Full Version: What do americans really know about Finland?
NBC > NBC Extras > NBC Vault > Late Night Vault > Late Night with Conan O'Brien
FinnishPolarBear
I was really surprised when I heard that Conan even knew something about Finland. For example, about our great health care system. It's not that great, by the way. Maybe if you compare it to Americas. Since that magical night when Conan apologized us I've been wondering what an average american knows about Finland. Maybe you could enlighten me...

They don't seem to know much...or just can't be bothered to answer? One american girl wrote earlier that they don't teach much about Finland in schools so my guess is that an average american don't know heck about Finland.

Ja muuteski, luulen et Conanilla oli kyll? hyv?t tutkijat siell? ottamassa selv?? Suomesta, ett? saivat sen "anteeksipyynn?n" tehty?. Taustaty? kunniaan!

This is what i know about Finland

1) Don't have any long range bomber, this means no chance of sneek attack
2) Have a very stange alphabet which is far too fancy because they use the letter K way to much and put dots where they don't belong
3) Get more sun than the USA in the summer time (booooo)
4) Get less sun than the USA in the winter (Yay)
5) Much like some Asian nations may eat haven eaten tigers into extinction...no Tigers in Finland.
6) Eat seals and ride icebergs to work
7) Have no T.V shows of there own to complain about so have to cry about ones they have bought from other nations
8) Live in iglos...? Maybe
9) Most of them work for Santa in his toy factory because they are so close to the north pole

I also know that they have pet seals instead of dogs, have been waging a secret war with the dutch for over 900 years and was discovered by Captain Cook but thought that Finland was part of Scotland and kept on sailing.

Please, let's stop giving our country a bad name by flooding this board with threads about Finland. I think Americans know all they need to know about Finland. Sure, it would be cool if they were interested in us but that's not likely to happen. How much do we know about Burkina Faso? Or Kiribati? I don't know [censored] about those countries nor do I care to know, and I believe that's how most Americans feel about us.

Oh, and let's stick to using only English here, writing in Finnish isn't going to impress anyone, ok.

Well if you think about it, what does an average finn know about e.g.Poland? Nothing much realy. And realy who cares to learn about stupid foreign cultures? What good is there for me? I?m going to just sit here in my cottage for the rest of my life and shoot everything that looks strange.

Why didn't you post that last bit in english too?

After that episode thet featured finland, some of americans may know many more things about finland.
..And all that is being wiped out when some of you jackasses keep posting stupid [censored] on this very board.

Sadly, that's a fair statement for most Americans. However, you'll be relieved to know that most Americans don't know jack about America either!

Actually, we would know more about Finland but we dont care enough about it. In fact, we know that when somebody says, "Oh, i wanna go to Europe!", they actually mean any other Western European country outside Scandinavia. I wonder why...maybe its the synonymous nature of sidewalk and "mens public restroom"... :-D Jk

Do you think that it?s somehow important that americans knew something about Finland? Should they know? And why?

Finland is a country somewhere North-Eest Europe. We eat normal food. Finland's winter is November, Decenber, January, February and March. Whole land has only 5million people. Nokia is from Finland. Almoust all have own mobile phone. http://www.mtv3.fi/saa2004/fetusivu.shtml?...=FI&dd=data2vrk
Here is lots of forests. Santa lives here. (If you are bad, he won't give to you any present) We love beer and to get drunk. Some like pick a quarrel. Here is now 3:26 o'clock.

I don't know much, but now because of this message board i'm so sick of Finland, I wouldn't even try to learn about it.

I dont know anything about Finland, why? Because in my curriculum it's not something that is taught, we are taught about the FLQ and Canadian Politics(I'm Canadian by the way) and about Louis Riel. I'm sure if a teacher decided to teach me about Finland I would be happy to learn.
