This is my all time favorite show. I never watch it on TV, I wait for the DVD box sets, then I go through and watch all seasons before watching the newest one. I love Taylor Kitsch and Zach Gilford, they are my favorites. It's amazing to find a show where you love every character, and I absolutely do. Express your love for Friday Night Lights here!

If you have Direct TV you will be able to start watching October 28th otherwise wait like the rest of us till SUMMER 2010. I hate having to wait so freakin' long!
I miss the show so much! Gotta know about Coach and Tami starting at the new school. What's gonna happen to Tim? What about J.D. McCoy and his family? I loved the story there! And Tyra, and Landry??? And of course Zach Gilford...The show just won't be the same without Matt and Julie!!!

Hi.. just wanted to add my admiration for the show. I live in Australia, so needless to say, I know nothing whatsoever about American Football. The box set for season one was recently added at my local video store, so I rented it. Half way through watching it, I purchased seasons 1, 2 and 3. I must admit I was surprised. My knowledge of American Football, sadly, has only increased somewhat slightly, however, I find the drama and stories intensely hypnotic. The acting is superb, equalled only by the writing. Unfortunately I will have to wait until season 4 is also on box set, so my only consolation is that it has been renewed for two more seasons. So in summary; thank you.

My husband and I agree...an absolute "Wow!" for the season 3 opener. A knock-your-socks-off epi.
Bravo! Looking forward to a great season.

I just started watching Friday Night Lights and I thought I'd weigh in. I bought the first season on dvd. This is an interesting show, and compelling in some ways, but it's a very difficult show to watch.
First off, the aura of all these high school kids suggests a college atmosphere. I teach college freshman and none of them are as old-looking as these characters. None of them speak like these characters. And from what I gather, they simply don't manage their personal lives like these characters. But I suppose you can write that off as artistic license for a network show.
The thing that makes this a difficult show for me is that almost every character in the show is utterly morally repulsive. They frequently talk about making "a" mistake. "I made a mistake, I'm sorry." "Haven't you ever made a mistake?" These characters don't do anything BUT make mistakes. Every family but the coach's is broken. Everyone indulges in what they want and the show is one long examination of the fallout of those "mistakes." I just constantly root for one of these characters to show some moral awareness. There is a shot in one episode of Lyla praying before an altar, and yet she has no qualms about pre-marital sex. Many of the characters profess religious devotion, but are moral failures in their personal lives and in their interpersonal relationships. It's a document of recklessness and teenage stupidity. This is nowhere near the kind of high school experience I had. I know I personally had a moral sense when I was in high school and the people I knew did as well--an awareness that some actions will be regretted. No one in this show has that awareness, or at least, it never factors into the decisions they make. They have no personal strength to restrain themselves.
Anyway, like I said the show is compelling. I'm not criticizing the show, I'm criticizing the characters. And I suppose in some way, I question the writers' motivations in making the ethical vacuousness of the environment so extreme. I watch it because it's dramatic and well made, and very well shot. The drama is just a tough pill to swallow.
Just my two cents.
