I think he is referring to some movies where the janitor -out of nowhere -gives the best advice to the troubled teen. The wisest person in the movie.

Remember last season when they had no weight room for a week and the teams who won the gym prettied it up and hardly lost any weight while the outside teams lost alot of weight doing alternative exercises. To think that the players can do it so early in the season by themselves is silly. I can't believe that they would all have voted that way (to be trainerless).
This was an inspiring episode though.

I don't want to hear or see anything negative about these people yet. I want the "hearts and flowers" feeling to last at least a few episodes.

And for my money Shay isn't anything like the nameless one so far. I can see maybe comparing her to Season 5's Maggie, but definitely not Witchie Poo. She may be a kvetcher, but evil and conniving? Come on!

Hearts & flowers? Really. Its the inability to socialize in groups, despite our kindergarten training & parents best efforts, that makes this show so fun. Shay is alright, it is Tracey I'm waiting to see bagged. All her crying and her intelligence shining so bright after her comment "(crying) Who looses 10 pounds in a week?) Well Tracey let me remind you are at Fat Camp, the advanced class, and they all loose 10 pounds in week. And yes, love Coach Mo & Dan!

Remember that Tracy wasn't on the ranch for the first week - she was a fan of the show, but obviously her 10 pound loss shocked even her. I was glad for her, myself after what she'd gone through.
I loved this episode - even my daughter decided she really liked the show - and she was iffy to watch it after last week LOL, but was willing to give it one more shot. I think she's hooked now

I didn't record this week's episode, but boy I wish I did. It was really overall good.

Who here has ever been in the hospital on an IV? I have, and almost everyone who I have talked to who has been in the hospital on an IV loses weight. They give you enough calories in the IV for a normal healthy diet, which is dramatically less than the calorie intake that the other contestants were on. Low on sodium, so Tracy probably shed some water weight too. Not trying to detract from her accomplishment, just trying to point out the reasons why she may have still lost weight.

Ali said something about them getting a choice of going with out trainers in order to have complete control of the weigh in (what ever that means). My impression from the previews was that it was not the whole team that went with out trainers, but jest a few. Although it was really unclear.

First of all, I told myself that I was not going to read the message boards this season because one of the contestants is someone I've known since childhood and quite frankly, some people on here can be really mean. But I couldn't help myself. Yes, Danny from the brown team is a sensitive man, but he is an devoted husband, father and son. When my husband is away oversees - even for a short time and I can't just pick up the phone and call him and tell him about my fabulous day, or horrible day, it makes the distance hard. So, before you start judging someone's emotions about their family, look at the situation from a different perspective.
Second, I love how Daniel is so encouraging and being such a leader. I loved how he was more excited about Shay's progress than his own. What a great kid/young man.
I was also impressed by Rudy (I think that was who it was) who took the limelight off his double digit number and said "look at this girl and what she did" (or something like that).
This season's contestants really seem to be focused on each other's success and I don't know that any true game playing has started. So far, I do have a few favorites (not just my friend) but there isn't anyone I don't like yet.

Oh and I forgot to add...remember that Julio mentioned that he is an independent person and maybe he is working out when the gym is empty. I'm not a group exerciser and prefer to be on my own or with just a few people. So maybe they aren't showing how much he is working out.

I really enjoyed the show last night although the product plug for the ziplock bags was really really bad! Who would use huge gallon sized bags for single portions of food items. They were trying to highlight their standup qualities.. (literally).. I could have seen them using other food items to demonstrate their helpfulness better. Those bags as carted off to the fridge would take up alot of room and also had alot of air in them sure to dry out the food. I think it was just a poor example for a good product... I love zip lock bags for leftovers, cleaned ready to go romaine, for marinading and or freezing. You can't heat and serve in those bags.. the food items they made would have been better wrapped in plastic wrap than in a large air filled ziplock bag.
My eyes were rolling at that product plug.

Hi, Everyone
I truly enjoyed the show last night. Was not as much offensive language as last week. Hope the producers got the messages.
That said, I loved how they all cooperated and made & surpassed their original goal of 150#'s.
Their phone calls home were touching, but hadn't they only been gone two weeks? Some of the contestants made it seem like two years!
We probably need to be a little more understanding of Shay. She must have had a very rough childhood with an addicted mother and being homeless also. We'll just have to see how all this plays out.
Till next week.

I have to say that last night's episode was one of the best in many a season. I like the blend of nutritional information, character information, challenges, training, and the parts with just the trainers. It was a balance that seems to have been missing in the past couple of sessions.
I really like that everyone worked as a team, and especially liked that no one had to go home. I think they need more challenges like that where GREAT weight loss results are the fall out instead of the normal backstabbing and scheming to send someone home.
I like too many of the contestants to pick an overall favorite. But no matter what I hope they all continue to do well!!

After all of the complaints that stemmed from last week's show, it was good to see an overall change in atmosphere this week. I had a feeling that the trainers would start to lighten up a little after initially breaking the contestants down, and it appears that has started to happen. I think we'll start to see a lot more positive reinforcement, and we'll also start to see the contestants feel a lot better about themselves.
Now, hopefully, those that were up in arms last week can relax and enjoy the show once again.

A more accurate way to put it is that the body will scale back on certain unconscious metabolic processes when it starts receiving less calories than it would otherwise need. Slightly lower body temperature, less muscle building, slower heart rate, etc.
Sorry, but I hate the use of terms like "starvation mode" or "hold onto weight" because they can mislead and many people do believe that if you eat next to nothing and work out all day that your body can some how violate the laws of physics and use energy with out using energy. If you eat nothing, work out all day, and remain alive, you will lose weight no matter what. However, the weight you lose (muscle mass goes fast under these conditions) might not be the weight you want to lose (fat).

I agree, horrible use of product placement, and I can't believe Ziploc signed off on this. Did I hear Jillian say it takes them 90 min to prepare a meal? I thought that was unreal, then I realized these contestants aren't use to preparing real food. I always get a chuckle out of watching them prep food, they hold a knife as if it is so foreign to them. Remember Vicky? I would like to see more of the food education, pairing of certrain foods, how often they eat, and what they eat. Surely they aren't living on Subway. And why are they eating those baked chips (as good as they are), don't you think the processed food should be eliminated. I bet Jillian hurls every time they eat those chips!

Thank you to your comments on this board I kind of gather what happened and I am waiting for NBC to put the episode online to see if I can watch it then.

Loved last night's episode!!!!! It was wonderful that they worked together as a team so that no one went home. So far this is reminding me of last season when everyone had each other's back (at least in the beginning). It's actually quite refreshing to see men admit how much they love and miss their families. I don't want to see anyone go home, but I know it's inevitable.. I'm still loving Daniel 'cause he's coming out of his shell and seems happy for all the weight loss.

Her name is Shay, and she is really starting to irritate me too, I hope she gets kicked soon. First Episode she quits says she is done. Walks out on her workout. REGARDLESS if she came back or not after that demonstration she has no room to talk about Julio or anyone else and how they handle their work outs. Yes its hard. Julio felt he was responsible for someone leaving and it had to be hard it was the first elimination and to feel the division of the house on it, definitely would change anyones perspective. If it happened to Shay she would have thrown in the towel again and go home. So before she continues to casts stones at anyone else she needs to look at herself. She has no room to talk about anyone proving themselves she needs to quit running her mouth and worry about herself first
