Okay I have been a faithful viewer of the show but have gotten confused and am hoping someone can set me straight on two issues:
1. Peter's ability - in the beginning he could obtain ability by being emotionally connected to someone but then (and I can not remember how) he begin to be able to acquire multiple abilities. Then his Father hugged him and took all his abilities away, then he got shot up with the drug that gave him super strength (I think) and now he is back to acquiring one ability at a time. I may have gotten this timeline of abilities messed up, as I said I am confused - can anyone help? Also, at the end of last season he shook Sylar's hand and acquired all his abilities which of course are many, why does he not still have all those?
2. Sylar - I know he has killed many people and has acquired many abilities. Why does it seem that he only uses like 3 of the many abilities he has or does he not have them anymore and if not, why? I remember he killed the lady with super hearing, the lady who could tell if someone was lying, the man that could touch things and turn them to gold, and I am sure there are others that just are not coming to me right now.
Thanks for setting me straight.

I think someone has already beaten me in response, but..
1) Peter did NOT gain all of Sylar's abilities when he touched him. He chose to pick Sylar's shape-shifting ability, and that's the only one he got, because he is only limited to 1 power at a time now.
2) Sylar does not have powers he had before being infected with the Shanti virus. All his season 1 powers, sans telekinesis, are gone. He had to start fresh in Season 3. But he has gained a few powers we have never seen him use, like Jesse's sonic scream.

I'll just add that he doesn't have super-hearing anymore (that was season 1), but he does still have the lie detector and gold power (season 3).

Just to clarify, the formula gave Peter what some call "Ability Replication", which is his base ability now. Immediately after injecting himself, Peter touched Nathan and acquired his flight. Peter took super strength later on from Mohinder. He can currently hold one ability at a time.

Actually Peter never touched Nathan when he first injected himself. He injected himself and flew towards Nathan who was on the other side of the room. I never did understand that.

He most definitely did not fly until he touched Nathan.

Also remember, Mohinder isn't just super strong - he's super agile too. Its the cleaned up version of the bug-power.

Peter injected himself, ran across the room, touched Nathan, then flew.

That was something that didn't make much sense to me. If the shanti virus was strong enough or destructive enough to "take away his powers" then that mean the process that makes the ability tick was damaged.... Sylar injected himself with Mos cure for the virus...but if the virus had already damaged his body then how did the shanti cure "re establish or re ignite his adrenals or wherever the heart of the ability is". I mean Mo's fix only stopped the virus from killing him, it was NOT designed to restart ANY ability.
The only way it made sense, was if the shanti virus blocked them from working, then the Mo's shanti shot would cure him from dying and thus unlock the ability. Anyway, I'm just saying...

I never understood that myself. When Sylar gave himself that shot in the alley, he was able to move things again. My thinking, he shouldn't have been.

wasn't it mixed with claires blood, it probably healed the ability.
sylar lost his acquired abilities but kept IA and telekinesis through his emotional bonds.
