didn't do better in the voting, but very pleased that Mario and Jenny went through. Hairo was also a surprise, but I really like him as well.
The judges had a tough call to make, but they made the right call regardless of their reasoning. I agree, youth shouldn't be the deciding factor. Honestly, I thought FootworKingz were just a slight bit (a very slight bit, mind you) better than the very talented Pixies.
Again, I wish a couple of these acts had been on last week's show.

Then why let them compete at all? I'm so sick of this with this show. They have had so many extremely talented kids this year, and yet, they keep cutting them in favor of older, less dynamic and talented acts. If you're not going to keep them because they're young, then don't let them compete. They may think they're doing them a favor now, but really they're giving them a complex and a horrible explanation that doesn't make any sense!

Regarding paring of acts (or groups or whatever one wishes to call them) . . .
I do not know for sure, but the following must be the way it works.
The top 4 vote getters go to the next round, thus, the top 4 vote getters cannot be parried together when the show is teasing the audience as to who made it.
The only two groups that MUST be paired together to “be selected” are the 5th and 6th vote getters and the judges get to make that decision.
For example, if the top 4 vote getters are
(1) Lawrence Beamen
(2) Hairo Torres
(3) Mario & Jenny and
(4) Jeffrey Ou
These acts cannot be paired together during the show where the results are given. Thus, the producers of the show select the losing acts to “pair” with the winning acts to add drama.
Thus, Lawrence, for example, may be paired with the 7’th and 8th vote getters. The only drama is trying to figure out who America voted for. In this case, there was little drama as Lawrence was sure to win.
Thus Jeffrey was not competing against Bri during the results show. Bri simply did not get enough votes and the producers just happened to pair Bri with a winning act which happened to be Jeffery. Bri could have been paired with Lawrence, and if so, would Sharon still give Jeffery grief?
I can not see the show as I am out of town at the moment but if Sharon Osborne gave Jeffrey Ou any crap for making it to the next round, Sharon was way out of line and should be removed as a judge. Such behavior should not be tolerated.
America is entitled to their opinion and America voted Jeffrey in and Bri out. IF Sharon Osborne has a problem with such results, her beef is with America, not one of the acts.
Again, if Sharon Osborn gave any winner grief, including Jeffrey,
Sharon should be removed as a judge. It is not Sharon jobs to gave Jeffrey (or any act) grief for America voters choices Jeffrey has a chance of a life changing event andto win a million dollars. Such behaivor from a judge is simply unacceptable and something an apology will not correct. I have not seen the event, but if things are as bad as have been implied, Sharron has got to go.
